Thanks for the welcome. Yes, I am at Mercer - I work in the
Physics/Earth Science department. I think Tift got sold recently and is
something else now - although I'm not sure what.
The Clendennin clan that I come from is living in/around Detroit, MI
now. I need to do some digging on and find out how far back any of them
knows where they came from. I'll let the list know what I find.

Ken,
welcome to the list, back in the old days lots of folks could not read/write,

Hello - I am new to this list - and somewhat amazed that it exists. My
name is Ken Jones. I was adopted at birth but have traced down my birth
parents in recent years. My father's last name is Clendennin - thus
making this part of my true lineage. I was wondering how this version
of the name is related to the other similarly spelled versions I am
seeing on this list. The path I took to find this list led me to
believe that they are closely related. Can anyone shed some light on
this for a "beginner". Also, does anyone have information regarding the
Clendennin's that have settled around the Detroit, Michigan area???
Any help or information would be deeply appreciated.
thanks,
Ken Jones

were in the Philadelphia area in 1780 when their daughter Nancy Ann was
born. Does this fit into your family? Thanks!
Good morning, everyone,
I need some assistance here. I have two separate lists of children for
William and Margaret, one longer than the other. Is there a descendant out
there who has the definitive list? Like from a will or census of something?
Thanks,

Hello all:
This is the info I have on the Clendenin family I am connected to. I
must say that alot of this info is from family members and is not
verified. I have taken some off gravestones in the area and some obits
and used the census records.
Carrie Melissa Clendenin was my GGrandmother she was born July 22, 1875
in Winterset, Iowa and died September 25, 1963 in Three Rivers, MI. She
married a Wellington Aaron Miller of Cass County Michigan.
Carrie's Obit listed James Clendenin as her father born in Canada.
Eunice Lease Clendenin was listed as her Mother. She was also listed as
having a half brother James Clendenin of Three Rivers MI at the time of
her death. It said she was the youngest of ten children.
James Clendenin and Ruth Clendenin appear in the 1860 Census of Newberg
Township MI.. They are listed as 39 and 37. There children at this
time are listed as: H.N.T. male 17 born in Canada, E.E. female 12 born
in Canada, Lydia A. 10 born in Canada, S.L. male 9 born in Canada, M.M.
female 6 born in Canada, V.V. female 10/12 ? born in Michigan. In 1870
they added three children Abraham 7 born in MI, Rosencranz 5 born in MI,
Grant 3 born in MI.
Carrie Clendenin's marriage certificate gave her parents as William
Clendenin but not a Mother's name.
As you can see I have alot of blanks and discrepancies! Does anyone on
the list have any links to this family? Help!
There are many of the above mentioned Clendenin's buried in Cass County
Poe Cemetary in MI.
Diane from MI
Hello all,
I have had a request from one our new subscribers asking how to search past
messages. Please use the following URL. When the screen comes up be sure to
spell the name Clendinen. The archives for 1998 are available but since we
didn't start until April of this year that's all there would be anyway.

Good luck.
Hi guys, would someone please send me the web page on the Clendenins that

Thanks, Tom, for your further illumination. It is my understanding from the
original message that all attachments would be blocked. However, in the
question-answer session that followed, it turns out that plain text should
get through. This simply means that the information file has to be saved as
ASCII (Dos) Text. It can then be attached.
Cutting and pasting into the body of a message is not considered an
attachment.

One question is, what does the Rootsweb listserver consider an attachment.
There are a number of clearly defined ways to send attached files
that identify themselves by format (MIME, uuencode, BinHex, and base64
come to mind). Which attachment method you use depends on what software
you use and how it is configured, and in many cases users may not
know how their messages are being sent.
However, plain text data should not be read as an attachment. It should
be possible to take a plain text document and do a copy and paste
into a message in your e-mail program. So if you want to send out
a few pages worth of family info that is currently in MS Word, do
a save as...text only (ASCII text) then open the text only document
in Word, copy the text, and paste into an E-mail you are composing.
Unless Rootsweb also rejects messages that are longer than a specified
limit, this should work. (The listserv has no way of knowing that
you pasted the text in instead of typing it.)
If on the other hand you attach the file, even if it is plain text, it will
likely be coded in such a way that Rootsweb rejects it.
If this is unclear please e-mail me. I guess my point is that rootsweb's
prohibition against attachments (which is more designed to catch spam,
dirty pictures, entire GEDCOMs, and so on) will probably not affect the
kinds of info we have been passing around.

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to pass this along to all of you. Rootsweb will no longer accept
messages which have been address to the List or Digest and which have
attachments. There will be an automatic message which will be returned to
you with a copy to me if you try to send an attachment with a message to the
list or digest.
Perhaps the best way to do this if you have a lot of information and you
don't want to retype in the body of a message, is to send a message
indicating what type/kind of information you have and invite responses from
list members who would like to have a copy. There is NO prohibition against
sending attachments with messages so long as it does not go through the
list.
I hope this is clear.

Hi,
Just wanted to give you some new statistics: 62 on the mailing list + 24 on
the digest list as of this morning.
About the web page: When I went out of town on business for the past two
weeks, I downloaded the files from my web page builder to take along and
work on. I got some new information entered, but when I uploaded it, it
messed up all the file names. It is going to take me some time to get this
stuff straight again. Please be patient.
Still need information on your line if you don't find it on the webpage and
you haven't already sent it to me.
New subscribers! Send the list a posting telling us who you are looking for.
I know that traffic on this list hasn't been real heavy lately but it will
surely pick up if you who are new will let us know about your search.
Am also experiencing some health problems; and my boss expects me to work 8
hours a day. Hanging in there!

I am working on the family of Francis COULTER (1771-1846) and Nancy
GLENDENNING (d 1873). His parents are believed to have been WALTER
COULTER (COLTHERD) and ELIZABETH RAY. Francis and Nancy are believed to
have come from Hawick, Scotland. They settled in the Town of Bovina,
Delaware County, NY in the early 1800s. She is supposed to have had two
brothers, James and William GLENDENNING. At least one of them and maybe
both also settled in Delaware County.
Any ideas?

Hello everyone. Thought I would post my Clendennen line again for all the new
people that have subscribed to this site. My ancestor was James Monroe
CLENDENNEN, b. 1831 Missouri, county unknown. I'll say right off that I do
not connect to the William Clendennen (son of James, son of Charles of VA) and
Ellenor Fowler line from Cole County, Missouri. Their sons had sons named
James, but not middle name Monroe. There were other Clendennens in Missouri
besides this line. I found a John Clendenen in Clay Co., Missouri in 1840, but
could not find him in 1850. Needless to say, I have searched census records of
several states in 1850 looking for my ancestor, but cannot find him - my
proverbial brick wall. If anyone can help me break thru, I have info on over
400 descendants I could share. Other lines I research are CAVE, REEVES,
BUCKNER, RIGGS, & DAVIS, plus I have info on other lines researched by my
mother and mom-in-law that includes NORTHINGTON, PONDER, KEY, KUYKENDALL,
KIRBY, AND CHANCE.
Here's my line:
1. James Monroe Clendennen b. 1831 MO, m. abt 1858, d. 1903-4 Robertson Co, TX
+Lucy Ann Cave b. 1842 MISS, d. 1903-4 Robertson Co., TX
Children:
William W. Clendennen b. 1859 Milam Co., TX d. 1884
+ Amanda Cotton
John Berry Clendennen b. 1862 Milam Co. d. 1930's Limestone Co.
+ Mary Ella Cotton
James W. Clendennen b. 1871 Milam Co.
Nancy Elizabeth Clendennen b. 1874 Milam Co. d. Houston, TX
+ Henry Brown
Missouri Jane Clendennen b. 1877 Milam Co. d.1955 Thornton, Limestone
