I found the book for sale on Bibliofind.com. This one was $40.00. In
addition to this, were other books of interest when I typed in "Clendenin
genealogy". Everyone should check this out.
Ownbey, Evelyn J.: What does America mean to you? History and genealogy. Part
I, Rankin, Clendenin, Huston & genealogical material on the Eckles & Creighs.
Part II, Massie, Hart, Dabney, Barret, Lee & genealogical material on the
allied families of Winston and Chiswell ; (Chicago: no publisher, 1942). ca.
450 pp. in two volumes, (various pagination), softbound.
I saw the book/pamphlet when I was in Tallahassee, maybe someone on the list
has more info, think it was published in the 40s

Carol,
The information on the WWI civilian draft registration came from the
following website. According to the information there civilian draft
registration was held on three days in 1917 and 1918.
http://userdb.rootsweb.com/ww1/draft/index.htm
May I suggest that anyone who is searching for lost family that you try the
following:
www.rootsweb.com Scroll down the page to META Search and click. When the
screen comes up you can enter a surname (don't forget the variant spellings.
Just because you spell the name a certain way does NOT mean that it was
spelled that way in ALL public records). You will be given a list of
databases where the name appears. Look for the one you want. I am now
building a research database on the variant spellings of Clendenin. That was
how I found the information that Commodore Rankin Clendenin died in 1959 in
Butte Co., CA. With the information you get from the database I feel certain
that you could write for a death certificate if you wish an official
document.
Good luck in your searching,
Sharon
These databases are very heavy on California and Texas as well as a few
other states. The information shown there is being taken from official
internet sites.

Just to add some information to this message.
The Mr. Clendening referred to at the bottom of the message is G. T.
Clindinning who compiled the "House of Glendonwyn." Even though Clindinnin
asserts that the man who wrote this will is the same William Clendenning
who
was baptized in 1680 in Langholm Parish, Dumfriesshire, SCT I have been
unable to verify that. I went so far as to hire a researcher in Scotland.
The religious problems in Ireland have, in the past, caused the destruction
of many of these records. So far, I have NOT been able to locate a record
of
this will (so cannot verify the information listed there) nor have I been
able to obtain a copy of it or of death records, burials, burial locations,
etc. in Ireland.

Hi Sharon,
Thanks for sending this out. This was my great Uncle and I have some info on
him.
I knew his son Commodore Rankin JR, who died in Trenton, NJ in 1993. SR died
in
CA in 1959 and was born in TN. His father was Dr. Charles E. Clendenin (my
g-grandfather)
who delivered all his 13 children.
Have been very busy with consulting work. Hope to be able to concentrate on
genealogy
soon.

No, I don't have anything on this Commodore or his family that I could find.
I did notice that there are a number of Rankins in the Jefferson County
records.

You are probably right.
On the same microfilm, I found a will for James Wood who lists a Jane Wood
as a daughter. A.W.T. Clendenen was a witness for the will.

There are a number of Rodgers listed in the Jefferson County records
(no M.C's or Eliza's that I could find, though). The inventory of John
Clendenen includes "Receitt on George Rodgers for the collection of
two hundred gallons of whisky", and includes $450 in notes on John Rogers.
I've updated the 'V233-508' page to reflect these items and
also fixed a few typos.
The Glendennings (of varying spellings) were from Glendonwyn, Parton,
Eskdale, Castle (which was across the river from Eskdale) and Quarterland.
Can anyone tell me where these places are located today?
