Have you checked http://www.progenealogists.com/palproject/pa/ ? All
sorts of ships, passenger lists etc. I assume it is accurate.

Dear Hal,
Here is what William Powell's NC Gazeteer says about Mocksville:
"Town and County Seat, central Davie County. Named for the Mock fazmily,
owners of the land on which the town was founded. Inc.1839. Post
office established here 1810 as Mock's Old Field Post Office; name
changed to Mocksville between 1823 and 1826."
Here are some some Rowan County deed abstracts from Jo White Linn's
publication:
10 Oct 1783, 386 acres on head of Eudy Run of Abbott's Creek, adj. Fredk.
Miller.
4 Nov 1784, 200 acres on Abbott's Creek adj. Michael Houk, now Devolt
Mock's.
Abbott's Creek is in what is now northern Davidson County. The Frederick
Miller mentioned in the first abstract was my ancestor. He lived in what
was then called Fredericktown (named for him). It was near the current
Bethany UCC Church on Bethany Church Road, near the town of Midway on old
US 52 about half way between Lexington and Winston Salem.
Best Regards,
Ray

Hi Shirley, I hope you don't mind me asking but do you have a source for
Miriam Rhoades Clemmers death date? I personally believe she died between
1830 and 1840. Thanks

Thanks Chris. One never knows when or where they will recieve helpful
tidbits.
What is your best estimate of where your Devault MOCK and CLINARDs lived?
Was Devault of Mocksville fame?

Mary Mock and Adam Coppess. I don't have much but maybe this will help...

Could you tell us more abt where he lived, d, ch...? Or paste us his tree??
My gf Valentine "Felty" and his bro Geo Ludwig CLEMMER were around

Hal, I haven't verified anything beyond Henry Clemmer. Most of the
information I have came from: From Owner: WALTER C. DAVIS III s-mail: P.O.
Box 345; Warren, Maine; 04864-0345 e-mail: daviswc(a)worldnet.att.net .
I got it on the net and have not communicated with Mr. Davis. I spend most
of my time on my Bloom line and have not done much with the Clemmers. I
just started looking at the census for the Clemmer's. That is why I asked
the question about Miriam Rhodes death date. She is not with Andrew in the
1840 or 1850 census so she was either dead or they were seperated.

Dear Hal,
I do not find a Jacob Clemer by any spelling in Rowan County in the 1790,
1800 or 1810 censuses. Have you seen the actual land record or just an
abstract? The handwritten deeds can be difficult to read, especially if
the abstractor is not familiar with who lived in the area. The Moravian
Line is roughly the current boundary between Forsyth County and Davidson
County (formed from Rowan), and Frye's Creek rises in Northern Davidson
County. The Moravians came from Bethlehem, PA and elsewhere to the
current Surry County.
My supposition is that the abstractor misread Jacob Clinard as Jacob
Clemer. In the 1800 Rowan Census, there is a Jacob Clinard on page 371.
The census taker thought he was doing us a favor, and alphabetized his
listings by the letter of the alphabet for the surname. Thus it is not
easy to determine who a person's neighbors were. But scanning down the
listings, there was a Peter Hinkle (as well as a Casper and Anthony
Hinkle) on page 373, a Jacob Mock on page 374, and a widow Mock and Moses
Perkins on page 375. I did not find a Peters or Hartman.
In 1810, the listings were not alphabetized. There were a Jacob Clinard,
Lawrence Clinard, John Monroe, Anthony Hinkle, and Jacob Mock on page 51.
Casper Hinkle and Moses Perkins were on page 50.
Best Regards,
Ray Yount

He's got to be from either Casper/Jacob's line or
Lewis's. Those folks headed from southeastern Pa.
to Md. & southwestern Pa. & then all points west.
Maybe, Dorothy Creeley could help out.
I'll do what I can on this end.///Len Clemmer

Thanks Ray for your extra work. You could be correct. And another kind
responder says that it could be CLEMMENT because there were several there in
that era??
