Hi listers,
I can't recall if I sent this before. Very interesting, you may want to
take a look.

This site was created by the U.S. Army Military History Institute
and it is a searchable database of their Special Collections.
Using this database you can see if a photograph exists of your
Civil War ancestor. There were two records for Melton.
Just enter the surname you're searching and the results page will
give any photos of any soldier with that surname, along with (if
known) his regiment.
Next, you can send an e-mail with the photo ID's that you're
interested in. The Army will then send you (for free) a
photocopy of the picture, along with instructions on ordering a
duplicate photo.
An 8x10 photo costs $10.00. No more then ten photos will
be produced for any one customer per year.

Joanne,
I am checking my files for Margaret... I have lots of info on several
branches of Clendenin's in WV... My hubby is a Clendenen from WV.. His line
stems off of James A. Clendenin and Rebecca Lewis Clendenin... Not sure who
his father is yet.. but we think it was a Charles, son of Alexander
Clendenin. I will keep you in touch on this line later...

This may be helpful for all of you!
In 1752 the calendar was changed to the current system which uses January as
the beginning of the year instead of March, so all dates during that time
period are double dated 1751/1752.
You also need to remember to enter the dates into your records exactly as you
see them, not the way you want them to appear under the current system. It
will foul you up if you want to go back and review the original date in the
records if you change them. Therefore, DO NOT CHANGE THE DATES. Leave them
alone.
The dates you have written would be correct for the time period.
March is the first month
April is the second month
May is the third month
June is the fourth month
July is the fifth month
August is the sixth month
September is the seventh month
October is the eighth month
November is the ninth month
December is the 10th month
January is the 11th month
February is the 12th month
See how simple it really is. Not complicated at all.

It makes me nervous when I see list members sending posts that give CURRENT
(say, post 1925) information, like their birthdates, their children's names,
and their mothers' maiden names.
Certainly, we are all proud of our immediate families. And because we love
them so much, we need to do all we can to protect them.
It has taken my cousin YEARS to extricate herself from credit card fraud. Not
only did she feel violated when her identity was stolen, but she has seen her
credit rating damaged. Not to mention all the time spent in writing letters
and making phone calls.
And I don't even want to think about the physical danger that might come to
someone from a stalker who surfs the Internet looking for victims.
In order to subscribe to this, or any other, mailing list, a person does not
need to prove that he/she is a genealogist, or even a law-abiding citizen.
So ... please ... let's use a little caution and common sense.

I wanted to add this... I found two W. S. Clendenin's . There is a question
on whether this is the same W. S. Clendenin that married two different wifes.
Or if these are 2 different W. S. Clendenin...

There was a W. S. Clendenin who was a Justice of the Peace for Jackson

In the marriage record for Jackson county, I found William S. Clendenin

Dear all,
As part of the Highland Homecomings project I am writing a paper on the
theme of the internet and genealogy: in effect, how people use the
internet to 'publish' and research their family histories. If you have
a family history web site or have seen some good examples of other
people's genealogy web sites, I would be very grateful if you could
forward the relevant URL(s) to me. Likewise, if you have any particular
thoughts about the role of the internet in maintaining senses of
'Scottishness' then I would love to hear from you.
Either send your replies to the list or to me directly at
homecomings(a)scotweb.org
For those that don't know, the Highland Homecomings project has been set
up to examine journeys made by people of Scottish descent throughout the
world to the 'old country'. Full details, including on-line
questionnaire, articles, etc, are available at
http://www.scotweb.org/homecomings The project is based at the Highland
Folk Museum in Kingussie in the Central Highlands.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Paul Basu.

I am looking for information on a Margaret Clendenin b. 1905 in WV. She
married Milton O. Cruise in Kanawha Co. 1924 & they lived in Williamson,
Mingo Co. WV until they divorced between 1927-1929. Family members say
she remarried and moved to Cabin Creek with her daughter, Eleanor. She
died some time between 1929 & 1934.
I have searched records in WV & have been unable to come up with a
marriage record which would be the correct date time. The only marriage
I came up with was in Cabell Co., WV ... Margaret E. Clendenin age 20 b.
Fayette Co., WV. & Bedford R. Wilson age 22 b. Kanawha Co., WV. date of
marriage 15 May 1927, & this was probably not the right Margaret, as her
daughter by M. O. Crews wasn't born until August 1927.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I realize you haven't seen much of anything new on the Clendinen website
lately. But I want to reassure you that I am working on it. And we are
getting wider circulation -- I've seen the name William Glendinning so much
lately as senders of email I am beginning to consider it an omen that a
breakthrough is near.
At any rate, I am still placing names, dates, and places into the database
and will convert again to html very shortly (probably within the next week).
The site was getting a little cluttered but I am revamping it. I hope it
will be easier to use when I am finished. In the meantime it remains the
same.
