There is an article "Managing a DNA Project" in the Oct 2003 issue of the
Family Chronicle that gives a good outline of what is required in a DNA Project.
A proposed objective would be:
To determine which John Clendenin was the brother of Elizabeth, James,
Charles, Archibald and Alexander. Daughter and sons of William Glendoning and Anne
Kilpatrick.
I have a detailed genealogy compiled by Paul Dana Clendenin of Renrewshire
Scotland (My Grand Uncle) that lists John Glendoning being born about 1733 in
Dumfriesshire, Scotland. He and his brothers escaped to Ireland after the battle
of Culloden. They changed their name to Clendenin and came to the US with the
exception of Alexander who lived in Killyleagh. John married Margaret Steele
and settled in Little Britain township, Lancaster County, PA. John died on 12
Jun 1796 in Little Britain, PA. A family Bible lists the birth dates of their
ten children. My line goes from David, David Ramsay, Paul and Elisabeth
Clendenin.
I also have a genealogy compiled by Evelyn Jeanette (Miller) Ownbey in 1942.
She states, "The family is of Scotch ancestry, and in and old Bible that was
in the possession of John Waugh Clendenin, of Wichita, Kanas it is recorded
that three brothers, John, Charles and James, born in Dumfries, Scotland, came to
America between 1730 and 1750. One authority says that John and James settled
in PA while Charles went to VA." John (b. 1704; d, 1797) married Janet
Huston. He lived in Pennsborrow township.

Hi there:)
Im in Australia doing a One Name Search on Glendinning/Clendinnen etc..My
mother Being a Clendinnen.
My ggrandfather was Samuel Alfred CLINDINNING(Clendinnen) he came out to
South Australia in 1870s.
Gerald Talbot Clindinning who wrote the Book *House Of Glendonwyn* was Born
in South Australia..He and My Grandfather were like 3rd Cousins.
There is a lot of Contraversy re some information in that book, re
GLENDINNINGS.
Facts are
1...we Have WILLIAM GLENDINNING married to ROSE FISHER in 1713 in Killyleagh
1st Presbyterian Church Co Down..Those records have been cited.
2..Also Baptisms of William(1726)..who went to NC, and several of his male
descendants were named FISHER presumably after his mother, James(1727) Who
spent all his life in Co Down, From whose line mine are
connected...Charles(1730)..Nothing much known about him..
Rose born 1732...Alexander born 1734..
All these baptisms have been located in registers for killyleagh 1st
presbyterian church co Down, as yet the other children..John etc their
baptisms have yet to be found.
Question Remains who is this Roseanne Kirkpatrick??
Apparently there is record in a library at kirkcudbright, in a *Family Tree
of Glendoning Family*..that states
*William Glendoning succeeded to Meggarland and Barcroft in the Parish Of
Borgue in july 1690, He purchased the Estate at Quarterland in Co Down and
died there in 1764.*
That is William Of Kirkudbright, ..who was born circa 1672..Parents..John
Glendinning of Roberton, and Maria Gordon..
They were Presbyterians.
The William at Staplegorton and family were Catholic.
Possibly GTC mixed the 2 Williams up in reference to the William Glendinning
from Co Down
Both Wiliam from Kirkudbright and William Of Staplegorton lines go back to
the one common ancestor NINIAN GLENDONWYN
Also the Charles Clendenin who went to WV was born in early 1700s, not 1730
like the Charles from Co Down, and the other James Glendinning who was born
Circa early 1700s apparently went to USA, wheres The James I have born in Co
Down in 1727 stayed in Co Down
Sure would like to contact some Glendinning researchers in scotland, who
perhaps have access to the library in kirkudbright where this *family tree
of Glendoning Family is, think it would help clear up some misinformation on
net..
Apparently too theres a sequal to the Book *House of Glendonwyn* soo gonna
try check that out further here..Maybe some more light can be shed on this
Glendinning lot.
Regards from South Australia
cathy:)
