employment there with George Lahr (or Lohr). On 6/10/1809, George Lahr of Hereford Twp. and Catherine his wife conveyed land to “---and---Christian Clemmer of Rockhill Twp., Bucks Co.” Christian paid ?2100 for four tracts of land In Hereford Township. The witnesses were George Clemmer and John Thompson (Berks DB 541,403). At this time, there was only one adult Christian Clemmer living in Rockhill Township, according to census and tax reports, i.e., Christian, son of Martin Clemmer. On 8/23/1832, the very date this Christian Clemmer wrote his will, a Christian Clemmer of Rockhill Township and Catharine, his wife, conveyed land to George Clemmer of Hereford Twp., Berks Co., son of said Christian. George paid $3,466.66 for 92 acres in four tracts. The witnesses were Samuel Clemmer and Abraham Heaney (who also witnessed Christian’s will) (Berks DB 46,475).
On 8/14/1809, George married Anna Geissinger (3/26/1787-12/ 25/1872) who gave birth to seven children:
John G. - 9/8/1810 - 6/21/1894 m. Susan Bauer - 9/1/1813 - 4/2/1900; a farmer near Bally; buried at Hereford Mennonite Church.
Rev. Christian - 2/8/1813 - 3/9/1883 m. Barbara Gehman - 8/14/1815 - 11/22/1894; a well-known “New Mennonite” minister at Hereford, buried at Hereford Church. David_G. - 9/23/1815 - 5/20/1893 m. Mary - 3/20/1820 - 11/13/ 1886, lived on George’s farm, buried at Hereford Church.
Catharine - b. 8/22/1818 m. David Hiestand of Lehigh Co.
REV. SAMUEL - 8/10/1821 - 2/16/1870
Anna - b.8/21/1824 m. John H. Bechtel
Abraham - b. 8/20/1828; died and buried in the state of Washington
George evidently helped his sons start out on their own. In 1842, he convoyed 99 acres to John Clemmer, his son, of Hereford and Washington Townships (Berks DB 50, 80) and in 1848, David Clemmer bought land from his father (Berks DB 88,586). The father wrote his will in 1862 stipulating that each of his seven children get an equal share of the profits from the sale of his land. His widow retained the household goods (Berks Wills 11, 329).
At least part of the original farm continued in the possession of David Clemmer. It is reported to have been he who built the mill, part of which still stands (as of 1970) near his father’s house (9). After David’s death in 1893, James B. Funk took possession of the farm. He had married David’s daughter, Susanna. As of 1970 it was owned by Stanley Fox.
George Clemmer and his wife Anna are buried at the Hereford Mennonite Church.
*
REV. SAMUEL CLEMMER, 1821 – 1870*
Samuel was born on 8/10/1821, presumably on the Clemmer farm near Clayton. On 11/11/1851, he married Judith Gerhard (3/18/1828-8/13/1895) and they had six children;
Andrew George - 12/11/1852 - 10/5/1914 m. Mary Emily Miller.
Catherine Ann - 11/30/1854 - 9/11/1944 m. Rev. Albert Funk 6/25/1852 - 11/3/1927, pastor of the First Mennonite Church, Phila., 1874-1881 and from 1890 - 1915, Gen. Secretary of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, New York City; both are buried at Hereford Church.
Daughter - stillborn 7/19/1857; buried at Hereford Church.
Sarah - 7/50/1858 - 12/5/1876; buried at Hereford Church.
Jonas G. - 6/50/1860 - 10/27/1935 m. Martha F. Smith - 1864- 1947; Drug salesman in Phila.(10). Both buried at Hatboro Cemetery.
JOEL GERHARD - 8/9/1864 - 11/14/1931.
In 1855 Samuel was chosen by lot to become am assistant minister at Hereford, as was the Mennonite custom. He succeeded Ephriam Hunsberger who had moved to Ohio. Samuel may have been farming somewhere else at the time for on 4/5/1854, Peter Yoder of Hereford Twp.conveyed land to “Samuel G. Clemmer of Lower Milford Twp., Lehigh Co. and minister of the gospel.” Samuel paid $9,000 for 125 acres adjoining land of Rev. Christian Clemmer (Berks DB 61, 524). Rev. Christian owned a house near that of his father, George.

Hal,
George Clemmer, born in PA and died in VA, made a will in
Rockbridge Co., VA, dated 28 Jun 1819 and probated 25 Nov 1828. These
children were named:
George mar. Mary Elizabeth Kinzer; they remained in Rockbridge Co., VA
Andrew mar. Sarah Black; they moved to Montgomery Co., OH.
David Fishburn mar. Martha Wilson; they moved to Preble Co., OH
Anna Maria mar. Jacob Brosius; they moved to Rush Co., IN
John mar. Phebe Nevius; they moved to Preble Co., OH
Mary(Polly) mar. John McCormick
Margaret(Peggy), apparently did not marry
Elizabeth mar. Reuben Lunsford; they lived in Nelson Co., VA
All the marriages listed above occurred in Virginia. George and
Magdalena appear in these PA church records:
There was an earlier child Elizabeth who probably died young; she
was born 22 Sep 1775 and baptized 20 Dec 1775 at Christ Reformed Church,
Adams Co., PA (York Co., PA at that time). Baptismal sponsors were John
Weigert and Anna Maria Eva.
David was born 11 Sep 1780 and baptized 1 October 1780, with the
parents as witnesses.
Anna Maria was born 11 Jun 1782 and baptized 28 June 1782, with
Anna Maria Mueller, single, as witness.
John was born 14 Mar 1786 and baptized 2 July 1786, with John
Weikert and Eva as witnesses.
This baptism took place in St. John's Lutheran Church, Germany Township,
Adams Co., PA.
The names Weigand and Weikert/Weigert are distinct names. The
single woman, Anna Maria Mueller, as witness is suggestive that she was
related to the parents. I believe that married couples were generally
chosen as witnesses/sponsors, and singles might be chosen if they had a
family connection to the child.

Maybe someone else can help??
