Hi Mel - Do you have Minta (Minnie) Florence Clemons b. 2-25-1877 in
Centerville, Appanoose county, Iowa, lived most of her life in the Spokane -
Yakima, Washington area, died 2-20-1961; her brother Carey Columbus Clemons,
b.1883 in Centerville and died in Spokane, Washington: and their father, James
M. Clemons in your data base? I am trying to put together a family tree for my
husband. It has been difficult because I have very little to go on. I did see
a picture of a woman who looked very Indian at the first ever family reunion
last summer for my husband's Price family. We have sent a letter to my
husband's half brother in Nebraska, asking him to identify the pictures that we
copied at the reunion - we're not sure we have identifyed the pictures
correctly. Any help that you could give would certainly be appreciated. I'm
happy to share pictures and what info that I have although we've been waiting
quite a while for the correct identities on these pictures!!?? We'll have to
call and jog him into action. Best wishes - Yvonne - Oregon

I don't have access to the book, but I have a note giving a reference to a
book, "Pioneer Families of Franklin County, Virginia" by Marshall Wingfield
stating that there is some information on the parents of Samuel Clemens
(Mark Twain) who was really in Bedford County rather than Franklin County,
Virginia.

Kenneth,
This may not be of much help, but J. C. Clemons from Scottsboro, Alabama,
gave me what I have on my older Clemons ancestors. He has pretty good
confirmation on our line back to Henry and Catherine Janson Clemons and
Catherine Janson's parents, David and Catherine Janson (or Yanson). We
descended from Henry and Catherine Janson Clemons through their son Henry
and his wife Margaret (Peggy) Leedy (If what J. C. gave me is correct).
J. C. had a professional genealogist from Virginia research the Clemons
family trying to find the father of Henry Clemons Sr. who married Catherine
Janson, but she never came up with any definite proof of who his father is.
She made several assumptions about who he was, but her best guess was that
he was Joseph Clemons who purchased land on New River probably in Wythe or
Franklin County in 1769, approximately 20 years before Henry Clements
(listed as Edward Clements) married Catherine Johnston. There was also a
Benjamin Clemmons who bought land on Little Reed Island Creek in 1787 who
the genealogist assumed was Joseph's brother. She states that either of
Joseph or Benjamin could have been Henry's father, but based upon names of
Henry's descendants (there were at least three descendants of Henry Clemons
named Joseph but no Benjamins) she assumes that Joseph was probably Henry's
father. She also found that some of Benjamin's land was sold by the courts
to pay the taxes on it. She thought if Henry was Benjamin's son, he would
probably have paid the taxes on the land to keep the courts from taking it
since at least part of the land would have been his someday.
J. C. had to genealogist trying to see if there was a relationship between
Henry Clemons and Samuel Langhorn Clemons (Mark Twain) since his ancestor,
Henry and Peggy Leedy Clemons son, was Samuel George Clemons. She never was
able to prove or disprove the relationship to Mark Twain, but concluded that
there was a good possibility that Henry Clemons was Mark Twain's uncle.
I know there is nothing to prove that Joseph is Henry's dad in what I have
given you, but you may be able to find further proof. If you do find any
other evidence, please let me know what you find.
I believe you stated that you had information on the descendants of Henry
Clemons in Blount County, Tennessee. If you do would you mind sharing what
you have with me. My gg-grandmother was Martha Nancy Clemons, daughter of
Henry and Peggy Leedy Clemons if what J. C. gave me is correct. I would
like to have a little further proof of this if anyone else has any
documentation on it. Martha Nancy Clemons married William S. Headrick and
her brother Samuel George Clemons married William Headrick's sister, Marry
Etta Headrick, in Blount County, Tennessee in the early 1850's. Both of
these families along with William and Mary Etta's sister and her husband
Levinder Bird, all moved to Jackson County in the late 1860's or early
1870's. I have always heard that Martha Nancy Clemons was full-blooded or
at least half-blooded Indian. Yet the information that was given to me
shows no Indian relatives. Do you have anything on Henry and Peggy Leedy
Clemons and any proof that he was Henry and Catherine Janson's son?

I'm sorry I did not receive your message. All I know is that Henry Clemons
(Clemens) was married in Montgomery Co., Va. in 1787 to Catherine
Yanson(Johnson). Henry died in 1819 in Wythe Co., Va. Many of his children
went to Blount County, Tennessee.
I have the family fro Blount County.

Hi, I will try to find another Albert Clemons. I will be going to Redfield,
Oswego, Oneida County, Williamstown, Sandy Creek. I will definitely keep you
in mind. My Albert had a sister named Melvina also. It's eerie how the names
intertwine. The Yerdons and Castors are cousins of mine. I'm going to see if
I can find any Albert married to a Melvina. Thanks for answering. I was
afraid that you had had a death in the family. Let's keep in touch. We might
be able to help each other after all.

Does anyone know anything about an Aaron Clemons from Massachusetts. He
was born circa 1780, one of six children. He married Lucretia Hooker in
April 1798 in Charlton, Worcester, MA. That's all I have, but I'd like
to know more--specifically, where he was born, information about his
parents, where he was buried, etc. I can't seem to get back any further
than his birth date.
Hi, did you find out that you weren't related to my line of Clemons? I'm
planning to go to New York in July. Do you want me to look up anything for
you?
Sorry that I couldn't be of any help.
my grandfather was from signal Mt. tenn. they had 15 children. there was
an Albert who left the Mt. and went north or to California, not real sure.

Let me know if you find any LEROY or ALBERT CLEMONS (or Clem) in your
