This is in reply to an old post but I may have found a connection. If this helps anyone, then I would liek to hear from you.
In the 1880 census, looking for my g.grandfather James and gg.gf., Joseph Clevenger, I found a James Rimer or Riner (hard to read) age 9; living with him. The location is Le Roy, McLean, Illinois.
The census says James Rimer was born in Indiana. His mother was also born in Indiana and his father's birthplace is listed as "unknown".
Also counted in this census: Emily, 41, wife; Elizabeth Gulley, 78, mother-in-law; Annie Clevenger, 20, sister.
I expected to find a son James Douglas Clevenger, born 28 Apr 1872, in Lawrence Indiana but he was not counted for some reason.
If anyone can help me connect these people to the Rimer family, find James's ancestors or connect to other Clevenger's I will be really happy.
About all I know about my Clevenger lineage is: Joseph W, b.Ohio, 1844; James D., b.1872; Henry Hal, b.1902; Hal E. b.1923 >John (me). Branches I have found so far are: Yount, Brown, Land and Gulley.
Thanks, John Clevenger
