Marsha, When I referred to Charles the immigrant I meant the one whose name
was given to the city of Charleston (now W. VA). The brother's name is
unknown. Some old written letters called him "Henry" but I have reason to
believe that is not correct. I tried for years to positively identify the
father of my ancestor James Clendenin but have not found it.

Don, When you say the Brother of Charles, who are you referring to? And
when you say Charles, are you talking about the Charles Clendenin for
whom the city of Charleston WV is named? I am unclear on just exactly
who we are talking about in this message, and I am very interested.

Hi Edith, Jan sent me your message. I don't know if I can help you but I'll offer what I know.
I descend from James and Margaret (Anderson) Clendenin. James Clendenin was either a son of either Charles Clendenin the immigrant or from a brother of Charles. My Y-DNA is a 36/37 match with a proven descendent of Charles. My family legend holds that James was a nephew of Charles.
The rest of my line:
John Clendenin & Mary Sympson
James Clendenin & Margaret Heard
John Clendenin and Mary Vickers
Dr. Moses W. Clendenin and Lydia Ann Wagner
William W. Clendenin & Belle Mulcaster
Walter E.Clendenin born Jan. 8, 1900 and Barbara Harman
Walter and Barbara are my parents.
I'll answer any questions if I can.

Dear Sharon,
Saw the extensive linage on rootsweb and was wondering if you had any information on a and Catherine/Katherine Clendenin/ Gendinning who married James Hope b Jan 23, 1704? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to find the great grandparents of William Clendenin Hope b. Nov. !7, 1807 in Green Co. Tn. Whose father was believed to be James Anderson Hope b. 1785 and his father was supposedly Samuel Hope b. 1755, whose father was James Hope b. Jan. 23, 1704?
Sincerely,
Ellen Maulding
Sharon,
Thanks for sending this information. I checked the new ancestors in my DAR
Newsletter that comes with the magazine and Mary is listed only as Mary
Boggs. I went to the members website and found her listed and with her as Mary
Clendenin Boggs. The member who established her has proved a long list of
ancestors through the Boggs and Lemasters lines. I would never had known this
connection if you had not sent it. Who was Mary's father James and was he kin
to my Adam? Are you a DAR? I have been a member since 1973 and became a
member on Abner Hamilton, the son of John Hamilton and Mary Stewart. I think I
can submit a supplemental on John Hamilton. Abner married Mary Clendenin,
the daughter of Adam/Adams. I am currently trying to establish my lineage from
James Stewart/Stuart the father of Mary Stewart Hamilton for membership in
Daughters of American Colonists. He was burned at the stake by Indians in
Augusta County. I have documentation for the marriage of John and Mary but have
to establish her as James Stewart's daughter. John Hamilton was chosen as a
guardian of one of the orphans of James Stewart but that is not good enough.
In your research in Augusta County, have you seen anything that would
document this. My goal is to establish my lineage in these organizations from
ancestors who could not be proved in DAR. James Stewart was killed before the
Rev. War. I wonder if these Scots/Irish Stewarts, Hamiltons and Clendenins
all came to America about the same time and possibly knew one another in the
old country. Thank you for all you do.
Best Regards,
Suzy Gartin
