I have Archibald Clendennin married to Ann Ewing b.1742. This Archibald
died in 1763 (July 15). Could this be Archibald, Jr.?? He was the one
killed by Indians and Ann was kidnapped. Do you know anything about this
Nancy Ewing?

Hi,
As I was finishing up the parish records I kept thinking about William
Glendinning - the one who was baptized at Langholm in May 1680 and (we
believe) died in Ireland in 1764. I haven't been able to find a marriage
record nor have I been able to find baptismal records for his kids.
I was trying to help my daughter work through a pre-calculus word problem
and kept telling her "you have to go from the known to the unknown." Well,
duh, Sharon! So here's what I think we've got:
1680 May William (son of William) bap , Langholm Parish, Dumfriesshire, SCT
1700 married Roseanne/Anne Kirkpatrick WHERE?
1715 on the losing side of a Jacobite situation
1735 established at Quarterland, Co. Down, Ireland
1764 dies at Quarterland.
1. When and where did he marry Anne Kirkpatrick?
2. Even if they had their first child the same year they married (we'll call
it 1700) they probably would have had a maximum of 7 children by the time he
left to fight against the crown in 1715. "The House of Glendonwyn" says
there were 13 children.
3. Where was Anne during this time he was fighting and wandering before
going to Ireland? A Scottish researcher tells me that if they had property
and apparently he still held the title to Barntalloch Castle at Langholm,
she would have stayed there to hold the property in his name.
4. There's a 20 year span of time between 1715 and 1735 when he is supposed
to have become established in Co. Down. Where was he and what was he doing?
Besides that none of his children -- the oldest presumably no more than 15
in 1715 -- would have been old enough to marry. So were his children married
in Ireland?
5. Even that does not explain why baptismal records don't seem to surface.
Soliciting your opinions and ideas. Have just about come to end of my list
of things to search.
Sharon
Hello everyone,
Well, it's almost as complete as I want it to be. The Scottish Parish
records for Glendinning and the various other spellings are now on the
website. When I searched the database I used Glend* as the keyword with the
asterisk being a wild card. I then also used Glind* just to be sure that I
didn't miss anyone.
There are 288 files in my directory on parishes. Each parish listed had at
least one Glendinning event recorded. Each parish has from one to three
files for it. They are divided by timeframes, ie., pre 1750, 1750-1799, and
1800-1854. I stopped at 1854 as civil registration of vital statistics began
the first of 1855. All the information is taken from the General Record
Office (Edinburgh) vital records index database.
There is also a Scots Spouses list which gives the names of people who
married the Glendinnings, the year the marriage appears in the record and
the parish where it is recorded. The only other thing I am working on is a
similar list for women whose marriage to a Glendinning is implied by the
birth/christening records. However, in this list I am only listing the
women's name and the parish where it is recorded.
I hope this helps someone out there, whether they are with us now or join us
later.

Hi Bob,
No one has been able to prove the lineage of Charles Clendenin's ancestors.
There are period of crucial time where the records are missing. I also have
William (1680-1764) as the son of William of Castle. I have a photocopy of
the original entry for that baptism. It plainly shows that William (1680)
was the 'lawful' son of Willam of Castle. It is believed that William of
Castle married a Margaret Glendinning in 1670.

Can you help me straighten out my records? A GEDCOM posted on the net has the
father of William Glendining (1680 Scotland - 1764 Ireland) as Adam, but
somewhere I had it as another William (1614 - 1682, Dumfries, Scotland).
Which is correct? And while we're at it, has anyone PROVED that the line

Thank you for responding to my inquiry on the Glendenning family from Fauquier Co., Virginia. In your e-mail you mentioned you were aware of individuals researching our family name. Would you be kind enough to send me the e-mail address, I haven't heard from anyone yet.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hello out there:
Does anyone have any info on the James Clendenin family who was in KY very early? I understand he died about 1811 in Rockcastle Co., KY. Wife supposed to be Margaret Anderson. Several ch and thought to have come from Greenbriar Co., WV prior to KY.
Anything would be helpful. I've been told a "Margaret Clendenin was the wife of a Stephen Parnell" Stephen was in RW from MD and deserted 1780. He's in KY prior to 1800.
Any help appreciated,
Joye
well I do know Will Rogers is Native American too... I found a record about
him in the Indian commission.. His house is a museum now...

Hi all: Does anyone have the line on Will Rogers the humorist. I heard that
he put a marker of Ann McSwain Clendennin Rogers grave in Lewisburg W.Va.,
because of his relationship to her.
Thanks

Steve,
You may be interested to know that while I was preparing the Scottish parish
records to be posted on-line I ran across a French Glendining. As I am
sitting here, I swear that's the truth.

Hi
I'm beginning to think that all of you went on vacation in July and August
as there is very little traffic on this list.
If that is the case I hope you all had a very good time. If you have quit
posting to this list for any reason that involves me, I do not know what it
is. If you will send me a personal email we'll work out the problem.
I'm continuing to input the birth and marriage records from Scotland onto
the website. It won't be posted yet for a while as it is a tedious,
time-consuming project. However, I will let you know.
Also I noticed in the GED file that there seems to be problems linking to
individuals who I know were loaded into the file. Will check that out and
see if I can get it fixed.
