I have 2 or 3 questions about William Henry Clemens and family. Can anyone help? My connection is thru his marriage to Manerva Wilson Windrix.
I have been unable to find the following information on these people. (1) When did William Henry marry Manerva? I know Manerva and first husband, David Windrix, were on the 1870 Jackson Co AL census. Apparently David then dies because later Manerva and William Henry are on the 1880 Jackson Co census. I'm wondering if they could have been married a little before 1880. I'm hoping this would help narrow the time frame for David Windrix's death and burial location. I haven't found a marriage record for William Henry and Manerva anywhere and I'm wondering if they might have married somewhere other than Jackson Co.
(2) I know that David Windrix and Manerva had 2 children; daughter Dollie and son, William M. Didn't she also have a son named David that was born ca 1880? Could he possibly have been David's son if Manerva and William Henry had only been married a short time by 1880? I know that there was another son, Charley, but he was born ca 1883 and would certainly be the son of William Henry and Manerva.
(3) I can find William Henry with his new wife, Mattie Jane, on the 1900, the 1920 and the 1930 census but I haven't found him in 1910. Anyone know where he was?
(4) O.K. 4 questions......Living in William Henry's home in 1900 were 2 young girls. I'm pretty sure that the surname is Brown though it certainly doesn't look like it. Lillie M Brown is shown as Mattie Jane's daughter; the other one is shown as a niece. Apparently Mattie Jane had been married before she married William H? Can anyone furnish information on the Brown side of the family?
Any assistance or suggestions appreciated,
Paula
I believe that there is much mistaken data posted online about the above families that needs to be corrected. My connection is thru Dollie's parents, David and Manerva. If anyone can make documented corrections to my WILSON-WINDRIX family, please feel free to do so. I really would like to know if my data is accurate.
I connect thru my great Aunt, Minerva/Manerva Wilson, born ca 1847 GA. She appears on the West Amunchee, Walker Co GA 1850 census and the 1860 DeKalb Co AL census. Her parents were William and Sarah Wilson. She married David Windrix in 1869 Marshall Co AL after his Civil War service discharge. David's surname has been spelled many ways, including Wendrich/Wendrick/Wenrich/Windrix on several different documents, though shown as Windrix on his service records. Their marriage record is online. David and Manerva were shown on the 1870 Jackson Co AL census along with her father William Wilson(b ca 1800 SC) and a Josephine Chambers/Chandler, born ca 1860 AL. Would like to know how she connects to this family, if at all.
David and Manerva apparently had 2 children, Dollie and William M. I believe that David died between 1873 and 1880 as Manerva is found in the Jackson Co AL home of William Henry Clemens/Clemmens for the 1880 census. The children are listed as being Clemens but their surname should be Windrix. Sometime around 1880, Manerva applied for benefits using David's Civil War service. It was denied. Then about 1887, she applied for Minor's benefits for her son, William M Windrix. William Clemens is shown as guardian on that application. I believe it was also denied.
Dollie Windrix was born 3-1-1871 AL and died 4-14-1935 in AL. On Dec 25, 1887, Dollie Windrix married John M White. Her brother, William M, was born April 1873 AL. On 2-3-1895, he married a Louise/Lou Worsham. William was living in Bristow, Creek Co, OK in 1930.
Between 1880 and 1899, Manerva either died or divorced because in 1899 William H Clemens married Mattie Jane Brown. I believe that many genealogy postings have confused Manerva Jane Wilson Windrix with Mattie Jane Brown Windrix. I've seen records showing Mattie Jane Brown Windrix as the mother of Dollie and William M and that can't be true. I also believe that Mattie Jane Brown had been married to a man with the surname of Brown before her marriage to William Clemmens because she had a daughter named Lillie M Brown. I do not known Mattie Jane's maiden name. I believe that Lillie M Brown married Robert O Coble and later lived in OK. Lillie and husband Robert are buried in Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa OK.
William Henry Clemens/Clemmons/Clemmens was born ca 1859 in TN and died in March of 1939 in OK. His 2nd wife, Mattie Jane Brown Clemens/Clemmons, etc was born ca 1855 in TN and died in Sept 1936 OK. William and Mattie Jane are also buried in Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, OK. Looking at the location of the grave sites, I think that Mattie Jane, William Henry Clemens, Lillie M and Robert O Coble are close to each other.
Would like to contact descendants who can provide information on this family so that the record can be set straight and I can amend my data as necessary. It is my hope that someone will be able to tell me when and where David and Manerva Windrix died and where they are buried. Would also love to find the date and burial location for William Wilson (Manerva's father) as he is my great-great grandfather. Any and all help greatly appreciated.
