While searching for my G grandfather's parents in Yancyville, Caswell Co,
NC, I came across a book, Heritage of Caswell Co, NC, which included The
John Clendenin Family. To summarize: John Clendenin born 1760-1770, Orange
Co, NC. Married Elizabeth "Betsy" Anderson there in October, 1798. Moved to
Caswell Co. in 1809. Oldest son, Anderson, moved to Henry Co, TN. John and
younger children followed in 1836. John died there in May, 1837. There is a
lot more about the Tennessee Clendenins.
For a while I tried to tie my family to this John, but it didn't work. I am
now trying to tie this John back to William of Orange Co. Going through the
descendants of William that I received from Sharon, the only John that would
fit is William's grandson, son of his oldest son John. Since the elder John
was born in 1756, son John would have had to be born later than the
estimated date included in the book, say about 1776-78. This works with his
marriage in 1798.
Has anyone documented the connection of the Caswell Co. John to the Orange
Co. Clendenins?
William F. Clendenin
