DEATHS 20 May 2003

KLEMMER John (Jack) Alvin passed away peacefully Friday, May 16, 2003 at the
age
of 92 years in Rosetown. Jack was born in Oliver District on March 13, 1911.
. .
I received the utterly sad news yesterday afternoon that Charles W. Hite,
Jr. took his own life on Friday, May 16, 2003 at his residence in Gastonia,
NC. He was buried today in a private ceremony handled by McLean Funeral
Directors. Charlie is survived by his wife, Barbara, two daughters, one
son, one grandchild, and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Audrey M. Clemmer. I
believe Charlie was 60 years old.
As some of you know, Charlie was the author of "Clemmer History", which is
published on the internet
(http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clemmerkin/books/clemmer_family/),
and remained a very active participant in this Clemmer Listserv from its
inception in 1997 until late last month. His loss will truly leave a void in
Klemmer/Clemmer genealogy research for years to come.
A pharmacist by trade, Charlie was disabled in the 1980s by a failed back
surgery that left him in constant, terrible pain. Subsequent corrective
procedures only exacerbated his pain and kept him bedside for years. He
discovered the hobby of genealogy during this time and made contacts with
many members of this group through mail correspondence and the Clemmer
listerv. However, the unremitting pain continued to take a toll on Charlie.
In January 2002, he sent me the following message:

Interesting web site Joyce. Does any member of this group know of any
Clemmer/Klemmer who held political office? I have not heard of any.

CHICKENS PARISH IN FIRE
The chicken stable of W.A. CLEMMER, near Clayton, caught fire on Tuesday
morning, at about two o'clock. It was about half burned already when they
found it out. Nothing could be saved any more. About 85 old chickens and
about 125 little chicks were burned. Nothing was insured except the contents.
The cause of the fire cannot be explained unless the brooder which was in the
building set it on fire. It however, was all right yet at about eight
o'clock. The loss was about $150.

FOUND EGG WITHIN EGG
Mrs. W.A. CLEMMER, of near Clayton, found a large egg this week which when
she opened it contained another egg, with a hard shell of about normal size.
