I believe that his father's name was Sanford, because Sylvester had a son by the name of Sanford Ashberry Clevenger.

Several lineages on Ancestry.com for Benjamin Henry Clevenger list the wrong parents, viz., Joseph Clevenger born 15 Sept. 1750, died 1783, and Mary Smith. They are documented in Hinshaw's Quaker records. The significant point is that they had a daughter, Edith, born 14 July 1777. Therefore, Benjamin Henry Clevenger, who was born 27 Sept. 1777, could not be their son. It has been claimed that his father was an undocumented Joseph Henry Clevenger or a William Clevenger.
