What is your new info? can you put a chart on the list?
Thanks for writing,
Sandy in Florida
I will gladly exchange family history if you will do the same.
Please do not send jokes, virus warnings, chain letters or attachments.
Hello,
How many of you have uploaded gedcoms to the WorldConnect project?
How many of you have updated those gedcoms based on additional information that has come to light?
How many of your old gedcoms have been cited in new compilations uploaded by other people?
This is how erroneous information becomes chiselled in stone.
I'm not going to name names but I just spent some time going through the WorldConnect project and found that there are 1,375 databases which contain the name Clendenin.
Any guesses how many of them are wrong? I saw one that listed 30 children for Charles Clendenin. Puhleeze!
Sharon
This is a follow-up email which I received today.

Hi,
You request the URL for the website mentioned in my letter. It is www.rootsweb.com. She is Constance Bonnette: 2768746, Roots & Wings.
I have been researching my family since 1972, have written five books of my research, but am new to this internet thing. I hope you have no trouble locating this website.
I would like to have my original letter printed on the Archives-L site to see what conclusions you have reached and to see what other researchers have to say.
My daughter and I do not live near each other, so I have to mail my letter to be e-mailed and she must mail your answer to me.

Folks,
I was requested to make sure that this message was sent to the Archives so I am forwarding it to the list to ensure that it is.
I also checked out the site on Rootsweb which she referred to. This is a WorldConnect gedcom which has been uploaded by a woman named Constance Bonnette. Her only references are other gedcoms which apparently have been uploaded to WorldConnect.
I did check the entry for Charles Clendenin, my ancestor, and found that she had listed 30 (thirty) children for him. Some are duplicates of one another, others are not proven, and still others are disproved.
Take the WorldConnect for what it's worth. I already have issues with certain portions of The House of Glendonwyn as I am sure you all know by now.

Subject: John Clendenin 1704-1797 of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania
Dear Sharon,
My daughter is sending this to you because I do not have e-mail.
I am descended from John Glendenin (1704-1797) of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, through his daughter, Mary, who married Samuel Calhoun.
Everyone seems to be trying to fit this family into neat little niches suggested by The House of Glendonwyn, even though the "at castle" information is no longer considered valid. Checking the dates shows other possibilities.
John was supposedly born c. 1704, which seems an appropriate birth year for a man whose oldest child was born in 1724. His birthplace is said to have been Dumfries, Scotland, and his father, William Glendinning of Quarterland County, Down, Ireland.
William of Quarterland is thought to have been born in Dumfries (1673-1680), which seems an appropriate birth year for a man whose son was born in 1704 -- from a first marriage.
William of Quarterland married Rose Fisher in 1713 (he was about 35 years old), so was she a second wife who bore William's second family? A previous marriage in William's younger years is possible. Could William have:
A. Married first in Scotland c. 1700?
B. Had a son, John, born c. 1704 in Scotland (and other children)?
C. Become a widower between c. 1704-1713?
D. Purchased Quarterland by 1713?
E. Married Rose Fisher in Killyleagh in January 1713?
What a hoot of his first wife(?) was Roseanne Kirkpatrick!
Back to John born c. 1704. His oldest known child is listed as born c. 1724 -- Mary, my ancestor -- when he was about 20 years old. Were Mary and some of her siblings born in Ireland? If so, he must have been married there. Could he have married Janet Huston in Ireland?
The first record I have of him in early Pennsylvania is in 1743, when he signed a petition in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
A site on Rootsweb lists John's first wife and mom of several of his children as Hanna (last name unknown). if this is so, could she, instead, be Miss Hanna, related to the Mr. Hanna who married Jean Glendinning in County Down? I have tried to contact the author of this website, and my message was not accepted. The references on this website are below, but I am unable to check them.
1. Title: 2541990. Ged Repository: Call Number: Media: Other
2. Title v33t1001.ftw. Repository: Call Number: Media: Book
3. Title 1918950. Ged Repository: Call Number: Media: Book
On this website, John's second wife and mother of the children born after 1744 is listed as Janet Huston. If this is so, could she have been a much younger woman than previously suspected? Reference on this site is the same as #1 above.
I am able to monitor Rootsweb Archives Clendenin-L for comments and will be happy to answer letters by regular mail.

NOW SEARCH OVER 600 BOOKS WHICH THE FAMILY HISTORY
LIBRARY HAS ONLINE.
In Sept. 2005, the LDS Family History Library announced that it has begun
the process of digitizing & making available on the Internet ALL of the
Family History books in their collection. At that time, about 5000 books
were available, and they were adding about 100 titles a week. Books out of
copyright are being done first.
The images of these Family History books are actually being stored on the
electronic servers at Brigham Young University. By going directly to the
BYU website to view the images, you are able to full-text searches on each
book. You can now locate the small entry on your elusive grandpa that is
buried in one of the books that you would otherwise never thought to look
at before.
HOW TO FIND THE DIGITIZED IMAGES
Go to the website of the Harold B. Lee Library at BYU at:
On their home page follow the links
"Find Other Materials/
Then: "Electronic/
Then: "On Line Collections at BYU."
Click on the "Text Collections" tab & select the
"Family History Archive" from the list of collections that are displayed.
You would then normally want to use the "Search All" feature with the
"Search All Text" box checked, although the "Advanced Search" will allow
very high-powered searches that will allow certain phrases to be searched
for & other words to be used to exclude potential hits.
As you make selections from the "hits" that are displayed, you will need to
use the "Click Here To View Item" button near the top of the screen to
display the actual image of the page. You can page through the entire
document using the index displayed on the left side of the screen. Each
page may be printed after being viewed. One interesting sidelight is, when
you are at the first web page for the Family History Archive, click on the
"Browse the Collection" button. This will display every Family History book
that has been digitized and is available in the collection. You can scroll
through this list much the same as if you were walking up & down the stacks
at the library."
---------------------------
When you first log onto: <http://www.lib.byu.edu/>http://www.lib.byu.edu/
there are loads of other links to check out, too, as well as more links on
2nd page as well. Also, the "Text Collections" page lists lots of other
books,sources and resources!
Hi, Sharon,
I hope I'm doing the correct thing to continue my Clendenin Digest :>)
Thank you for all your help -- I really appreciate all that you do!

Hi,
Okay, I've been through the 22 printed pages of instructions on how this list should be administered. There are a few things I need to tell you.
Please SAVE this email for future reference.
1. It is no longer necessary to to use the following address to post a message: Clendenin-L(a)rootsweb.com. Please change your address book to read Clendenin(a)rootsweb.com.
2. If you are subscribed in the digest mode and wish to post a message please use the above address.
3. If you are subscribed in the digest mode and wish to continue to receive the emails in the same format to which you are accustomed, you MUST send me an email telling me that. The default for the new digests is for each message in the digest to show as one long continuous list of messages. It is sent out in text format.
4. If you wish to unsubscribe (or subscribe for that matter) you must type the word "unsubscribe/subscribe"--which ever is applicable--in both the subject line and the body of the message.
5. If you are going on vacation we now have a "no mail" mode. But you must contact me so that I can set the parameters for you.
Please use my personal address of SharonBryant(a)cox.net for all instructions regarding your subscription to the list.
I hope the transition is a smooth one for you. These lists migrated to their new server about three days ago but it seems they are still working out some bugs. If you have any problems, please contact me at the address above and we will try to "unbug" anything you come across.
Thanks,
Sharon
You can check for the latest Y-DNA project results uploaded to the website at the following URL: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~clendin/comparisonchart.htm
Hello,
In the next couple of weeks Rootsweb is moving their mailing lists to new servers. This does not really impact you but you will receive a new Welcome message.
DO NOTHING .. nothing is required by you until and unless I notify you that there will be a change.
I have 22 pages of instructions for each mail list I administer but I hope when it is all configured you will not have to do anything.
Sharon
I found the following in the Dumplin Baptist Church Minutes, Jefferson Co., TN 1797-1860:

August 4th 1849 - The Church met & after divine Service proceded to business - 1st. - took up the reference against Br. Jas. Clendenen & he came forward and give the Chruch satisfactory acknowledgements for which the Church forgive him (p.181) and restored him to fellowship again -
November 1849 - The Church met & after divine Service proceeded to choose Rev. J. S. Caram for our pastor for the ensuing year - dismissed J. Thomas Ellison by letter & Charlotte Clendenen by letter. E. Cates - Clk.

Can someone positively identify these people for me?
Thanks,

Is anyone on this list researching the Clendenens that ended up in East
Tennessee? Also is anyone researching the Clendenens of Middle Tennessee?
Thanks,
