Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
When we first started this surname project there were individuals who offered to help financially for testing. Generally these were women who didn't have a male relative named Clendenin to have tested.
If you would be willing to pay or help pay for someone else be tested, would you please contact me so that I can compile a list.
There are some people out there who have indicated they would be willing to be tested but just didn't feel they could spend the money.
Let me know.
Sharon
Should this be added to our wills?
From another list:
Kuzzins,
This came from another list and it should be in our wills.
Especially some of us that have spent many years and money for time, books,
and travel to collect our info.

Genealogical Codicil to My Last Will and Testament
To my spouse, children, guardian, administrator and/or executor:
Upon my demise it is requested that you DO NOT dispose of any or all of
my genealogical records, both those prepared personally by me and those
records prepared by others which may be in my possession, including but
not limited to books, files, notebooks or computer programs for a period
of two years.
During this time period, please attempt to identify one or more persons
who would be willing to take custody of the said materials and the
responsibility of maintaining and continuing the family histories. [If
you know whom within your family or friends are likely candidates to
accept these materials, please add the following at this point: "I
suggest that the persons contacted regarding the assumption of the
custody of these items include but not be limited to" and then list the
names of those individuals at this point, with their addresses and
telephone numbers if known]
In the event you do no find anyone to accept these materials, please
contact the various genealogical organizations that I have been a member
of and determine if they will accept some parts or all of my
genealogical materials. [List of organizations, addresses and phone
numbers at bottom; include local chapters, with their addresses, phone
numbers and contact persons if available as well as state/national
contact information and addresses]
Please remember that my genealogical endeavors consumed a great deal of
time, travel, and money. Therefore it is my desire that the products of
these endeavors be allowed to continue in a manner that will make them
available to others in the future.

Those of you who have submitted kits will receive electronic results. At the top to the right of your name and kit number is a link "y-search." Clicking on this will take you to a new screen where FTDNA offers a free service which allows the comparison of events and certain types of other information.
When you first arrive at this screen you want to "create a new user." Follow the directions from there.
Please be sure you do it when your results come in.
Thank you.
P.S. If you had your results (previously received) transferred to our surname project and have not set up the y-search screens, please do this as well.
Sharon
Hello,
We've had two kits returned and we are awaiting the results of those tests. When they are back we will post the results to the website.
Don't forget -- if you submit a DNA swab for testing, send me your line so that if DNA matches are made, the lineage can be compared.
I have added new pages to the Clendinen Family Genealogy website at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~clendin. Click on Lineages and read the disclaimer and the instructions. There's room for everyone, no matter how you spell the name, where your ancestors were located, or whether it's a female or male Clendenin you're descended from.
If there is anyone out there who has already had DNA testing done at Family Tree DNA (or any of the other testing companies), and you would like to join the Clendenin Surname Project, please send an email to Bennett Greenspan at bcg(a)familytreedna.com. Give him your kit number and request that he include your results in the Clendenin Surname Project. There is no cost to you.
Thanks,
Sharon
Can anyone help this lady?

Subject: James "Perley" Clendennen Genealogy
Hello Sharon:
I have been researching James P. Clendennen (Clendennin) born about 1838 in England and have hit the "brick wall". I recently came across your site and noted your Civil War Soldiers which did not mention him. I do not have much information on him except that he was a shoemaker and married to Susanna Glodell (or Berdell) born 1845. I was told he had a brother William that went west and was never heard from again. James received a Civil War pension until he died on Nov 7, 1892 and then his wife received it until her death in March 1915. He joined on February 8, 1865 in Philadelphia, Pa - Company A1, Regiment of Pa Provisional Mounted Volunteers and was stationed in City Point, Virginia where he incurred rheumatism and general disability due to exposure and was discharged July 13, 1865 Cloud Mills, Virginia with loss of eyesight along with the other illnesses. This information came from a distant cousin who was also researching the Clendennens. She has recently passed aw!
ay in Utah before she could send me a copy of the pension record and I am unable to contact any of the family since they moved after her death. This is only info I have on his service record. I have checked some of the books on Civil War soldiers and he is not mentioned there either. I was told that it was possible that the men would hire someone to fight for them but if that is correct, how could he receive a pension? His obituary does not mention his parents. It only mentions that he was buried "with honors by the Grand Army men, he having been a veteran soldier" and the family extends thanks to the comrades of Ward Post. Listing does not mention where he is buried.
From my research I have learned that they lived in Brooklyn, NY around 1865-1875, then in Ellenville, NY for a few years. Other info that was given to me was that he had gone to Troy, New York to learn how to make baby shoes. He died in a village near Ellenville in 1892 but cannot find a record on his death since I do not know exactly where he died.
As you can see, this is really a brick wall. Does any of this information seem to fit in with your Clendennen family tree? Do you have any "tips" that could help me track down my mysterious James? He was my great grandfather.
Thank you for any help you could give me. I have info on James' descendants if we can make a connection.

Hey,
Our first new test kit has been returned and we're waiting for the results.
Anybody else out there going to do this thing so we have results to compare?
Sharon
It is highly suggested that those female Clendenin descendants who can't submit DNA for testing to pitch in financially.
The guys are out there; they just may not have the money to participate.
Ladies, if you're willing please contact me. Also, if anyone would be willing to step forward and coordinate these efforts, please identify yourself.
Thanks,
Sharon
Hi Lawrence,
Thank you for your reply.
I appreciate the work you have done and the years of research that have been spent. My research is not anywhere near what you have done. I have had the privilege to meet and correspond with several Quaker background people over a number of years.
In answer to your question as to the film sources thay are through the Family History Centre in Salt Lake City being numbers 571395, 571396 and 571397. i believe they are still being used.
For your question about Robert I do not know. My information is based upon my reviews and the reseach done on the above films. Robert's line for the moment is of little interest plus any past research I have done concerning him has usually left me at a dead end.
I hope I have answered your questions and will be pleased to keep in touch with you.
Thanks,
Steve Clendenan
