Lenny Clemmer found a single white male, William Hancock on the 1790 census
for Stokes County NC. Yesterday
I noticed #3 Deathridge on this census. I believe this is Duttera-Totherow
from Pennsylvania to Rowand Co.
Balsar Duttero of Rowan Co helped the widow of Valentine Clemmer of
Littlestown PA buy land on Bear Creek of
Yadkin River. When the widow Clemmer bought the land she did so in her own
name. When the land was sold a few years later in 1795, it was listed in the
name of William Handcock; and Lenny found
a marriage bond for them in Rowan. I have no access to Stokes Co deed books,
but it would be interesting to see if
William Handcock lived near Duttera.

Dear Hal,
After Larence Clemmer leaves York Co., PA:
On 12 Aug 1787 Susanna Klemmer, daughter of Lorenz and Anna
Maria Klemmer is baptized at Middletown Ev. Luth. Ch., Frederick Co., MD.
No further mention has been found by me; perhaps she died young.
The 1790 Census of Frederick Co., MD has this entry: Laurance
Climmer, 1 male over 16, 1 male under 16, 6 females.
In 1803 Lawrence Clemmer purchased real property in Allegany
County, MD. Deed book D, page 80. Perhaps he was there sooner, as he is
mentioned as a creditor in an earlier estate record.
On 25 March 1808 Mary Clemmer applied to the Orphan's Court of
Allegany County, MD for letters of administration on the estate of
Laurence Clemmer. Letters were granted on 12 Apr 1808.
On 9 June 1812 the Court by the consent of his mother
apprenticed Lewis Clemmer, orphan of Lawrence Clemmer, to Peter
Lowdermilk, to learn the art and mystery of the saddler, till he arrive
at the age of twenty-one years; the said apprentice is eighteen years of
age as of yesterday.
The 1813 real estate tax list for Cumberland, Allegany County,
has this entry: L. Klemmer's heirs, $50.
Lewis Clemmer enlisted in McLaughlin's Company, Allegany
County, in the War of 1815.
Lewis Clemmer and Christina Butler received a marriage license
on 26 Apr 1815 in Allegany County. Christina was the daughter of the
Rev. John George Butler, Lutheran pastor in Cumberland, and is mentioned
in his Allegany Co. will.
In the 1820 Census Lewis Clemmer appears in the 1820 Census of
Springhill Township, Fayette Co., PA. Gasper and Jacob Clemmer also
appear in this township. On the 1825 Tax List Lewis appears as a
saddler, with one cow.
Beginning in 1820, the heirs of Lawrence Clemmer begin to sell
their share of his estate, presumably after the death of the widow.
In 1820 Lewis and Christina Clemmer sell to James P. Carleton; Deed Book
K, page 469.
In 1821 Mary Clemmer Ragan of Muskingum Co., OH, by Jacob Clemmer
attorney in fact, sells to James P. Carleton; Deed Book L, page 249.
In 1821 Jacob Clemmer and Elizabeth Clemmer Shockey sell their share.
In 1822 Barbara Clemmer Hoff sells to James P. Carleton; Deed Book L,
page 384.
Lawrence's older son Jacob Clemmer continues to appear in
Allegany County records and news articles. However, he seems to have
been the last person of the Clemmer name to remain in Allegany County.

Idon't know that I am. My Clemmer line goes back through Andrew J. Clemmer,
s/o Andrew Clemmer, s'o David Fishburn Clemmer to George ludwid Blemmer and
then to Johann Ludwig Clemmer.
All Clemmers are different.
My gang are Mennonites, Pennsylvania etc.
We are ministers, doctors, farmers, and occasionally murderers.
Who are you
Leon Clemmer Architect-Historian
Dear Hal,
This Laurence is the brother of our George Valentine and younger
brother George. He and George Valentine were held as Indian captives.
After Laurence married and had children, the family moved to Cumberland,
Allegany County, MD, where he died in 1808. The older son stayed in
Allegany County, but the younger son Lewis was apprenticed to a
saddlemaker, married the daughter of Rev. John George Butler, the
Lutheran pastor, and moved to Fayette Co., PA, where his cousins lived.
At least one daughter of Laurence moved to Ohio. Estate records in
Allegany County give the names of the two sons and three married
daughters who shared the estate, presumably after the death of the widow.
Let me know if you wish the details.
Agnes
