UNVEILING OF CLENDENEN CEMETERY PLAQUE, MARKHAM, ONTARIO, CANADA
At Williamson Road at Miramar Drive. Williamson Road is the first street
east of Main Street Markham Village (or Highway 48), on the north side of
16th Avenue.
This site sits on a small portion of Lot 18, Concession 8 of which the Crown
granted Patent to John Clendenen in 1803 after settlement duties had been
performed. It is believed that John and his wife Magdalene and some the
family rest here. Five markers survive.
Anyone interested that can make this event is welcome to attend the
dedication of this historical marker to commemorate one of Markham's
earliest settler families. The work of Markham Officials in making it
possible to hold the Clendenen plaque unveiling is appreciated. We give many
thanks to the Ontario Genealogical Society and the Ontario Historical
Society who launched the suit to save this historic site.
The local councillor has suggested that after the plaque unveiling, we go to
the museum for a reception to allow family members to get together, warm up
(if it's cold) and have a coffee, etc. He thought it would be interesting
if family members could bring photos and other items to show each other, and
the museum could take some pictures for the archives.
Hello,
More information is coming in about the world-wide gathering of the clans to be held in Edinburgh 25-26 Jul 2009.
Would you please contact me letting me know what your plans might be?
I just learned that Clan Douglas Society of North America has decided to participate. If you are considering it may I suggest you contact Jim Douglas at this email address: jimdouglas_texas(a)yahoo.com.
If this is the first you have heard of The Gathering 2009 try the website: www.thegathering2009.com

Here is a web site that I found, it is called Find A Grave. Can go to www.findagrave.com and put in name you are looking for, it might be in there. If it is not listed you can ask to find grave or tombstone. This is an all volunteer site, and if you have any information about graves and/or pictures of tombstones you can add them for someone else. There are 18 million listings of graves on this web site, it is huge.
