Part XI, The House of Glendonwyn: Laggane, Mochrum, Edinburgh deals with men who were descended from the marriage of Ninian Glendonwyn to Janet Dunbar. This part begins with William Glendoning of Laggane/Logan [GTC 14L], fourth son of John Glendoning of Drumrash.
George Glendining in Edinburgh [GTC 16LA], youngest son of William [GTC 14L] is said by GTC to have married a Euphame Nisbet in 1649. This is apparently true as children were christened in Edinburgh Parish for these two people. GTC gives information on son, John and wife Martha Weir and on daughter, Susanna apparently married to Robert Colthart of Leaths in Buittle.
The Edinburgh Parish records, microfilmed for the IGI, gives the following list of children attributed to George and Euphame Nisbet:
24 Jun 1652, Susanna Glenduning, d/o George Glenduning and Euphame Nisbet, Edinburgh Parish
25 Jul 1654, William Glendunning, s/o George Glendunning and Euphame Nisbet, Edinburgh Parish
28 Oct 1656, John Glendunning, s/o George Glendunning and Euphame Nisbet, Edinburgh Parish
16 Oct 1658, Jean Glendunning, d/o George Glendunning and Euphame Nisbet, Edinburgh Parish
08 Nov 1659, Catherine Glendunning, d/o George Glendunning and Euphame Nisbet, Edinburgh Parish
11 Aug 1661, Euphame Glendunning, d/o George Glendunning and Euphame Nisbet, Edinburgh Parish
03 Feb 1663, George Glendunning, s/o George Glendunning and Euphame Nisbet, Edinburgh Parish
GTC indicates that John was the only surviving son and gives his children's information as follows (also from Edinburgh Parish IGI records):
10 Jan 1684, William Glenduning, s/o John Glenduning and Martha Weir, Edinburgh Parish
30 Aug 1685, Catherine Glendinning, d/o John Glendinning and Martha Weir, Edinburgh Parish
06 Sep 1686, John Glendinning, s/o John Glendinning and Martha Weir, Edinburgh Parish
20 Mar 1688, James Glendinning, s/o John Glendinning and Martha Weir, Edinburgh Parish
12 Dec 1690, Agnes Glendinning, d/o John Glendinning and Martha Weir, Edinburgh Parish
07 Feb 1693, Anna Glendinning, d/o John Glendinning and Martha Weir, Edinburgh Parish
02 Feb 1694, Margaret Glendinning, d/o John Glendinning and Martha Weir, Edinburgh Parish
22 Feb 1695, Marie Glendinning, d/o John Glendinning and Martha Weir, Edinburgh Parish
GTC also indicates that several children whom he attributes to John and Martha are buried at Greyfriars Kirkyard:
1. child, 11 Feb 1684
2. child, 08 Sep 1684
3. Jean, 22 Apr 1685 (in the Tod tomb)
4. child, 10 Jan 1693
5. a "halflin", 15 Mar 1700
If anyone has access to the memorials recorded for Greyfriars Kirkyard in Edinburgh could you please send me a list of burials there for any Glendunning/Glendonning/Glendinning families?
Thank you,
Sharon
Hello all,
Just a quick note to let you know that I just placed an order for a kit using the remaining funds from the general donation fund and the FTDNA matching funds.
Until such time as we have more donations credited to our general fund all orders must be placed by the individual or the person who is bearing the cost for that kit directly from FTDNA.
I want to thank all of you who, even if you weren't sure you understood, decided to take a chance on the testing.
Our latest participant is a descendant of yet another fairly early PA Clendenin -- John Clendenin (1740-1813) m Rebecca deFrance of Lycoming Co.
Happy Holidays.
Sharon
GDAY all:)
Hope you all had a Great Christmas..HAPPY NEW YEAR To u all too.
Was Just reading back thru Messages in Clendinen Mailing List Re the 25/25
Match Between Randal, George Clendenin and Mike Glendenning.
Well, folks, we have another 25/25 match. Mike Glendening's John Glendening
who died in Brown Co., OH in 1839 matches with Randal Clendenin and George
Clendenin
Ok so That means as Both George and Randall Have William Clendenin of NC as
a Direct ancestor, And John Glendenings Line goes back thru William
Glendenning and Rose Anne Kirkpatrick, this William Presumably??Connected
way Back To Ninian Glendonwyns 1st Wife Katherine Maxwell, sooo Is this
Saying that The john Glendening Also Connects with the Charles that Went to
WV?
And Also Meaning that Williams NC line connects too the Charles Line in NC??
Or am I getting Confused here*G* But thats What im reading
Sure be Excited to Get the Victorian CLendinnens From Australia DNA Results

HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Cathy:)
Hello,
I hope each of you had a great Christmas and are looking forward to a fantastic 2005. I had hoped to have DNA test results back as presents for a couple of you but it just didn't work out.
Well, today is 26 Dec and we only have until 31 Dec to use our last matching funds contribution. Are we going to have to turn the money back over to them or is there someone out there who's willing to be tested?
All you have to do is contact me, tell me who you're descended from (or even who you think you're descended from), I'll place an order for you which will give you a credit toward the total cost of the test. They will send you the kit and you can send in the balance when you return the kit. It can either be by cash (such as a check or m.o.) or you can provide your credit card information.
We have kits on their way to four new people for testing purposes and have five kits which are at the lab already. The more people we test the more likely you're to find a match. I'm continuing my quest to locate individuals in Scotland, Ireland and elsewhere who are willing to test.
I've also been in contact with a Dunbar who was aware of Janet Dunbar as Ninian Glendonwyn's second wife. He and I are attempting to locate more information on the descendants of that marriage.
Happy New Year 2005.
Sharon
Hi Bill,
I have a copy of the book but haven't completely finished it yet as I am concentrating on certain chapters for right now.
Another book which is recently on the market is DNA and Family History: How Genetic Testing Can Advance Your Genealogical Research by Chris Pomery.
If someone were unsure whether testing would help them I would recommend either or both of these books.

The above URL is the address for donations to our general testing fund. We've used up pretty much all of the money that was there for testing. Until I hear something different the company is not going to match any more donations from us so it is all up to us.
How about making a donation to our general fund to keep the ball rolling?
Sharon
Hello,
A few days ago I indicated that our general fund could offer a savings on the testing for our surname project.
Well, we have now added three participants and I only have enough money left to offer two more people.
I really don't want this money to disappear the 31st but I do need, if at all possible, to test additional people on Charles of VA's line, preferably from a descendant of his sons William and Robert.
Is there no one out there? If you're not sure, let me know what your lineage is and we'll see if we can hook it up with something I have in my database.
Thanks,
Sharon
Someone wrote to me several months ago regarding a lineage that contained a Griffith or Griffin Clendenen (variant spelling). I can't locate the email now. Would you please get in touch with me?
Thanks,
Sharon
There are some benefits from doing the surname project testing.
1. Many people have thought that James (m Margaret Anderson) was a son of Charles Clendenin.
NOT!
2. Other people have thought that William (m Helen Fowler) was the son of the above James.
NOT! Not only is James not William's father but the descendants of William who have been tested are a completely different Haplogroup. (The first 12 markers determine the haplotype. There are several haplotypes per Haplogroup.) James' haplogroup is R1b; William's haplogroup is I1a.
This brings us to a conclusion that there were at least two different men who began using the name at perhaps the same time.
My point here? Are you sure that the lineage that has been passed down through your family is correct? The only way you're going to be sure is to be tested.
If you are female and can't be tested (this chromosome information passes only from father to son) then you can help by submitting your known lineage to be posted at the website. You can also make a contribution to the general fund.
If you have any questions, please contact me at SharonBryant(a)cox.net.
Hello everyone,
As we move towards the end of this month and 2004 I wanted to remind you that we have matching funds sitting in our General Fund account for our testing purposes. If it is not used by the end of the month, it will disappear. I'm not sure how y'all feel about someone giving you money to be used by a certain period of time but for me I'm going to spend it if I can.
There are two limitations on how this money is spent: 1) It must be for NEW testing (can't be used to increase number of markers to be tested if an initial test has already been run); 2) Only $25 of it can be applied per test. We have enough of this money to contribute to five new tests.
I have an equal amount of money in the fund which has come from individual contributions. I can't begin to thank you enough. My point in mentioning this money is that it is also available for testing but in this case can be used to increase number of markers being tested.
If you have been thinking about testing, please contact me between now and 22 December. If you want to use some of the matching funds I must place the order for you as I have to contact the company to tell them if matching funds and/or general fund money is to be used.
A couple of you have said "yes, I definitely want to test and the matching funds would be appreciated. It's Christmas or someone in my family is ill." Hey, I understand all that so here's what we can do. You contact me no later than 22 December and I will place orders on Christmas eve. The company will contact you and you can pay the balance when you return the kit. It can be credit card or check.
If you decide you want to do this I need the following information from you: Name of person being tested (in case it is a male relative and not you personally); their mailing address (yours if you wish the kit sent to you instead); your information--name, address, telephone number, and email address. Since the test results are emailed if you want a copy sent both to the person being tested and to you, please send me both email addresses.
Remember I can only use the matching funds for five new kits. I will take the first five requests that I get and will match the company's matching funds from the donated balance we have. So that would be a total of $50 that someone else would pay towards the testing.
Thanks,
Sharon
