That is very interesting - thanks for posting that. I am from the southern
line also.
Robin, if you're reading this I looked for your Richard Cromwell on the 1870
Hill County census and also the 1880 and could not find him. He is still in
Virginia with his father on the 1870 Virginia census.

I don't know if this will be of any help to you or not, but I found your
family in the 1920 census:
Everett Stewart (28) wife Annie (26) Justice Precinct 2, Wilson, Texas abt
1892 Texas White Head with two daughters, Lothell 2 yrs. 8 mo. and Muriel
age 11 months. It says Annie father was born in Alabama and mother in
Texas.
[Wilson Co. is just south of San Antonio and not that far from Gonzales Co.]
In 1930 census:
Everyette O Stewart 37 wife Annie E 35 Precinct 7, Wilson Co , TX abt 1893
Texas Head
They had added 2 daughters & 3 sons.
Census still says her Dad b. in Alabama so guess this must be correct.
(Sorry, I meant that I've found the census records info. sometimes
changes.)
I'm sure sorry I don't have your Annie Estelle in my Cleveland file.

Sorry, but I could not help but jump into your discussion about Texas
Cleveland's too, and thought you might be interested in reading about what I
think must be the first Cleveland to come to Texas.
I also descend from the Southern Line of Cleveland's as Robin, (and am
also a Texan) therefore was really surprised and very proud to discover
that one member of our Cleveland Family arrived in Texas even before our
state became a Republic. Her name was Mary Frances (also known as Polly)
Cleveland b. 14 Aug 1809. She was the daughter of Benjamin Cleveland &
Argin Blair, Granddaughter of John H. "Devil John" Cleveland & Catherine
Montgomery Sloan and Great Granddaughter of Col. Benjamin Cleveland and Mary
Graves. (My 4th Great Grandfather was Rev. John Cleveland, a brother to Col.
Benjamin Cleveland). This line goes back to Virginia, too, being the same
line as Robin's ancestors..
Mary Frances married Thomas Jefferson Rusk on 04 Jan 1827, both were born
in Pendleton Dist. SC. I think they arrived in Texas about 1834 but from
what I read, since the area was at that time Mexico, Thomas lst became
citizen of Mexico on February 11, 1835 but later he got involved with the
Texas independent movement and later became Sec. of War for the Republic of
Texas & served in many more ways, too. If you're interested, you can read
more about both Mr. and Mrs. Rusk at
http://www.tamu.edu/ccbn/dewitt/rusktj.htm.

All of these southern "Cleveland's" are related if you go back far enough.

Robin,
There is information about your Richard Cromwell Cleveland on the LDS site
and gives his ancestry pretty far back and the people who have submitted it.
Just type in FamilySearch.com and when the site comes up type in his name,
date of birth and where he was born.

Good morning. I'm new to this list and have a pretty good handle for
the basics on my Cleveland line thanks to much help from other
Cleveland descendants. I come from the Southern branch, from Virginia
straight to Texas. My g-grandfather was Richard Cromwell (R. C.)
Cleveland, who was born in Fluvanna County VA and migrated to Hill
County Texas. I recently received a copy of his obituary (1930) and
would like to share it with you.
When I lived in Washington DC I drove to Fluvanna County and found his
birth record in a large ledger in the county courthouse. His father's
occupation was listed as "wheelwright." I did meet the granddaughter
of his eldest son, Darlene Henson, about 12 years ago but I have lost
her contact information. R. C. was married twice. Darlene's
grandfather, Dana Cleveland was the son from his first marriage and my
grandmother, Ida Cleveland Brown, was one of the children from his
second marriage.
One note: I have seen references that say he was buried in Old City
Cemetery, Hillsboro, TX. But the obituary and the cemeteries listings
found on the Hill County genealogy website show he is buried in the
Ridge Park Cemetery next to Nancy Ora Graham Cleveland, my
g-grandmother. Here is the text of the obiturary.
Sincerely,
Robin Brown
now in Altamonte Springs FL but a Texan always!
