M. Clendenen Died Tuesday at Hospital
Had Been in Poor Health for Some Time
Mrs. Mary Agnes Clendenen, well known and esteemed resident of the Copeland
Christian church community all her life, and who lived five miles southwest
of
Mount Pulaski, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 1945 in St. Clara's
Hospital, Lincoln, Ill., aged 85 years, 5 months, and 22 days. Although she
had been
in feeble health for many months, her last illness was of short duration.
During the early hours of Sunday morning, she suffered a stroke and was
removed
to the hospital in the Schahl ambulance.
Mary Agnes Scroggin was born Feb. 9, 1860, five miles southwest of Mount
Pulaski, daughter of Leonard D. and Mary Sims Scroggin, pioneers of this
community. She was united in marriage to John H. Clendenen on Jan. 8, 1890,
and they
observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1940. Her husband preceded her
in
death on August 2, 1943. She was the last member of the Scroggin family to
survive.
She had been an active and faithful member of the Copeland Christian church
for 60 years, and taught a bible class there for 44 years. She was a member
of
the church's Ladies Aid.
Decedent is survived by two daughters, Mrs. William Burris, of Atlanta, and
Mrs. Ellis Quandt, with whom she made her home; and three grandchildren,
Eloise, Paul, and Leon Quandt.
The remains were removed to the Schahl Funeral Home, and taken to the family
residence on Wednesday afternoon.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, in Copeland Chris
tian church, conducted by Rev. Kenneth Hooe, of Blue Mound, assisted by the
pastor, Raymond Huffman, of San Jose. "Under His Wings" was sung by Myrna
and
Glenna Copeland, and George and Clarence Bowers, and "The Holy City" was
sung by
John Bowers. The accompanist was Miss Joyce Bowers.
Burial was in Steenbergen Cemetery, pallbearers being Herbert Shellhammer,
Donald Copeland, Willis Ayers, George Gulso, Charles Herring, and Fred
Bellati.
In charge of the flowers were Mrs. Clarence Bowers, Mrs. Richard Drabing,
Mrs. Herbert Shellhammer, and Mrs. Donald Copeland.

1601 Robert Glendonyng, A.M. trans. from Parton, at which time St. Mary Isle and Dunrod were also in his charge. He was pres. to the Vicarage of Dunrod by James VI. 13th March 1605, and to that of Kirkcudbright 4th Jan. 1615, and was nominated by the Assembly 1606 constant Moderator of Presb. in absence of the Bishop. He was engaged by the magistrates and council 14th Jul 1602, with j li "for serving the cure, and for his manse, gleib, and kirk-lands thairof." He was a member of the Assemblies 1608 and 1610, but was deprived by the Court of High Commission 1636, for refusing conformity to the Articles of the Assembly at Perth, and refusing admission to his pulpit of one who did. A warrant was then issued for his impreisonment though in his 79th year. He died in 1737 aged 80. He was one of those accounted in his day for "grace and gifts or faithfulness and success." He marr. 1594. Robert Glendonyng, A.M, son to the gudeman of Drumrasche, was laureated at the Univ. of Glasgow in 1584. After travelling abroad, he returned in a dress of scarlet and gold lace, when he was accosted by Welsh, then min. of Kirkcudbright, telling him it behoved him to change his garb and manner of life, and take to the study of the Scriptures, as he should Succeed him in his spiritual calling. In 1599 Balmaghie and Crossmichael were also in the charge. He continued 10th June 1601, and was tras. to Kirkcudbright about 1601. [Mun. Univ. Glas. iii., Reg. Assig., Test. Reg., Life of Welsh.]
