==============
R.A. Clendenen, Adam Clendenen, Juliet Farley, Polly {Mary} McNeely, Amanda
Russell & Elmore Clendenen are ALL children of ROBERT & MARTHA CLENDENEN
according to the family records that I have.
This Adam Clendenen was b. abt. 1811. He was listed as a voter in Daviess
Co. MO in 1840 and appears in the 1850 Daviess Co., 27th District, MO.,
Census, Pg. 377.
Adam Clendenen, age 39, Farmer, b. VA
Mary J. age 23, b. VA
Nathan age 1, b. MO
He is also listed in the 1833, 1835 & 1837 Logan Co. VA tax lists.
Daviess Co. MO Marriage Records: 25 Nov. 1847 Adam Clendenen married Mary
Jane Gillilan {the document spells her surname Gillerland}
Between 1 May 1843 and 5 May 1859 Adam Clendenen received at least 4 land
patents in Daviess Co. MO.
It appears that Adam must have died between May 1859 and June 1860, as Mary
Jane Clendenen appears in the 1860 Daviess Co. Gallatin Twp. MO census, pg.
554 with 4 children, James A., 9, Sallie A., 7, Wm. C., 5, & Annie F., 4,.
No Adam or son, Nathan.
Nimrod & Juliet Farley, James & Amanda Russell {Russel}, & Elmore Clendenen
also went to MO between late1840-early 1841.
1860 Platte Co. Marshall twp. MO census:
Pg. 867 {Ancestry.com Image # 18}
Amanda Russel, age 45, b. VA [b. 1815]
Ryland Russel, age 20, b. VA [b. 1840]
Mary J. Russel, age 18, b. MO [b. 1842]
Jas M. Russel, age 12, b. MO [b. 1848]
From Research by Ramona Sadlon:
2 May 1851 James Russell purchased 80 acres of land in Platte Co. MO from
John & Sarah Veneman and on 3 May 1851 he morgaged that same land to John
Smith. {Platte Co. MO, deed book H, pgs. 332 & 432}
6 Aug. 1851 Platte Co. MO., Andrew Russell applied for letters of
administration in Platte Co. MO on his father's estate. He stated that James
died without a will leaving his wife and six children, Andrew, Francis,
Lavince, Ryland, Mary Jane, & James M. Russell {Platte Co. MO Wills &
Administration}
13 Aug. 1851 Platte Co. MO., Andrew Russell appointed Nimrod Farley as his
agent to attend to the estate of his deceased Father James Russel. {Platte
Co. MO Wills & Administration}
1860 Platte Co. Marshall twp. MO census:
Pg. 186 {Ancestry.com Image # 19}
Julia Farley, age 55, b. VA [b. 1805]
Nancy J. Farley, age 22, b. VA [b. 1838]
David Farley, age 19, b. MO [b. 1841]
Alice Farley, age 8, b. MO [b. 1852]
Elmore Clendenen appears in both the 1860 & 1870 Platte Co. MO census and
Juliet Farley is listed in the 1870 Platte Co. MO census living with her
daughter, Alice, and son-in-law Silas Holder.
According to Mary Ann Clendenen's Bible Records, Robert A. Clendenen was born
8 Nov. 1802. I know he died 17 Sept. 1851 in Silver Creek township, Cass Co.
MI. He married Amanda Hinchman [b. 1 April 1809 VA d. 7 Sept. 1886 Silver
Creek township, Cass Co. MI] 27 July 1827 in Pike Co. KY.
How Ancil R. Clendenin fits into all of this is a mystery to me. He
certainly seems to be connected somehow, besides his marriage to Adeline
McNeely. When Robert A. & Amanda {Hinchman} Clendenen moved to Cass Co. MI
in 1848 both Ancil R. & Adaline {McNeely} Clendenen and Henderson & Ellen
Martha {McNeely} Hagar {sister of Adaline McNeely} went with them. All three
couples had daughters born in Cass Co. MI in 1849. The families of Ancil R.
Clendenen and Henderson Hagar returned to Boone Co. by 1850-51 as Henderson
Hager is in the Boone Co. VA census in 1850 and Ancil's 1860 census shows a
son born in Boone Co. VA in Jan. 1851. He is not accounted for in the 1850
Cass Co. MI census.
I have two family lists, one listing Robert & Martha Clendenen and their
children and one from Mary Ann Clendenen's Bible Records listing Robert A. &
Amanda Clendenen and their children. Ancil's name appears on neither, so if
he was the son of one of those Robert Clendenen's, the family certainly
wasn't claiming him. I have been unable to find any documentation connecting
him either in family papers or legal documents.
According to the 1830 Logan Co.,VA census for Robert A. & Amanda and Mary Ann
Clendenen's Bible records they have two children, both under 5 years of age,
[Mary Ann, b. 1828 & Oscar F. b. 1829], Ancil would have been 8 years old
then so he is not accounted for in that census.
The 1840 Logan Co. VA census shows: Robt. A. Clendenen
2 males under 5. [David Kemper, b. 1839, d. 1841 & John Floyd, b. 1837]
2 males 5-10 [Van Buren, b. 1835 & William Issac, b. 1832]
1 male 10-15 [Oscar F. b. 1829]
1 male 20-30
1 male 30-40 [Robert A. b. 1802]
1 female 10-15 [Mary Ann, b. 1828]
1 female 30-40 [Amanda, b. 1809]
Oscar F. was their oldest male child at 11. {He was also my 2nd great
grandfather} Who the other male is between age 20-30 is unknown. He may be
Ancil, although at that time Ancil was only 18 years of age.
The only other connection that I have been able to find between this family
and Ancil R. Clendenin is the fact that in March 1822, nine months before
Ancil was born in Giles Co. VA, Archibald S. Clendenin married Shada B.
Pennington in Giles Co. VA. and up until 1817-20, the Clendenen family lived
in Giles Co. VA.

I will gladly exchange genealogy information if you will kindly do the same.
The following list is from family papers passed down through the family of
Robert A. CLENDENEN of Cass Co. MI.
These records were kept by Sarah Jane CLENDENEN, b. 1861 d. 1949 Cass Co. MI.
She was a granddaughter of Robert A. & Amanda {HINCHMAN} CLENDENEN. The list
I am transcribing from was recopied in the 1940s by my aunt and sent to
Helena CLENDENEN for her genealogical research.
Robert CLENDENEN born Jan. 9th. 1768
Martha "ANDERSON" CLENDENEN born April 4, 1772
Children of Robert Clendenen and Martha (Anderson) Clendenen born in Virginia
Winnie -- unmarried -- died in Virginia

Julia -- married -- Nimrod Farley -- Plat Co. Missouri
Dorcas -- not married -- died in Virginia
Elmer -- went to Missouri and married there
Nancy -- married --Filip Ballard -- lived in Stomer, Ind
John -- married -- Polly McKinnie -- Kanoy W. Virginia
Robert -- married -- Amanda Hinchman -- Michigan
Archibald -- married -- Shadie Pennelton -- Jiles or Jiles Co. VA
Adam -- married -- Sarah Jane Gillens -- Galeton , Davis Co. MO
Amanda -- married -- James Russel -- went to MO
NOTES and CORRECTIONS: I have been able to find documentation for
everyone/everything on this list except the birthdates for Robert & Martha,
the maiden name of Martha and documentation for daughter Winnie.
Juliet Farley appears in the 1860 & 1870 Platte Co. MO census.
I believe "Elmer" is actually ELMORE Clendenen, who is listed in both the
1860 & 1870 Platte Co. MO census and is a female, with a son Robert
Clendenen. I have found no record of a marriage. Elmore Clendenen is listed
as one of the "heirs of Robert Clendenen, dec'd" in an 1838 Logan Co. deed
from Clendenen to Gore. (Book B. pg. 125)
Nancy Clendenen married Phillip Ballard and they lived in St. Omer, Decatur
Co. IN.
Archibald - obviously "Jiles" refers to Giles Co.
John - I believe that "Kanoy" refers to Kanawha Co. WV
Adam Clendenen married MARY JANE GILLILAN 25 Nov. 1848, Daviess Co. MO.
Amanda Russel is also listed in the 1860 Platte Co. MO census.

Jane was born in Cass Co. MI.
Robert A., Mary Ann, Martha Ann and Sarah Jane Clendenen all died in Sept/Oct

Marriage Records of Pike Co. KY indicate that Amanda Hinchman lied about her
age at the time of her marriage. She states that she was 22 years old at the
time of her marriage but all subsequent census records and her headstone show
her year of birth to be 1809.
