I am seeking information on the CLENDENNING and FINCH family's from Lurgan, County Armagh, Ireland. My Henry FINCH born about 1805 came from County Down, so am guessing that Lurgan is right on the border of County Armagh and County Down. Henry also had a brother named William FINCH. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Don,
I took a quick look at the 1920 census index on ancestry.com.
There were 3 Henrys listed for 1920.
The only person close to a match was:
Henry A. Glendenning in Hastings, Dakota Co, MN
he was 48, born in IA, father from Eng, mother from OH, a druggist, store
owner
wife: Florence M, age 47 born in IA, parents from Ireland
dtr: Irene E, 18, born MN
son: Gordon W, 13, born MN
This could be your man. No reward required.

James only know he was married to Elizabeth Jordan in Mt. Ayr Iowa In
approx. 1904They had three children,My Grandfather,Ames Jan17th 1905
Some years later Rosetta and Evelyn Around 1915 Henry left with a
threshing crew to folow the harvest north to Minn.He never returned,He
was declared dead after two years,The truth is he did not die,Some time
in the fifties,He wrote a letter to his sister explaining that he had
been living in Milwaukee Wisconsin all those years and for some reason
wanted to let the family know he was not dead .
Anyone with any information on this man Henry Glendenning Please send

He may even have started a whole other family in the Milwaukee area.

Don Glendenning
Welcome to our new cousin, Peter. His e-mail to the list was fortuitous
as I was reading The Scotch Irish a Social History by James G. Leyburn
last night. I probably would not have thought to send this message to
this list if his e-mail had not made me think about our Clendenins.
I can only say that if anyone has not yet read this book, I highly
recommend the first 27 pages for an understanding of the time period
during which the Clendenin family members migrated from the border area
of Scotland. I have only read that far--but can hardly wait for the
weekend to come so that I can continue. I am very fascinated with the
clear explanations that Mr. Leyburn makes---I recommend it to anyone on
the list who has not read this book. Put it on your Christmas
list....Marsha in WV
my daughter was a Griffith, and she married a DAVIES, not Davis...
My sister is JONES and believe it or not she has to spell her name, I
didn't believe her until I made a call for her, good grief.

A big hello to all Glendinnings, Glendennings etc out there,
I thought I was perhaps one of a dying breed, but having now found this site feel a certain degree of relief that I am not the only person who has to spell their name at hotel receptions, theatres & restaurants.
I am currently living in Lancashire, in the N West of England although I am true blue Scot (only 2.30 back over the border).
I was raised in Glasgow but have a number of long lost relations in the Hawick region of the borders and a number of relatives that settled in the USA , Canada and Australia during and after the wars.
I would be intrested to hear from anyone who perhaps knows of or could put me in touch with the relatives of my grandparents :
Ally Glendinning (Alexander, Sanny), maried to Sarah (Sadie) - with kids Harry (my DAD), Annie & Sandra, all born and raised in the Town Head area of Glasgow.
look forward to hearing from you,
Lots of health, wealth & happiness to all,
Stuart
