William Walter Clevenger.

Go to this site and you can order a copy of the book. It was reprinted by
Sarah Clevenger, I received a copy a few month ago, and it's worth the
money.

Dear Jan:
I can sympathize with you about the lack of a copy of the book, Clevenger,
Pioneers
& Descendants. I couldn't find a copy to buy. I contacted the author
George R. Griffiths
and was told that he knew of no copies available. It was out of print.
That was in 1970.
I did find a copy in the Sutro Library in San Francisco. I checked it out
and copied the
whole book. I had permission to do so. His address is Geroge R. Griffiths,
5804 South Country Club Way, Tempe, Arizona 85283. I hope he is still
living.
The Sutro California State Library is at 480 Winston Drive, San Francisco,
CA 94132 -
1719. Their phone number is 510 731 4477. The library is a part of the
California State University at San Francisco. It is the finest genealogical
library I have visited.
You might arrange a loan of the book.
Another alternative might be a genealogical library in your local area. The
Church of
the Latter Day Saints have many such libraries. I hope you can find it. It
is about the
best. Griffiths mother was a Clevenger. He was a certified genealogist.
Sincerely, Tom Betzer

I have not verified the source of the following information; however, I have
in my data base submitted info that reflects O.B. Clevenger as being
Ora Bryon b.07-June-1867 Marion, MO the son of Nelson Thomas b.26-Jul-1841
Greene, PA and Sarah Lucinda Long. They were married 25-Dec-1865 in Greene,
PA (do not know if that is a town or county, but surely Sarah Clevenger will
shed some light for us.)
This is seemingly the Burlington NJ line that settled in Missouri?
Cheryl Trowbridge-Miller
It would be nice if you could expound a little more such as time frame and
a location.

My library in Ohio told me that they could not get interlibrary loan across

Jerry,
Go to the library. Egad, man, if you live in UTAH, you are surrounded by
genealogists and recorded history.
Go to: http://http.tamu.edu:8000/~mbg5500/genealogy/lds_gen_info.html
For the LDS Genealogy Resource Page.
I only ask that what you find, you post to the list!

Dear Marsha:
The information that has come to me concerning the name clevenger is as
follows.
I understand that Clevenger was an occupational description which meant "the
keeper of the "Kleven." This offical was the keeper of the king's treasury.
He was armed with a Kleven - (Claymore) which was a warrior's hatchet. It is
possible that the original
came to England with William the conqueror. I probably have a note from a
genea-
logical book which convey this information to me. I hope this helps.
Tom Betzer
I thought you wanted to know WHERE, not WHO.
The Randolph Co Clevengers are a hard bunch to untangle. They have
people who go back to the Virginia Clevengers, some to the New Jersey
Clevengers and some to the Bedford Co, PA ones. Have you looked at
Griffith's book on the Clevengers?
