GARLAND CLEMMER RITES HELD THRUSDAY AT RANDSBURG
Garland Leigh Clemmer, 39, of Red Mountain, died at the Ridgecrest
Hospital early Sunday morning following injury in a traffic accident.
The accident occurred between 11 and 12 pm about 1 1/4 miles north of
the Randsburg cutoff to Ridgecrest when the car in which he was a
passenger attempted to pass a truck and trailer.
Bob Franich, driver of the car, put on his brakes, his car skidded
into the trailer and Clemmer was injured. Neither Franich or Kenneth
S. Whitmore, driver of the truck, were injured.
Legion Hall Funeral
Final rites for Mr. Clemmer were conducted by Rev. Ed Fisher of the
First Baptist Church of Ridgecrest at the Legion Hall in Randsburg at
2 pm on Thursday of this week. The pall bearers were fellow workers
from Deifel Motors, Edward Deifel, Joe C. Jones, George Flohr,
Clarence Kassen, Elvin Kassen and Leslie O. Leeper. Interment will be
at the Rand Deistrict Cemetery in Johannesburg.
Merchant Marine Service
Garland Clemmer was born on July 2, 1919 in Rising City, Nevada. He
received his schooling and grew up in Camas, Washington where he also
became acquainted with Peggy Clemmer who became his wife.
He served for 17 years in the Merchant Marine where he would have
attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander if he had remained in
service for another year.
He left service at the close of the war. In January 1948 he moved from
Flagstaff Arizona to Red Mountain where he was first employed at the
Owl Garage. In July 1948 he entered the employ of Deifel Motors where
he was still an employee until the time of his death.
He leaves his wife Peggy and two daughters Arden and Rocelle of Red
Mountain, four sisters Mrs. O.W. Lane of Bremerton, Washington and
Dona Cavitt and Dixie Harris of Washington, four brother Albert Cavitt
of Chico, California, Richard Clemmer of Bremerton Washington and Lyle
and Herman Clemmer who have not yet been located that they might be
informed of their brother's death.

Ruby Watts, 92 died Saturday, August 20, 2005 in Abilene. Funeral
services will be held Monday, August 22, 2005 at 2:00 pm at The Hamil
Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will follow in the
Hamby Cemetery.
Ruby was born December 1, 1912 in Callahan County to Henry Ellis
Clemmer and Bessie Moore Clemmer. She married Austin Watts July 29,
1928. They were married 73 years.
Ruby was employed for 23 years in sales and buying at Minter's
Department Store, downtown Abilene. In here career and in her life,
she was especially fond of following the achievements of the people
she encountered along the way. She was keenly interested in families
and young men of various Boy Scout Troops whose lives touched hers
through years of Boy Scout Uniform purchases from Minter's.
Ruby was a lifelong member of Hamby Baptist Church. In more recent
years, she enjoyed activities and time spent with fellow "Keen-Agers"
of Hamby Baptist Church. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary Post 2012
for over 50 years.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother,
Bert Clemmer; two sisters, Alvie Brannon and Dema Watts. She is
survived by a sister, Thelma Hall, of Hamby, and two sisters-in-law,
Ola Pruitt of Abilene, and Elsie Novak of Saginaw, Michigan. She is
also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and family members who will
miss "Aunt Ruby's" unique sense of humor and sharp wit. Her
great-nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family gives a special thank you to Maria Lopez for her friendship
and care. Memorials may be sent to Hamby Baptist Church,156 CR 503,
Abilene, TX 79601 or a favorite charity.
