Eva Berton passed away October 17, 2013 in Medford, Ore. at the age of 84.
Eva was born September 22, 1929 to Bill and Ruth Clemmer in Emporia, Kans. In 1939 her family migrated to Oregon looking for work. Upon hearing of work from family in Hanford, Calif., they moved there for a brief time but a longing for the mountains brought the family back and they settled in Jacksonville, Ore. where her father, Bill Clemmer, began driving log truck for a living. Eva graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1947 and from Medford Beauty School in 1949. She worked as a beautician at the Towne Beauty Shoppe on Central Avenue.
In 1950 she married Merle L. Eldridge and his job took them to Hanford, Calif. They had two daughters, Darcy (Mark) Lea Burns and Billie (Chuck) Jean Taylor, who survive. It was here she went to work as a policewoman after her divorce.
In 1964 she married John M. Berton, a horse trainer, whose work took them from Hanford to Corcoran, Tulare, and Novato, all in Calif. When the marriage ended, she brought her daughters home to the Rogue Valley where she worked at Witham's Truck Stop and Kim's Restaurant before going to work and retiring from Boise Cascade Sawmill on North Pacific Hwy. Since retiring she was a regular seasonal worker for Bear Creek Corp until 2011.
She is also survived by five grandchildren; Trevis and Karlie Burns and Tracey, Darcie and Cody Taylor; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Her sister, Barbara Clemmer Hammersley (Gene) of Reno, Nev. and sister-in-law, Aileen (Sellers) Clemmer of Mt Angel, Ore. also survive her. She was preceded in death by both parents and her brother, Charles (Chuck) Clemmer.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the Medford Friends Church, 525 DeBarr Avenue, Medford, OR.
