Subject: [KSOsage] Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary: Mr. and Mrs.
C.H. McMASTER
The Osage City Free Press
Thursday
June 2, 1932
To Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary.
Married-At the residence of the bride's parents, June 6th, 1882, Mr.
Clyde McMASTER to Miss Nettie CLEMMER, of this city. The happy couple
left on the noon train for Atchison, where they will remain a short
time visiting friends. We wish them all sorts of good luck, and may
their lives be as tranquil, bright and beautiful as the perfect June
day on which they were made husband and wife by Rev. W.W. CURTIS,
pastor of the Presbyterian church, performed the ceremony.
The above paragraph appeared in the Osage City Free Press, June 8,
1882, and is in the possession of Mrs. McMASTER.
Next Monday, June 6, Mr. and Mrs. McMASTER are extending a cordial
invitation to their friends of this community to help celebrate their
fiftieth wedding anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. McMASTER will be at home to their friends from 2:00 to
5:00 o'clock in the afternoon and from 7:30 to 10:00 in the evening.
This highly respected couple are perhaps as well known as any couple
in the community and number their friends by their acquaintances. Mrs.
McMASTER was born in Dayton, O., and with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
D.M. CLEMMER, came to this couty in 1873, locating on a farm near the
Dragoon, north of this town. She remembers seeing the first engine and
coal cars pass over the Santa Fe tracks from Topeka to Osage City. Mr.
McMASTER was born in Luana, Iowa., and came with his parents here in
1870 settling south of Osage City.
When the bridal couple returned from their trip a few days after their
wedding on June 6, 1882, they were given a large reception at the home
of the bridegroom's parents, south of town. After farming for almost
eighteen years, Mr. McMASTER was appointed the second rural letter
carrier fo this county, his route being from the Osage City office. He
continued in this service until he retired December 15, 1926. Mr.
McMASTER's first route was 25 miles long, three miles east to the
Jersey Creek road, nine and one-half miles south to the Woodbury
ranch, three miles west of the Seymour Morton farm and north into
Osage City. Eighty-four famioies were served on the route. His father,
H.H. McMASTER was the first substitute carrier, Ed. CHEASBRO, second
and his wife third, who served for over fifteen years.
Among the first patrons on his route thirty-two years ago were Newt
WEST, James CREEGAN, Mrs. Matte RISMAN, George H. LIEBER, H.L. FERRIS,
Charles ECKLOF, W.H. SMITH, Joseh BEHR, James GUILFOIL, W.C. BOLLARD,

Mr. McMASTER has the distinction of having the first automobile in
Osage City. It was an auto buggy type and covered his mail route with
it for few years. However Mr. McMASTER kept a team of horses for a few
years to use in bad weather.
Mrs. McMASTER is a very capable woman in her home, in business and
many other ways. The McMASTERS have one daughter, Mrs. L.W. SILVEN of
this city. Orville their only son, died several years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. McMASTER have a nice comfortable home, located at the
corner of Eighth and Ellinwood streets and where they also operate a
large chicken hatchery. About twelve years ago they began the business
of raising chickens and each year added to their equipment until now
they have one of the largest in the county.
The Osage City Free Press extends congratulations to them.

Buce /website. I did enjoy it. BUT, The woman who had been married to
Michael Davernier/Daughniet/Tavernier, a widow who married the early Klemmer in
Friedelsheim. Tavernier is an old Flemish name. My studies on a family in the
same area, the Weyers, takes THEM back to Leiden as refugies from Flanders,
during the time of the Spanish control of the area in the 1540's and up to
1600. Thousands of people of Calvinist /early Reformed faith, left Flanders amid
the presecutions by the Spanish Troops, cities like Antwerp, Ghent,
Valenciennes. The flanders area had been very prosperous because of trade and the
weaving industry there . The Taverniers were there, and evidently became refugees
to Germany , as so many did, going to Frankfurt am rhin, then a few years
later, to Frankenthal. I hope this is interesting. Dorothy
