Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

This is the correct spelling for the list, several are from Mary, you do know
she had some illegitimate children?

If you will remember, about a week ago I added GenConnect Boards for
queries, wills, deeds, and bible records to the Clendinen home page. I also
told you that you would be able to enter information yourself only on the
query board.
The press of my responsibilities to other things helped me decide to open up
the will, deed, and bible record boards. I have made those changes and they
should be in effect now.
PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! Document the information you input. If you are, for
example, inputting a will please do it like this:
Will of John Clendennin, Mason Co., WV, Book 1, page 400, 1865
I, John.......
If the document you have is from an estate settlement rather than a will, it
can also go on this board. Just change the way you list it to Estate
Settlement of John Clendennin or Administrators Bond, Estate of John
Clendennin.
Thank you for your cooperation. I appreciate your assistance. I will
continue to prepare the various family line information you have sent to be
converted to HTML to be included on the website.
Thanks again and I hope everyone has a prosperous New Year.

Hello Cousins!
I have found a picture among the family archives that was taken in San Jose,
California, probably before 1900, perhaps earlier. In my grandmother's
handwriting is the name "Uncle Louis Clendenen." My grandmother had a brother
named "Lewis" but it is not he. I can't identify him in the family and wonder
if he is from the George Washington Clendenen line. He could be a son of one
of Fleming's brothers also. Does anyone know who this fellow is? I'd be
happy to have a copy made and send it to anyone who might be related. A
register report of two generations prior to my grandmother's follows:
1. Thomas Jefferson CLENDENEN. Born About 1771 in Augusta County, Virginia.
Died Before 14 Aug 1833 in Bourbon County, Kentucky.
He married Susanah REYNOLDS, daughter of Anthony James REYNOLDS & Margaret
Mary FLEMING, 6 Jun 1799 in Clark County, Kentucky. Born 7 Sep 1774 in
Pennsylvania. Died Before May 1866 in Bourbon County, Kentucky. Buried in
Bourbon County, Kentucky.

"Uncle Louis" could be a son of John Clendenen, Fleming's son. I still have a
lot of research to do on this family, but this picture intrigues me. He's a
rather fearsome looking fellow!
Merry Christmas to all of you and may you have a happy and prosperous New
Year.

I hope this will still be considered for the roll call.
My line is as follows:
James Clendenin and Margaret Anderson
John Clendenin and Mary Sympson
James Clendenin and Margaret Heard
John Hurd Clendenin and Mary Elizabeth Vickers
Sarah Jane Clendenin and Henry Gilbreath, who were my great grandparents.
Sorry I don't have time to look up dates, documentation, etc. However this
line is shared by several others in the group, so it is well known. My great
grandmother Sarah Jane was the sister of Ken Bower's ancestor Wm. Harvey
Clendenin.
I've been using Reunion, but I have bought The Master Genealogist. I have not
installed it yet. I think I'm a little afraid of what might happen as I try
to transfer data.

Hi,
If you find that you've got a couple of dollars in the checking account
after Christmas, would you consider sending a donation to Rootsweb?
$12 is all it costs to be a member. That's one dollar per month. About 3
cents per day.
Why am I asking? Recently Palladium became a commercial sponsor of Rootsweb
which involved some money flowing from Palladium to Rootsweb that has
allowed us to have the webspace we have, to have better servers, faster
servers, etc.
Palladium has been bought out by Broderbund. And the check that was supposed
to show from Palladium has not arrived. Brian and Karen Isaacson Leverich,
the gurus who conceived and birthed Rootsweb have had to take out a personal
loan of $25,000 to keep us afloat for a while longer. Hopefully this will
only be until Broderbund strokes the check the way they are supposed to.
So, as I said if there's a little left over will you please consider a
donation to Rootsweb. http://www.rootsweb.com will take you to their home
site and will provide you with information about becoming a member.
Thanks,
Sharon
Okay !!!!!!! Now you can SEE the query and will buttons. Also, Honey, I
changed from Rachel to Esther. Not sure where my brain was the day I typed
that.
Now that things are running normally again I can get back to entering data.
Sharon
This one came in on time. I'm just a little slow getting it forwarded. Mary
Louise, please be sure to count Georgeanne in. Thanks.

Hi,
I just wanted to let you know that part of my new structure for the
Clendinen Home page is in place. There are some obvious changes which you
will notice as soon as you visit. But I'm also having some trouble getting
some graphic images to appear.... so, when you arrive at the two blank
buttons in the middle of the first page the blank on the left of the two is
queries and the one on the right is wills.
What does this mean? GenConnect which operates bulletin boards graciously
opened up their boards to Family Associations. I applied and was given
boards for Bible Records, Deeds, Queries, and Wills.
The blank buttons will work so be sure to give them a try. Queries, the
first blank one, will take you to a page where you will click on another
button. This will take you to a form page where you can input your own
queries. No more sending them to me and waiting until I get them up on the
page.
The buttons for Bible Records, Deeds, and Wills will each take you to a page
where you can click on the button to view the messages posted there but you
can not input the information yourself. In each case, specific instructions
telling you what kind of information and how it should be arranged is given
to you.
I am inputting old queries, bible records, deeds, and wills which I already
have on hand into these various boards. Please give me until Christmas Day,
at least, to get those things input. But go ahead and take a look around.
Now if I could just get those images to come up ......
Sharon

Many thanks to Sharon and Mary Louise for all their efforts.
I use Ultimate Family Tree. Also have Family Tree Maker, so that I can receive
files anyone cares to send me in that format.
MARGARET GLENDENNING/CLENDENIN was born about 1762, as was her husband STEPHEN
PARNELL. Stephen enlisted in the Revolutionary forces in Anne Arundel Co, MD,
in 1778. He was wounded and failed to return from a furlough in May 1880. It
is thought that Margaret and Stephen married about this time. Family tradition
says that the first half of their 10 children were born in VA, the second half
in KY. The first location I have for them during their marriage is from the
1800 Reconstructed US Census (Tax List) of Madison County, Kentucky.
They gave their children the usual names: Mary/Polly, Joshua, James, Thomas,
Sally, William, Issiac, Andrew, Margaret, Martha.

Hi everyone! This is basically a repeat of my first message to the list
as I haven't had time for any research recently! Season's greetings to
you all...
By way of introduction: my mother, Martha Clindinning McComish is doing
some research on family history and would welcome contact from any >>
long-lost cousins around the world. Some basics below, beginning with
>> her generation:
1. Martha Clindinning McComish (1924- ;born Belfast N.Ireland; lives
Carickfergus NI)
2. Sarah Clindinning (sister to (1); 1926- ;details as (1))
3. Wesley Clindinning (brother to (1); 1934- ;Belfast; Toronto, Canada)
4. Garland Clindinning (brother to (1); died in infancy ca. late 1920s)
5. William Clindinning (father to (1); 1892-1954; spent all his life in
Belfast area )
6. Agnes Smith Clindinning (mother to (1); 1892-1977; b. Larne NI, d.
Belfast)
7. Hamilton Clindinning (brother to (5); ca 1890-?; emigrated to
Canada)
note: 5 & 6 were from a family of 11, I think! There may be four or
five generations of their descendants in N.America- there are few in
Britain or Ireland.
8. Noreen Clindinning Carr (daughter to (3); 1964- ;born Toronto, now
living San Diego, California)
9. Claire Clindinning Fitzpatrick (daughter to (3); 1966-; lives
Toronto)
10. Sharon Clindinning (daughter to (3); 1968- ;lives Toronto)
and finally for the moment, yours truly
11. William Clindinning McComish (son to (1); 1962- ;born Belfast, lives
London England)
My mother recently replied to an advertisement in the 'Belfast
Telegraph' from one Wallace Inkerman Clendenning of Vancouver BC,
Canada.
Look forward to hearing from you! I will correct any factual errors in
a future post. Ciao,
>>

I missed the message about this, so I hope I'm doing this right.
I am working on the family of Francis COULTER (1771-1846) and Nancy
GLENDENNING (d 1873). His parents are believed to have been WALTER
COULTER (COLTHERD) and ELIZABETH RAY. Francis and Nancy are believed to
have come from Hawick, Scotland. They settled in the Town of Bovina,
Delaware County, NY in the early 1800s. Nancy is supposed to have had
two brothers, James and William GLENDENNING. At least one of them and
maybe both also settled in Delaware County. Would be interested in
tracing any of these Glendenning connections in Delaware County.
My software of choice is Ancestor Quest.

I think Debby may have meant Logan, VA, the town, rather than Logan the
county.
Also, the info we have regarding Alexander McNeely and Mary Clendenen's
marriage date of 8-4-1821 was supposed to have been taken from a copy of
Alexander McNeely's bible.
We found a reference in a book that mentioned that Alexander may have
been one of the first births in what is now the town of Logan, WV.
Don't know how true this is, but thought I'd pass it along if anyone
would want to dig some more.
I hope to do some more digging over the holidays and try to piece some
more stuff together, but will just have to see how much time I have to
work on it.
Take care!
Ruth
