Sharon –
Your great lineage of my grandfather, Henry Clendenin, arrived yesterday.
Thank you so very much. I owe you one – big time. You have no idea how much
I appreciate this. I now have enough information to at least get started so
you will be hearing from me.
Have a great weekend and again – I really thank you. You’re a gem!!!

Good morning everyone,
We have a new DNA participant -- William Forrest Clendenin. Bill's earliest proven ancestor is James J. Clendenin who married Sarah A. Hodges.
From a query Bill posted we have determined that James' parents are most likely William G. Clendenin and Isabella Johnston. The pursuit of the paper trail is underway.
Bill has ordered the 37-marker test to confirm his genetic lineage from William Clendenin of NC.

I did not see the question about Roselle, just the answer, so I may be
jumping into something with incomplete knowledge.
However, I am pretty sure that Roslyn, Virginia is not a historic name. I
lived in Northern VA for 23 years, and think I read in the Washington Post that
it was named relatively recently (1960's?) when developers started a high rise
"city" there. It is not a city, but simply a "neighborhood" of Arlington
County. It does not appear in my 1950's atlas.

Thank you for you quick response. The J.J. Clendenin in the 1860, 1870, and
1880 censuses is clearly my ancestor. The S.M. Hodges was his mother-in-law.
His son, William S., was my grandfather. The fact that two of his children
bore the names William and Isabelle would indicate you are right. I am new
at this research, how do I go about proving it? Does anyone have the
genealogy of that William Clendenin?

I am new to this list and am trying to trace my great grandfather, James J.
Clendenin. According to his gravestone in the New Salem Methodist Church in
Iredale Co., NC he was born Dec 10, 1825 and died Mar 7, 1897. My earlist
record for him is his marriage to Susan A. Hodges on Dec 15, 1857 in Caswell
Co. NC. Any clue would be appreciated. Sorry for the cross posting to two
lists.

Dear Ken,
The location "Roselle" could possibly be Roslyn, Virginia (Arlington
County, VA) which is directly across the Potomac from Washington,
D.C. At present one can take the Memorial Bridge from D.C. to
Virginia (this bridge leads directly into Arlington National Cemetery.)
or the Franci Scott "Key" Bridge. Both bridges put you right in Roslyn
which could be where that Clendenin was born.
Hope this helps,
Mary Louise Townsend
We all know most of the 1890 Census was destroyed, but, NOT all of it. In
doing a
search on Ancestry.com, I found a 1890 Washington DC census record for
William H. Clendenin age 18 living with his Widowed mother, Alice G.
Clendenin
age 47. He was born in Roselle (Where ever that is) and she was born in
Washington DC. There occupations were "Dry Goods Clerk" and "Mom",
respectively.
She had 4 children, only one still living.
If anyone know who this is, I would be inerested. If this is of any help to
any it is in the 1890 Federal Census for Washington DC census, Roll M407_2,
page 591B.

Hi,
I think we're getting back to normal here - at least for a little while. God willing the other 'canes forming out there will blow themselves out while still at sea.
My subject line today is new participants but let's address the ones we have right now first.
I am expecting the retested results for Guy Clendinnen any day now. I, of course, am hoping the lab made a clerical error. But we will deal with that when we get the results.
Steve and Nick are both waiting for third panel upgrades while Nick is waiting also waiting for his second panel markers. Willie is also waiting for second panel markers; his third panel markers have been returned but not yet released.
And we have another kit out there that has not yet been returned to the lab for the testing.
Has anyone made headway in their paper search to match up any of the other participants with whom the DNA was close?
I am trying to get our DNA study mentioned on the Clan Douglas website. They seem to be having a few problems right now, but I hope we can advertise ourselves in that manner.
We really do need more participants. If there is anyone out there that you have corresponded with and you're not quite sure if you are related, this is an excellent way to determine that.
Try to recruit a new participant.
Thanks,
Sharon
Sharon – I have not received the file on Henry Clendenin. Have you sent it?
I fear it may have been lost in the mail as I live out of the USA. Thank
you again for this. I truly appreciate it.

John Sherman Clendening was born March 23, 1820, in Ireland. His wife, Joannah, was also born in Ireland. In August 1840, he purchased 80 acres in Morgan Co., IN. The family moved to Edgar Co., IL, between 1854-1857 and to Vernon Co., MO, in 1860. By 1865, he was living in Bourbon Co., KS, where he died in 1875. His son James moved to Colorado and is buried in Denver. His son John died in San Diego, CA, in 1938. The following descendancy chart gives more information. I would like to hear from anyone related to or interested in this family.

Hello,
There is an on-going discussion being conducted on another mailing list that I subscribe to. The question deals with eye color and haplogroups, i.e., whether a specific haplogroup had a specific eye color.
We have two haplogroups identified in our project so I'm asking the participants in our DNA project if they will send me the following information:
1. Your eye color
2. Your hair color (yes, the discussion has moved into that area too) at the age of 21
3. Father's eye color
4. Mother's eye color.
There are 18 of you who have had haplogroups suggested based on the markers 1-12. Could I get answers from the 18 of you?
Thanks,
Sharon

Hello,
I have changed the focus of the Clendenin Surname DNA Project to read Clendenin-Glendennin(g) (g doesn't show up). Also I have opened it to all of any of the known variants world-wide.
I have done this as an attempt to draw new members without starting a new surname project with FTDNA.
Would anyone be willing to volunteer to scour the Internet looking for individuals of the variant surnames who could be contacted about joining the Clendenin-Glendennin Surname Project?
