Linda-- thanks for writing, yes I have information that sez they were
married in Williamson, Co, but that county has no records for the year 1830, and
since Williamson co, was also part of Franklin County , I have been unable to
find any records there either-- Am hoping that maybe some of Evans siblings
decendents will have some information, if they are ever interested in finding
out about the Cleveland family--- Anna
According to
GeraldBomian@ myfamily.com on the Rootswebsite, Nancy Jordan and Evan
Cleeland were married in 1830 in Williamson County, Illinois.
Hope this helps.
Linda
Sorry I can't help you. my mother always told me the same thing, but I
wasn't ineterested in that until after my mother died-- I am trying to find out
about Evan cleveland my gggrandfather, who his parents and siblings were, he
married Nancy Jordan in Ill in 1830 but I can't find any thing about that
either. Even his obit doesn't list his parents or siblings-- keep hoping some one
will comeup with something someday. Anna Halterman
I too have been loooking for the clue to my great grandma Senna? Cini?
Cleveland being related to Grover Cleveland. I have always been told it would make
me 5th cousin to him. Senna? Cleveland married Jackson Glaze and was parents
to Lillie Glaze Hale my paternal grandmother. Any help would be appreciated.
My grandparents Hale lived in Biglow area near Little Rock,Arkansas.
Thanks.Syble Hale
Vonda--- Was wondering if since you are from Ill-- (I am too)-- if you
know anything about Evan Cleveland-- he married Nancy Jordan in 1830 in Ill,
but evidently he came from Tenn, thru Ky and then into Ill where he met his
family-- hear say says that he was kidnapped by the Indians and when 18 left and
came to Ill, have been unable to find out who his parents were, or his
siblings, HE and Nancy moved back and forth to Posey Co Indiana and Ill and they died
and are buried near Carmi , Ill.
No one seems to know who his parents were, census records just list him as
being born in Tn. He is my gggrandfather. I live near Carbondale, Il, have
tired to find out about the Jordans and the Clevelands who lived in So. Ill , as
I understand that West Frankfort, Ill was named after the Jordans-- Jordans
fort was near there.-- If you think you have any information, regarding this
family of Clevelands, I would be happy to hear from you== Anna Halterman
Yes the name Cleveland is a big puzzle. My grandmother always told us , we
were kin to Grover Cleneland. Her father was a Cleveland from Missouri.Moved to
Ar. after her husband died, Grover wanted her to come live with them, they
would help raise her 8 kids.Oh what we miss when we don't start genealogy when
they are alive ,that can help. This is one of my brick walls.

approx. 30 different states have the name Cleveland listed. I am also
researching the Cleveland families and find this a big puzzel even when I own the
three copies of the Cleveland Genealogy books. If I can help drop a line.

I have the info on the statue of Benjamin C. Cleveland burried somewhere
under stacks of unorganized documents, notes, misc. papers. Would you tell me what
city it is in and if it still stands.
That's very interesting! Just as you cross from South Carolina (the
state in which I live) into North Carolina I believe the very first
county in NC is Cleveland County!
And we were just up that way the other week. Kings Mountain is also
just across the border, so to speak. We visited the battlegrounds
there with our children when they were young. I had no idea that a
CLEVELAND had contributed so much to the history of that area! By the
way, I'm also researching the CLEVELAND surname. My people were in
Georgia having come from Virginia and settling in Elbert,
Washington-Wilkes, Franklin and other counties in Georgia. Here in
Greenville, SC where I live there are streets named "CLEVELAND", and a
major city park named "CLEVELAND Park"! The CLEVELANDs went all
over!!!
Of course, I do realize that there are the Southern CLEVELANDs and then
there are the Northern CLEVELANDs; and that it seems that it's the
Northern CLEVELANDs who are related to former President Grover
CLEVELAND.
In Hartwell, GA. my hometown, there are also numerous CLEVELANDs and
streets, etc. named for them. Our school superintendent was a Jerry
CLEVELAND when I was in school many decades ago.
Then his son was either a band director or a coach at the local high
school.
I hope these tidbits of information help someone to look in some
different, if not new, directions.
Thanks!

I've heard there were mistakes in these volumes as you got further back
in time. I don't remember exactly (I don't have my notes at hand) but
somewhere around when/where the northern US Clevelands and the southern
Clevelands separated, there are some problems. Does anybody know about
this?

There are three volumns of the The Genealogy of the CLEVELAND and CLEAVELAND
FAMILIES. Some libraries will have it on micro flim (3 rolls) and it can be
ordered from the National Archives. I ordered mine about ten years or more ago
and it was $27.00 per roll. You need all three rolls. It gives the origin and
history of the CLEVELAND name. EDMUND JANES CLEVELAND and HORACE GILLETTE
CLEVELAND compiled this information and it was printed in 1899. It took many years
and Horace died before it was completed.
My ancestor was BARNARD & MARY (CLEVELAND) FRANKLIN m: in VA ca 1761. Both
died in Surry county NC, she in 1808. She was the sister of BENJAMIN C.
CLEVELAND of some fame at Kings Mountain. There is quite a bit of info about Benjamin,
also his Franklin nephews, in The Draper Manuscripts.
Good luck with your research, Johnnye
Hi Linda,
No, I haven't tried looking in the book you mentioned. Thank you so much for
taking the time to send me a tip.
