Subject: [Rice-Southern-L] Allen Rece/Rice--Revolutionary War Soldier
Greetings,
I am seeking information on the parents of Allen Rece/Rice b. 1760
in Bucks County, PA, d. November 29, 1837 in Cabell County, VA (WV).
His pension file shows he m. Mary Clymer in Bucks County. After the
close of the Revolutionary War he moved to Bedford County, VA, lived
there until 1790 when he moved to Kanawha County, VA (WV). In 1798 the
names of Jas. Rise, Elijah Rise, Jacob McLaven, Jeremiah Rise, Allen
Rise and Job Lambert appear in succession on a legislative petition to
form Tazewell County, VA. These were our Rices who settled in
Montgomery County, VA, later a part of Wythe County and finally
Tazewell County. They intermarried with the Lambert family. James
Rice and his wife, Mary, sold land in Tazewell County in 1800 while
residents of Kanawha County. James settled in Gallia County, OH and
appears in the 1820-1840 census reports. In 1840 there was a notation
on the census stating he was 116 years old. I doubt this fact,
however he was old. There also was a newspaper article in 1839
stating James was 116 years old and had a son who was 83 years old
which would have been the correct age for William b. 1756 who died in
Carter County, KY. Allen and his family retained the Rece spelling,
while other members of the family used Rice.
Any info on the Rece/Rice family of Bucks County, PA would be
appreciated.
