Hi, Mike!
If you will go to the CFCRS website (URL below) and then click the link to
the Cleveland Family Forum, you will find some posts about ways to acquire
copies of the 3-volume Cleveland genealogy c1899.
In case you have trouble getting the volumes, the reference to Nathan
Peterson/Petersen is that he and his wife Nancy Lindsay or McDougal were the
parents of Amelia Peterson/Peterson, who married Truman Cleaveland (< Jesse
Cleaveland < Joseph Cleaveland < Josiah Cleaveland < Moses
Cleaveland/Cleveland). Truman was originally of Brooklyn, CT, and then of
Montreal and Bondhead, Ontario. Truman and Amelia had three sons named Truman
~ the first two died in infancy. The last, Truman Lorenzo Cleaveland, was b.
16 Oct 1825/1826, d. 11 Jun 1865 in Campton, IL.
There was no Truman Cleveland Peterson/Petersen in the index to this set.
I know this isn't much, but I hope it helps a little.
Love and blessings,
Vikki

The only reason that it could contain it was because the person that posted
the message, put it in there. Whenever that happens, it's because the
person that wanted to unsubscribe, sent the message to the wrong address.
They should have included the word request after SURNAME-, then
it would have gone through the robot.

In a new ancestry.com source, there is mention of Nathan Peterson in The
Genealogy of Cleveland and Cleaveland by Edw. James Cleveland, 1899. Does
anyone know if this book is online or where it can be found or does anyone
have it and can tell me what kind of data is there on Nathan? I know that my
gg grandfather is Nathan Peterson who had a son named Truman Cleveland
Peterson and it seems reasonable there is a connection. There are three
Nathan's in my heritage; 1) b. 1802 in Rhode Island, 2) born 1767 in Rhode
Island, and 3) born 1734 -1737 in Mass. If anyone who has access to this
book and could look Nathan up for me it would be greatly appreciated or if
anyone can tell me how to get a hold of the book or web page, etc. Thank you
very much, Mike Peterson
Hi Edna!
I don't have any documentation, but I have been told by my grandmother (a
Vickery) that her father used to speak of slaves in Georgia. However, her
grandfather separated himself from the Georgia Vickerys and lived in
Mississippi and Alabama for most of his life. He didn't talk a lot about the
family in Georgia, didn't own slaves of his own (was in fact dirt poor
himself). I will try to learn more from my grandmother, though.
I do appreciate your attitude towards a very touchy subject though! I often
find information about other branches of my family that owned slaves, and
feel sick inside knowing that I am related to that practice by my blood -
then I stop and think about it rationally and remind myself that our goal in
life should always be to avoid the mistakes our ancestors made before us.
Those are the lessons of history, like you said~

Hello!
I was grew up in Hart County, GA! My family well knew the VICKERYs and
the CLEVELANDs. My maternal G-Grandmother was Ophelia CLEVELAND, m.
Peter J. WHITE in Elbert County, GA. in 1872.
And YES, there are still MANY VICKERYS and CLEVELANDs in that area to
this day
I've well traced the WHITE surname side of my family back to the late
1700's to Virginia. But although I know many CLEVELAND cousins who
live in and around Franklin, Hart, and Elbert Counties, I am not able
to trace back beyond my G-Grandmother Ophelia. The WHITE surname side
of my family tree were free persons of color, but I believe the
CLEVELAND side might have been slaves as I am unable so far to find
records of them.
Here's where I am hoping ANY of you might be of help to me: Do ANY of
you have deeds, tax records, records of wedding gifts, etc. or any other
type of documentation that might show slaves in the White (race)
CLEVELAND families?
If you do, please don't feel badly to admit it, as I view slavery as a
part of History now; and the only way I can find my ancestors is to
research ancestors of another race. If you do, would you please e-mail
me and/or post here?
Vikki CLEVELAND has been most generous and helpful to me over the past
year or so.
Thank you so very much in advance!
Edna S. Lewis
(In SC, but born and raised in GA.)
Yes - I am directly related to the Vickerys that came out of Hart Co.
Georgia. That is where my GGGF Marion Vickery met and married Emma
Cleveland. I just haven't gotten a lot on Emma yet - been chasing down other
family tails, iff you know what I mean. I didn't realize that the Clevelands
were as prevalent in that area as the Vickerys were - I am glad to have found
you all on this list!

I would dearly LOOOOVVVVVEEEE group sheets for this line. It isn't one that
I have done much with as yet, for time reasons. It is interesting that
Emma's father was a Vickery, and then she married a Vickery. I wonder if
they were from the same family. My snail mail address is:

Hi:
Have you tried checking for your Clevelands in Hart County, Georgia?
There were many Clevelands and Vickerys that were first in Hart (Franklin)
County, Ga. and moved on to Alabama (my husband's family moved from Ga. to
Ala. in the late 1800's.)

Thank you so much Vikki ~ I never dreamed for anyone to really reply !!!
Thank yo so much for your time and attention to my request!!!!
I was tickled to pieces to recieve the information you enclosed, and I do
hope to find more information. . . . . our library here is very small and I
would have to go to a bigger city to get the interlibrary loan program.
I did a search and looked at the Higginson Books company web, and the 3
volume set I believe you are talking about goes for $119.00. This may not
be in my home for a long while at this cost. I do wish to say thank you
so much again, and I really do appreciate all your time and attention, and
if you don't mind to look into your 3vol for me, I'd sure like to know
more. . . .
Thank you so much !!!
Happy Holidays

Hello, Shannon!
I have Marion E. Vickery and his wife Emma Susannah Cleveland in the CFCRS
database. According to the info I have, her birthday was 30 Nov 1870, but I
do not have a birthplace. And I have her death date as 11 Mar 1935 ~ but I
know dates that are passed along to me are not always correct, so I will
surely defer to the death certificate there.
Her parents were Andrew Jackson Cleveland and Mary Ann Vickery.
If you like me to run hard copies of the groups sheets for this line, please
send me your snail mail address.
Good luck with your research.

I have a Cleveland that lived in AL and died there - her name was Emma Susan
Cleveland, she married Marion Vickery. Does Emma ring any bells? Her death
certificate says she was born Nov. 30 1874 and died May 5, 1935. Her father
was Andy Cleveland, born in Georgia. She may have been born in Georgia as
well. Thanks!

Hi,
There is a Thomas Lamson Cleveland (b. 1 Nov 1830), #6969 in the 1899
Cleveland genealogy by Edmund Janes Cleveland and Horace Gillette Cleveland.
I think this is the one you are looking for. Though there are not many
details on him, his wife is listed as Mary Wolf, and they had twin daughters.
According to the genealogy, this was his lineage:
Thomas Lamson Cleveland < William Waterman and Sarah Maria or Marie
Antoinette Lamson Cleveland < William Cleveland < William Cleveland < Henry
Cleveland < Josiah Cleveland < Moses and Ann Winn Cleveland.
If this is the line you are looking for and you cannot locate copies of the
3-volume Cleveland genealogy, let me know and I will gather more information
for you from my set. Sometimes the 3-volumes are available through
interlibrary loan. You can also purchase reprints through Higginson Books. If
you go to the CFCRS website (URL below) and then check into the Cleveland
Family Forum, there are a few posts dealing with how to get the genealogy.
Good luck with your research.

Looking for info on a THOMAS LAMPSON CLEVELAND born about 1833 in New York,
and info of his known death place, which is possibly in Kansas -
my Notes on Thomas Lampson Cleveland:
He married in either Mo or Iowa on June 19, 1867 to Mary Lucretia WOLF.
Three children born to them in Decatur County Iowa: William Anderson
Cleveland born Sept 1868, and twin girls Sarah "Sadie" Marie Cleveland and
Mary Frances Cleveland born Dec 1869.
Later moving to Woodston Kansas area,
according to the 1880 Kansas census records, his parents were both of
Missouri.
His son William died of heart and pneumonia March 23, 1887 Woodston Kansas,
from the Woodston Saw Newspaper.
On the 1900 Oklahoma Census - Thomas Lampson Clevelands' wife is widowed
and living with her folks with only one child still living- that being
daughter Mary Frances Cleveland Mitchell of Noble County Oklahoma.
In 1909 / Oklahoma, daughter Mary Frances marries a 2nd time and a JAMES L.
CLEVELAND was a witness on her marriage lic. - possibly a sure connection
to our Thomas L. Cleveland.
Parents of Thomas L. Cleveland are said to be WILLIAM WATERMAN CLEVELAND
AND SARAH MARIE ANTOINETTE LAMSON.
Any help would be so greatly apprieciated in finding Thomas L. Clevelands'
marriage place and death place, and his siblings / family , ect. . . .
William Vallance and Sarah "Sally" Ann (Gibson) Wolf:
children: Mary Lucretia (Wolf) Cleveland m) Thomas Lampson Cleveland
Children: William Anderson, Sarah "Sadie" Marie and Mary Frances
