MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Velma Alice Clester, 85, Muscatine, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.
Services are at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. The Rev. Wade Duroe will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. After the burial, a luncheon will be held at the American Legion. Pallbearers are Scott Clester, Travis Clester, Lonnie Clester, Dusty Clester, Steve Rhodes Jr., Ernest LeRoy Clester Jr., Troy Clester and Rusty Clester. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Clester, Tracy Clester, Tyson Clester and Ron Nichols.
Mrs. Clester was born Dec. 16, 1917, in Fruitland, the daughter of Robert and Stella Cassady Nichols.
She was a cook at Manhattan for 37 years and she enjoyed playing bingo.
Survivors include three sons, Everett Clester and his wife, Connie, Gary Clester and his wife, Diana, and Ernest Clester and fiance, Brenda Wheeler, all of Muscatine; a daughter, Deborah Fetters and her husband, David, of West Liberty; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Linda; two brothers, Ernest and Virgil; a half brother, James; and three sisters, Edith, Esther and Helen.
