Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
As you probably noticed, I sent a cc to Gene which did not bounce. I talked
to Gene maybe 2 yrs ago. Would Harless be the father?

That was back in late June, early July of 1999. Hopefully,
there are records @ the synod.
Is Harless Brakebill still around? I corresponded with him
back in 1999. At that time he had about 13000 persons from
his family in his files. This included Clemmer, Davis, & Young
info.
I don't think he gave me an e-mail address. I do have the following:
Harless Brakebill
127 Acorn Gap Road
Sweetwater, Tn., 37874
Phone: 1 423 337 9794
Len Clemmer

Several years back, I went to St. Pauls to search for records.
The person I talked with said that the secretary who had been
custodian of the records had left the church & taken the records
when they left!

Unfortunately, you'll have to pay for DNA testing through
familytreeDNA or some other tester to get a copy of markers
needed to compare to SMGF files. The cost might be well worth it
to determine lineage.

Hi Joyce. Always good to hear from you and thanks for remembering our YOUNG
limb. I agree that our gm Anna CLEMMER "HAD" to have came with the her
parents to Monroe Co, TN. My initial critical question was whether she m
our gf John YOUNG in Gaston Co, NC or after arr in Monroe Co, TN, was he
Irish per fam tradition or German, was gf John YOUNG indentured.... This
was critical to determining if the YOUNGs were ever in Gaston Co and likely
associated there with the CLEMMERs etc. To date we have no support for our
YOUNGs ever being in Gaston Co!!
Revelations over the past decade have made this point less relevant as we
are now satisfied that the Peter YOUNG who m Catherina DETTRO (d/o Balzer
who was bro to our gm Margaret DETTRO CLEMMER and John DETTRO of Gaston Co)
is indeed our gf Peter. We see no alternative but that the YOUNGs followed
the DETTRO & CLEMMERS into Gaston Co, but no proof- no cen, no deeds, no tax
lists, no mar, no nuttin!!.
Just now, our best lead for connecting the YOUNGS, KLEMMER, DOTTERER/DETTROs
is the discovery of the DOTTERERs & Felty CLEMMER living next to Peter,
David et al YOUNGs in Littlestown, Adams Co, PA in 1700s.
Now for the earliest rec of St Pauls. Several yrs ago I corres with Walter
Davis, a descendant of the DAVIS that m gf John CLEMMER daus. We concluded
that the first book(s) of the ch had not been found.I will follow your
suggestions later in hopes of finding early data.
I have lost contact with Walter. Would you by chance know him or his add?
He was a great researcher for our families.
Best,
Hal McCawley 4178 Pindar Way, Oceanside, CA 92056 760.941.4716

in the Rockhill tract to the eldest son, Martin, This deed lists the
existing children:

Hi J.J.,
Sorry this reply took so long but my dad is sick and I have been
tending to his needs for a few weeks now.
Yes, so far Jacob is as far back as I have gone. When I get another
moment, I will look for
my research. I know Jane's maiden name was Clement and she was from
Ireland. Jacob died in Ohio I believe. He was a lawyer and it looks
like he moved out there later in life.
About the DNA test: the web site says I will not be receiving any
actual results. How would we obtain the information? Also, do you think
it is safe
in terms of privacy, etc? It sounds intriguing and, if I can talk to
Dad on one his good days, perhaps we could do it. I also have 5
brothers so perhaps one of
them would be able to help out?
Thank you so much for your time. I am still reading the correspondences
and hoping a name catches my eye,
Sincerely,
Kristen Clemmer

Need assistance/advice in research these neighboring families.
Peter, John, William, Joseph & David YOUNGs show up on deeds living next to the DOTTERER, KLEMMER/CLEMMER and other German families.
What deed, estate, census, tax list data or ch rec are available??
Advice appreciated.
Best,

I have a document handed down to me by an aunt dictated by Jacob Clemmer son
of Casper/Jasper Clemmer of York County, Pa, in which he says that he, Jacob
and his father Casper served in the army, and that they were at the last battle
of the Revolution at Yorktown. Casper died shortly thereafter, the narrative
says. Casper's wife managed during the war by renting out Casper's
blacksmith shop, and growing vegetable, ,and before joining the army, at 16 yrs of age,
he had sold doughnuts to British troops somewhere (?), until they began to
suspect that he was a spy for Washington (and he was) , and they told him, if he
came back they would kill him, so he went to Washington , who gave him a
rifle, and allowed him to join up. Jacob told this and other stories to his
grandson JOseph Neal Clemmer in Fayette County, Pa, about 1840-45, because the
family was moving west. These Clemmers were no menonites, and did believe in
military service. The other Clemmers were Mennonites and did not believe in
participation in war, that is, your Clemmers. But I do believe they are all the
same family. There's lots more in that document, if you are interested. I have
a picture of Jacob Clemmer, who died about 1850 in Fayette County. He is a
lively scrappy talkative, story teller, full of pride and indignation re the
French slaughter of the Clemmers of France, near Lyon, some of whom escaped to
apfeltern near Zurich. Zurich at the time, was a Pre -protestant area, with a
pastor, former priest disgusted with the Catholic Church, Ulrich Zwingli,
contemporary of Luther, and part of the beginning of the Reformation. When Catholic
troops took them on in the battledfield, Zwingli led his people and died on
the battlefield. He was quartered by the Catholic troops. Time frame? 1532
or so. Zwingli is a famous person, you can find in the history books. The
Clemmers of Apfeltern outside Zurich, moved to Germany (year forgotten), and
immigrated fromGermany to Pennsylvania. I have some very early baptismal records
from their time in Apfeltern, hard to read, faded, etc, and the given names
are disappointing...but they are connected. Have also done some research in
French records outside Lyon, and the Clemmers are there. HOpe this is of
interest. Dorothy Creely. Jcob said they had in the past spelled their name as
Klammar, and I have also seen in spelled as Clemens.

There are records available through the Pa. archives in
Harrisburg that I stumbled upon on-line. You can download
the file card with names & some other fragments ( unit, pension,
whatever). I'll check my records & see if I can come up with
a list of names.
