I have a Jacob Clevenger who married 1. Catherine Tomlin on August 26, 1795
in Frederick County, VA and md. January 4, 1806, in Frederick County, Elizabeth
Krouse. Children of Elizabeth and Jacob Clevenger were John William
Clevenger, Mary Elizabeth, Virginia, Helen, and Maria. I didn't do this research
myself, it was taken from information on the
Lane family. Jacob is supposedly the son of Asa Cleavenger.
Information from the Lane Genealogy Data:
Children of Jacob's first marriage:
Clevenger, Asa Birth : ABT 1796 Frederick Co., Virginia, USA
Clevenger, Martin B. Birth : ABT 1798 Frederick Co., Virginia, USA
Clevenger, Peter Birth : ABT 1798 Frederick Co., Virginia, USA
Clevenger, Enos Birth : OCT 1800 Frederick Co., Virginia, USA
Clevenger, Alice "Cintha" Birth : ABT 1802 Frederick Co., Virginia, USA
Death : BEF 1870
Clevenger, Frank Birth : ABT 1800/08 Frederick Co., Virginia, USA
Children of Jacob's second marriage:
Clevenger, John William Birth : ABT 1816 Frederick Co., Virginia, USA
Clevenger, Mary Elizabeth Birth : ABT 1818 Frederick Co., Virginia, USA
Clevenger, Virginia Birth : ABT 1820 Frederick Co., Virginia, USA
Clevenger, Helen Birth : ABT 1821 Frederick Co., Virginia, USA
Clevenger, Maria Birth : ABT 1822 Frederick Co., Virginia, USA

"All I have to give you is my good name. Pass it on."
I am searching for information on a Jacob Clevenger (b ca 1774 in Va) who married an Elizabeth Krouse b ca 1786. They lived in Frederick County, VA. Was Elizabeth Krouse, Jacob's second wife? If so, had she been married before? Who were their parents? If Jacob and Elizabeth had children, what were their names?
I found an Elizabeth Clevenger, age 70, as Head of the Household in the Frederick Co. VA 1860 census (Stephensburg P.O. area). Was this Jacob's widow?
Also listed just a couple households down from Elizabeth age 70 (mentioned above) was another Elizabeth Clevenger, age 46 (b ca 1814), listed as Head of Household. She had two children living with her: John W., age 19, and Ann V, age 17. Also a Daniel W. Smith, age 38, and a Moses Riely age 53 were living in the household. Was this Elizabeth, a widowed daughter in law of the Elizabeth Clevenger, age 70 who lived nearby? If so, which Clevenger son had the younger Elizabeth been married to and what was her maiden name before she married?
Living in between the two Elizabeth's was the Robert and Jane (Crouse / Krouse) Beatty family. Is their any connection between these 3 families? ? ?
If anyone can help me sort out this puzzle, I would surely appreciate it.
Thanks so much,
Sharon Wilcox

The Clevengers are French Huguenots, but Annanias's mother was a
Hightower . As I remember there is a documented Cherokee in the
Hightower line.

I have a picture of my great-great grandfather Annanias Clevenger born
1833-Cocke Co. TN and died 1903-Ray Co. MO. In looking at his picture
there is definately Indian features when looking at his face. My great
grandfather, my grandmother and mother all have a long hooked nose like
Annanias and also high cheek bones. Does any one know if there is Indian
ancestry in the Clevenger family?
Linda
