My maternal great-grandfather was James Calvin Clevenger, born February 22, 1882 in Ritchie County, WV. He was the son of Ashabul and Rebecca Riddle Clevenger. James Calvin (whom we refer to as Grandpa Cal), had brothers and sisters (and I am not 100% sure of the spellings on these, I received this information from an aunt who has passed away and I can't confirm.), Canzada, Irena, Merch, Lawson, John, Dona, Coleman and Lacey. The only one of these that I have any information on is Merch and it's only limited information.
Grandpa Cal married Vallie Virginia Cunningham, (daughter of Alfred and Adeline Bush Cunningham, born June 17, 1878 at Goff, WV), October 10, 1909 at Cather School, Gilmer County, WV. They were the parents of my grandmother, Coca Adeline Clevenger Gregg, James Clyde Clevenger, Ercie Hale Clevenger, Alma Fay Clevenger, Russell Lee Clevenger, Wilma Olene Clevenger Law and Warren Harding Clevenger, all of whom have passed away.
Grandpa Cal was married to Alice Hart, before he was married to Grandma Vallie and had a son, Orville Merle Clevenger. I'm not sure if Alice died or they divorced, but I know that Grandma Vallie died October 16, 1934 and he married Elvie Collins, May 9, 1935. Grandpa Cal died April 3, 1956 in Parkersburg, WV.
If anyone has any information on this line of the Clevenger ancestry, specifically about Ashabul Clevenger and his ancestry, I would really appreciate it!!! ANY information would be great!
Thanks,
Julz

I have heard of that legend. Did you know that Pasadena is also known as "Wheatland?" It is still there. I went there last week. The remains of an old Terra Cotta Factory can still be seen. I can't find any remains of any of the old houses there, however there are some bungalows occupied. I also can't seem to find a graveyard. This town is way off the beaten path in the middle of nowhere. If you know where she is buried, then I might be able to help you further. You can see the remains of the terra Cotta factory on www.pineypower.com. Hope I helped you out a little.

i am a decendent of jefferson brightwell. i am researching the brightwell line of my harmon family tree...can we swap notes?
In 1880 Sarah was listed as Sallie Marsh age 17, born MO with father
born MO and mother born KY.. The oldest child, James was 3 and born in
TX. The family was in Denton Co, TX. The only Sarah that I found in
the MO 1870 censu was the daughter of Elias Clevenger and she was
listed at home in the 1880 census. Also her middle name was Jane not
Elizabeth. .
In the 1860 census the only Clevenger born in Mo with a wife born in
KY was Elias Clevenger, 42 in Atchison Co, MO, His wife was Elizabeth,
28 and with them were 2 Linn children ages 8 and 6, both born in
IL.The older children were Hannah, 14. MO, Joeph, 12 MO, and Eli 10,
MO.
In 1850 Thomas, 5 MO, Joseph 2 MO, and Eli 1, MO were at the home of
William Hillsaps 57 TN in Ray Co, MO and Elias 32 MO and Jane 7 MO
were at Benjamin Kendall's 35 VA in Ray Co. Elias was the son of Jesse
and Jane Morrison. More about these families may be found in the Ray
Co, MO Clevenger book. Apparently, many of these family members left
Ray Co and nothing seems to be known about them.
An in depth review of the Atichison Co records, may turn up
information that might indicate that Sarah Elizabeth was related to
this family.

Hi
There is only one Sarah CLEVENGER on the 1880 census, who was born in MO.
The census I have is the extract from the FHS, so the middle initial is
probably a copy mistake. There are no Sarah and David Marsh families
that I could find, with the proper birth year for her. This one looks
like the only, but there are ones that got missed.
Jack
The Census shows the following. The first line is where the Census
reader found the family The second line is the source info Third line
is column headings. Move 'Relation' to the right until it is over 'Self'
Each person has two lines. The first is: Name/ Relation to head of
house/ Sex/ Marital Status/ Race/ Age/ Birth Place The second line is:
Occupation /Birthplace of father / Birthplace of Mother

Hi A J,
We need more information to help you with your research.
What were the given names of your Clevenger ancestors; what years did they live in Indiana; where did they migrate from into Indiana?
Anything bit of info you can add to your query will be of help.
Thank you,
Ramona
