There is a valid reason for not releasing cause of death to just anyone.
If the cause of death was genetic, then an insurance company knowing
this might deny health insurance to a descendant or a sibling.

The Indiana General Assembly is once again considering a bill that would
restrict access to birth and death records. This issue was last raised in
the spring 2003 session of the state legislature, and at the time was
defeated by a vote of 50-43, with 7 abstentions. This year's bill is House
Bill 1551 (HB 1551), and if passed it would go into effect on July 1st.
Sponsored by Representatives Peggy Welch, David Wolkins and Gregory Porter,
the bill closes access to death records less than 50 years old, and birth
records less than 75 years old. When vital records are issued, the bill
limits access to: the person listed on the record; the mother or father of
the person listed; the grandparent of the person listed, the spouse, sibling
or offspring of the person listed, or "a person conducting a genealogical
study in compliance with rules adopted by the state department".
What is troubling is that rules created by the State Department of
Health would not
be subject to legislative measures. Also troubling is another provision of
the bill, which says that the cause of death shall not be listed on a death
record given out unless the person requesting the record "proves a
documented need for the death certificate."
The Indiana Genealogical Society urges Indiana residents to contact
their legislator and voice their opposition to this bill. Contact

updates.

Nice to hear from you too. I would love to help you, but as of late, my computer with all 51,000 FTM entries crashed! I am sick about it. Even though I have been backing up the data periodically, the computer had a virus in it, and files became so corrupted that they compounded and ruined my FTM data, as well as the computer. It will take months to try and recover any data in it, if I can at all. I got a new computer, but will not risk trying to insert any of the old disks for fear of transferring any residual errors into it. When this is all resolved, let's talk family, as it's difficult without all the big files.
I do not have any Wills or Marriage documents for them, but we travel when we are able and I am always picking up books from genealogy societies or records where possible.
I am descended from Hannah's older brother, Joshua who married Mary or Mary Matilda/Mathilda MEAD/MEADE. Most of the data about the sibling's names were passed down from family lore, plus what the other cousins have shared.
Regards, Cousin Mary

I'm descended from William Cline and Hannah Clevenger through their daughter Sarah Cline who married Riley Sansom in 1852 in Logan Co West Virginia.
Sarah lived to 92 and died in Washington State in the 1920's. I have her death certificate.
Could you please share your resources for any documentation that identifies Hannah as the daugher of Levi Clevenger and Nancy Elswick? Also their other children.
I do know that Nancy Elswick Clevenger later lived with or married Michael Cline (uncle? of William). I have found a record of Levi Clevenger serving in the War of 1812 from Frederick Co Virginia. This would coincide with the time frame when Nancy and Michael Cline got together. Must do more research to see if he died in the war or just didn't come back home.
I have Levi as the son of George Clevenger as they are shown together in the early 1800 Virginia Census from this general area. It appears that the Clevenger family also had it's roots in Frederick Co VA.
Most sources say that William and Hannah Clevenger both died in West Virginia in the 1860's after the Civil War. That is about the time that Sarah and Riley Sansom moved to Minnesota. The Cline books state that Sarah had approx. $14,000 sewn in her clothes that was her inheritance from her father and mother. Would like to have copies of any wills for either William or Hannah. Do you know of any? Also where they might be buried.
Look forward to hearing from you.
