Hi,
We have had 11 kits ordered and all 11 have been returned to the testing facility. Their quality control is running about 10 days behind so we are expecting our first results back about the 7th of April.
It is taking about eight weeks for the test results to be returned.
I'm still looking for proof that William Clendennen who married Helen Fowler and ended up in Cole Co., MO is the son of James and Margaret (Anderson) Clendenin. Any assistance you can render will be gratefully accepted. A will naming William as a son of James; deeds used to settle James' estate; an estate settlement; deeds with James selling land to William and naming William as his son -- these are all types of proof that we can use.
Anything, anyone?
Sharon
I received this message a couple of days ago from Gail R. Blancett:
"There is also a Turner Surname DNA project that is very active. We have 81 male Turners all with roots in the mid-Atlantic area who followed the Southern migration route through the Carolinas and some that went directly to KY on the Westward trek.
We are hoping to find a male Turner directly descended from Rebecca Clendenin who married James Turner in Orange Co., NC and then were in the part that became Alamance Co., NC. We think some of the desendants of this family also remained in the part that was Orange Co.
We are trying to see which of the Orange/Caswell/Alamance County Turners belong to which group of Turners as there clearly appear to be more than one separate "clan" there."
You can check this out by going to www.familytreedna.com and clicking on Turner under the Projects heading.
The Alexander Clendenin, of Vernon County Missouri (and husband to Mary
Freshwater), was born in Orange County, North Carolina in 1790. He is
presumed to be the son of Joseph Clendenin and Anne Webb. This Joseph
is the son the Clendenin colloquially known as "William of North
Carolina." Around 1838, Alexander Clendenin and his immediate family
moved from North Carolina and settled in Scott County Virginia.
Alexander's family stayed in Scott County until they relocated to
Missouri the early 1850s. All of Alexander's extended family made this
move except for my ancestor, Joseph S. Clendenin, and one daughter,
(who's name escapes me at the moment). Joseph S. Clendenin remained in
Scott County for the rest of his life As a side note, I am descended
from Joseph S. Clendenin (and his wife Rebecca Campbell) through their
son, Thadeus. In this branch of the Clendenin family, the use of the
name Thadeus comes from the Freshwater connection (where it had been in
usage for many generations).

Okay, there are enough of you out there someone should be able to give me an answer.
I have a list of children for John and Mary Sympson Clendenin. What I don't have is a list of the children's spouses. Have lots of source materials but can't match it up.
Please help.
Thanks,
Sharon
Hi Cousins,
Thanks for the puzzle of the day. I only get the digest version, so someone
has probably already come up with the answer.
A notarized copy of the Harvey Clendenin Bible, passed down from Nancy Mann
to Mildred Bilderback Midjaas, who was a great granddaughter of Harvey
Clendenin, says that Ephraim R. was the son of Harvey Clendenin. This would have been
by his first wife Getty Bilderback. Harvey's second wife was Lourancy
Barber, whom he married in 1825. Harvey died in 1845.
There is a complete listing of this family in this Bible. If anyone is
interested, I will type more.
According to A Directory, Business Mirror, and Historical Sketches of
Randolph County, published in 1859, the sons of John Clendenin, who arrived from KY
in 1808 [I think the date is off, since I have a KY deed for him dated 1809],
were James, Henry, John, and Harvey.
[James was my ancestor, as well as that of list member Don Clendenin. We both
descend from his son John Hurd Clendenin. My ancestor is Sarah Jane
Clendenin, who married her second cousin, once removed, Henry Gilbreath. Both Sarah
Jane and Henry were descendants of Hugh and Elizabeth Gilbreath of Berkeley Co.
VA. ]
According to the above sketch:
James was the father of Simpson and John H. Clendenin.
Henry died without issue.
John was the father of James Harvey and Henry Simpson Clendenin.
Harvey was the father of Ephraim R., John C., Samuel, Harvey, and Henry
Clendenin.
While my clients wait for their Georgia genealogy, what I am doing
fooling around in Illinois records? Because, like the rest of us, I can't resist
a genealogical puzzle!
Your Cousin,
Leah Gilbeath Gonzalez
Duluth GA
Charles,
Could you tell us when Alexander and Thaddeus were in Vernon Co. and where
was Alexander born in 1788?
Thanks,
Sharon

Sharon, here is what I have. I copied notes from my records. I don't have
way to copy and paste FGS. I can make the effort to manually copy if you wish
and I will be glad to do it. Just don't have time right now. Thaddeus and
his family left MO after the War, because of marauding bands of men and moved to
Hempstead Co., AR
Charles
In "NC Marriages", Alex. C. and Polley Freshwater were married 10 Sep 1811.
Alexander Allen listed as witness. I have a copy of the certificate.
Went to Scott Co., VA about 1837, where they were listed in the 1850 census,
and in 1852 they went to Vernon Co., MO (SW part of state) along with some of
his sons and two Campbell sons-in-law
1820 census, Orange Co., NC, Clendenning, Alexander 200010-10010 0sl.

farming
information from Donna Sherron, 111 Sunset Ave;, Smithfield NC, 27577
Since 1850 Scott Co., VA census shows William, 13 b NC and Rebecca, 12, b VA
Alexander and his family must have moved to VA between 1837 and 1838.
!Orange Co., NC Index to marriages shows Thaddeus C., Alexander's son,
marrying Elizabeth Stewart 17 Mar 1836 by R. M. Grimes. I have a copy of the
certificate.
The 1860 census for Audrain Co. Saline twp. , MO shows T.F Clendenin and
family. The MO Index for 1860 shows him as S. F. Clendenin, but on the actual
copy, it is obvious that the very flowerey penmanship is really a T.
It lists: T. F. Clendenin, 45, M, Farmer b NC; E. Clendenin, 35, F, b NC;
G.W. Clendenin, 18, M, b MO; S.M. Clendenin, 16, F, b MO; I (?) W. CLENDENIN,
6, F, b MO; N. A. CLENDENIN, F, 2, b MO; and a Patrick Flynn, M, 40, farm
hand, b in Ireland.
Where is Mary Elizabeth, who should have been about 15?
Since G.W. was 18 in 1860, they had moved to Missouri from Virginia by 1842.
Found this morning:
From The Mexico Ledger, Thurs., Oct. 4, 1883:
"On Sept. 23, 1883, Mrs. Sallie Clendenin, of Santa Fe, Monroe Co. MO.
Mrs. Clendenin was born in Lexington, Ky. Nov. 20, 1800, and was married to Wm. Clendenin in Bourbon county in the year 1822. She came to Missouri in '39, (note - this is hard to read, could it be '59?)and in the year 1836 united with the Christian church. Mrs. Clendenin was the mother of Mrs. Bruce Baldwin of this city[Mexico, Audrain Co., MO]. She was a kind and affectionate mother, a sincere friend to all and especially to those in distress, and a consistent Christian, and, when death stilled the throbbing pulse, she died in the full assurance of a blessed beyond. Children, grieve not, though the clods of the valley hide from mortal view all that remains of the loved one, place your trust that her whom you have so tenderly loved and cherished, has now gone to receive her reward in Heaven, where no ? are spoken, and no farewell word lingers on quivering lips, and no tear dims the right (?) of loving eyes."
I have information on this Clendenin family -- descendants of Charles of VA.
Whoops! Flying fingeres. The Below should read
1880 Federal Census Hempstead Co. "AR" not "MO" (Saline twp).
