Well, I don't know if people's information goes back this far, but the
Clendennin I'm looking for married the first Kimberlin immigrant in my
family. Johann Jacob Peter Kimberlin and Sarah "Sally" Clendennin left
Rotterdam on a ship called Rosanna and landed in Philadelphia in 1743. They
moved around PA and MD awhile and then settled in Hampshire Co., VA, which
today is Mineral Co., WV. Dates for him are something like 1723-1777
(roughly). Hers I'm not sure about.
I have seen the early Clendennins mentioned in a lot of pioneer literature
concerning WV, PA and so on, but I've been unable to link them to my family
or find out any more about who they were in Europe. There just doesn't seem
to be a lot written about the surname even though some of the early pioneers
show up at random in various sources. That's why I joined this mailing
list. If anybody has the time to give me a crash course on the Clendennins
in America and Europe, I would greatly appreciate it.
God bless,
Ross K.

Of course the Clendenin doesn't have to go back that far. But it must be on the mother's line, i.e., mother, her mother, her mother, etc.

Hello,
Was your mother or her mother or her mother a Clendenin (regardless of how you spell it)?
If so I am now willing to open the Clendenin DNA project to mitochondrial testing (mtDNA).
Either men or women who have a maternal line back to a Clendenin female may take this test. mtDNA is passed from mother to both sons and daughters, but only the daughters pass it on to their own children.
The test you want to order is the mtDNA refine test which tests two regions -- HVR1 and HVR2.
If you have any questions please let me know before ordering any tests.
Thanks,
Sharon
