Beginning about March 1st, possibly a few days later, the LDS Church
will
release a beta test of Family Search on the Internet for about a 3 week
trial basis at: http://www.familysearch.org (Keep checking until they
actually have it up and running.)
They would like everyone to try it out and respond! After the short
beta
testing they will take it off the Internet in order to fix any
problems.

Hello
I wanted to report some new research that I have been working on and maybe
some of you who live in the Maryland area could do some more checking on. It
seems there was Glendenning's living in America at a much earlier date than
we all thought. I found a family of CLANDENING, John 1688/10/07 IKL
b to George & Jeane
CLANDENING, Robert 1690/11/07 IKL b to George & Jane
CLANDENING, Samuel 1693/05/16 IKL b to George & Jane
The IKL stands for Liber in Somerset County records
I also have found George Glandenning, 1686 Cattle marks in Somerset Co. I
assume this is the father George. The John above is to young to be my John
of King George Co. Va. It is possible my John was brother to the father
George.
I think I have found John also in MD in 22nd May, 1686. He is a testor for
a will. I think this is him because I also find William Grant living in the
area. One of John's daughters married a William Grant. If this is true it
disproves the information that I received saying he was transported to
America as a prisioner in 1688.
It seems likely to me that some of you might be from this family of George
and Jane on down the family tree. Any one willing to do research in
Maryland?
I have also found some proof linking the Fauquier family to King George
Co.Va., A deed in King George Co. in 1789. George Glendenning stateing he is
of Fauquier Co. This George sold land on Muddy Creek in King George Co. In
the Fauquier taxes he lives beside John off and on from 1786 till 1800.One
of George's daughters Elizabeth married Joseph Ritenour and also moved to
Taylor Co. WV.This is the area that George, John's son moved to. I do not
have proof that the John and George of Fauquier were the same as John and
George of King George but they were some how part of that family.
I was also wondering if anyone knew who this Glendening is? William C.
Glendenning b.June 25,1834 in Fredrick Co. Va married Virginia Jones 1869 in
Martinsburg WV. He was son of Andrew and Elizabeth. He applied for a Army
pension in 1899 and resided in Bunker Hill WV.At the time of his enlistment
he was living in Berkeley Co.WV I can not place him in my family.

Hi, no I am not taking Adam from Charles yet. I still have no proof either way
if he is a son of Charles or not. For the time being, I am leaving him there
until more research can be completed.
I have been studying the letter and one thing that confuses me is the fact
that Adam Stephen, the comm. of this company sent advertisements thru
Pennsylvania for John and Adam. It is my understanding, and please anyone
correct me if I am wrong as I am not an expert on this, is that when someone
deserted a reward or bounty of 2 shillings was place on them and
advertisements were sent out.
If this was the Adam Clendenin, born 1740 in Augusta, then why didn't Capt.
Stephen post the advertisements in Virginia instead of Pennsylvania. there
was an Adam born 1739 in PA also and this could be him. So, that is where it
stands.
On Adam Clendenin, born 1740 in Augusta, I really don't care who his parents
are. I just want to find them. I know a lot of folks will be upset if he
isn't a son of Charles but to me I just want him to have a place to hang his
hat.
So, this is what the desc. of Adam should be working on, finding the correct
parents. Between the 10 of us desc. from him we should be able to find
something, what we need are his military records, if they are any.

Could "inlisted...by" equate to the modern "recruited...by"? In
this case they would have deserted just after "inlisting!" Rapscallions!

Hi everyone, hope all is well!
>From the George Washington Papers at the Library of Congress, I found this.
Adam Stephen to George Washington, July 14, 1758
Camp at Raestown, July 14, 1758
Sir, I wrote yesterday, intended by Capt. Botomworth but was out when he sent
off--
Nothing new Since, only two men have deserted Viz John Clandinnon a damnable
tall fellow & Adam Clandinnon his brother inlisted lately by Lt. Charles
Smith.
That is not all of the letter but the important stuff. My questions are:
1. Where was Camp Raestown in 1758, was it in Botetourt, Virginia?
2. Did John and Adam desert or did they just inlist. A little confusing, here.
3. I take it that John Clendenin wasn't just a tall fellow but a damn tall
fellow, must have been a very large Clendenin.
4. And his statement that Adam and John are brothers, there was only one Adam
Clendenin that I know of in Virginia at this time, so if Adam and John are
brothers then I guess we can remove Adam as the son of Charles.
I still haven't found Adam in any muster roll, but if you do you are in luck,
they give a physical description of the gentleman on this web page. Great
stuff here!

Hi Sharon, Is Charles Clendinen the Charles that married Nancy Denney in
1835 in Monroe Co., IN? Or if related to that line I would appreciate a
copy of that report you offered. Thank you very much for being so
helpful.

Hi Sharon!
I'd love to have the Charles Clendenin report and can take attachments.
I was so sorry to hear about your father. I lost my dad 10 years ago and
still miss him. Your father left a legacy in you, his daughter, and you are a
real credit to his memory.
