The online "Clemmer-Klemmer Family and Relatives" says that George Valentine
Clemmer (b. 10 Feb 1747) in Littlestown, Adams Co., PA married Margaret
Wigand but doesn't list Elizabeth Totherow as a wife. It does confirm that
the Lewis Clemmer who married Mary "Mollie" Cloninger was his son.
Does anyone have information on 'William Boyd Clemmer', born 1869 in or
around Dallas, N.C.. I think his brother's name was 'Sid' and he was a
couple years younger. I would appreciate information on him. I would
like to know his father's and mother's names.
Thanks
GREAT ! I look forward to receiveing any thing on Bishop Valentine Clemmer. I
have seen his signature in the Eastern Mennonite Museum.
Did the Bishop marry, did he have Children, who were they, etc ?

Leon: I read with interest (and sympathy) you email re earliest of
Clymer/Klemmer immigrant, that is, Valentine. I sent to one of the Clemmer
researchers, (who are you?) a year or more ago, several papers on the
Montbeliard area of France , including a census there, which included
Valentine. Yes he was a Mennonite. Mennon was in Lyon, France, and
Montbeliard is just east of Lyon. There were Clemmers,a Blossers, and
Neffsin the census. And there was a note that Valentine had left.
ThoughMontbeliard at that time was in what we now call Doubs, France, It was
then a principality of a German Prince. Will whoever received that packet of
material I sent on this subject please arise, and contact Leon and me. Thank
you. Dorothy (Seems like this man lived in Florida) At the time I was too
busy to go dowtown and xerox it, and so sent it with the understanding on my
part that he would read and return. Please do. Thanks
Agness, please confirm that John and brother Andrew Clemmer went to
Montgomery Co OHIO. My notes show Montgomery Co, VA, but may be in error.
Both states have a Montgomery CO. Thanks Charles Hite ----Agness wrote <<

Vivia,
You are talking to a man who just had (3) strokes, brain surgery,
diabetes,
neuropathy, paralized fingers and now I am told I have a diseased heart and
may face
heart by-passes. Even my doctor has had a Parkinson brain operation. So it
goes.
I have been the voice crying in the wilderness. The early Clemmers did
not come on the Alexander and Ann in 1730. The earliest of all was Valentine
Clemmer, Clymer,Klemmer in1712. I have no record of the émigrés between 1712
and 1730. No records were required of arriving ships until 1730. Of course
there is no record of land travel. Immigrants from New York to Philadelphia
are impossible to record.
The Henrick Clemmer with his wife Maria in Franconia is not from the1730
Alexander and Anne. If he is he was a bigamist. We know the Henrick who came
on that ship left his wife in Friedelsheim and came with his son. He probably
went south as many Clemmers did and they were not Mennonites, The Henrick in
Franconia is and was a Mennonite.
My family worshiped and are buried in Hereford, at the Bally Meeting House
My family branch starts with the family being born in the1688.s in
Germany, then to Swamp Meeting in Bucks County outside of Philadelphia then
on to my great-grandfather Pastor Samuel Clemmer coming to head the First
Mennonite Church in Philadelphia as its first minister in 1853 . The first
Mennonite Church in Germantown (1708). was " Old" Mennonite and Sam was "
New" Mennonite.
There,of course, much more.
I don't know if this is any help, or just confusing. It is true, however..

For what it's worth, this exchange of E-mails would indicate to me
that Catherine Clemmer is my second cousin three times removed. I
believe that I am descended from the senior George's brother, Lawrence.

Rick,
I don't know if you have or want this information. Henry Bish married after
1850 Catherine Clemmer (1834, Ohio - aft 1897), the daughter of John L.
Clemmer and Phebe Nevins.
This is all the information I have at present. I am looking for Clemmer
information and have just that about the Bishes. I haven't proven that there
is a relationship with our Clemmers.

Subject: BISH/CLEMMER
I recently discovered that several members of my BISH line migrated to the
Dayton area in the early 1900s. Is anyone researching this line? Does
anyone have further information on these families?
Also, I am wondering if there is a source for copies of obituaries from the
Dayton newspapers from the 1920-30s.
Noah Bish (1843-1922) married Sarah C. Clemmer. Noah died in Montgomery
County, OH
Noah's son, George William Bish (1871-1934) married Clara B. Unknown.
Geroge William died in Dayton.
Noah's nephew, George Ward CLemmer Bish (1870-1936) married Julia Kathryn
Unknown. George Ward died in Greenville, Darke County, Ohio.
George Ward's parents were Henry J. Bish and Catherine Clemmer.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or assistance you can provide.

I live in Cleveland can't find any record of Smith Funeral Home, in
Cleveland or Bradley Co. I also looked in the Chattanooga phone book and
there is no listing for Smith today. I have a friend from Meigs Co. who says
that Decatur has never had a funeral home. I would check further into
Hamilton Co. or either Dayton, TN in Rhea Co. it is right across the river
from Birchwood.
The library at Cleveland, TN has all of TN death records on microfilm from
1909 to 1949. This library is an excellent source of information for the
Southeast area. For anyone searching this area this is a really good place
to start. They have a index for obituaries from local newspapers. They also
have papers from local genealogists, such as "The Sudie Clemmer Collection",
and J. D. Clemmer Scrapbook for Polk Co. The Wooten Scrapbook and Mayfield
Papers for Bradley Co. They have the Swafford/Swofford family history. Among
other sources that I haven't mention. I have found so much about my family
from this type of information.

A History of
The Hereford Mennonite Church
Bally, PA
by
Pastor Douglas L. Good
This information was taken from Amy Histand Gehman, Mary Latshaw Bower.
History of the Hereford Mennonite Congregation at Bally, Pennsylvania. 1936.
CHRISTIAN CLEMMER
Rev. Christian Clemmer was born February 8, 1813 near Clayton, in
Hereford Township, on the old Clemmer farm, formerly the Gehman homestead. He
was the son of George (1786-1864) and Anna Geissinger (1787-1872) Clemmer,
natives of Sellersville, Pennsylvania. He had five brothers and sisters. They
were Catherine
Anna, John, Abraham and Samuel.
Christian's great-grandfather, Henry Clemmer, came to America on the ship
"Alexandria Ann." This ship had 46 passengers and landed at the port off
Philadelphia on September 5, 1730. Christian married Barbara Latshaw Gehman
(August 14, 1815-November 22, 1894), and they had five children: Maria,
Henry, Abraham, Annie, and Malinda. The Clemmer family is one of the oldest
of the Mennonite families in Pennsylvania.
Rev. Christian was first a farmer, and was selected by lot to preach the
Word of God in the Hereford Mennonite Congregation in 1842. He was ordained
to the Gospel ministry on November 17. 1842. He served until 1847 when he,
along with John Oberholtzer (18071895) and others, separated from the
Franconia Conference and formed a new conference. This division also affected
the Hereford Congregation and Christian Clemmer served the progressive group
while his fatherin-law, John Gehman, continued in ministering to the Old
order.
While at a funeral in Oley, Christian Clemmer contracted a cold which led
to his death seventeen weeks afterwards on March 9, 1883. He is buried in the
Union Cemetery in Bally, Pennsylvania.
SAMUEL CLEMMER
The year following Ephraim Hunsberger's removal Wadsworth, Samuel
Clemmer, brother of Rev. Christiam Clemmer was ordained to assist in the
ministry Samuel Was born on August 10, 1821. On November 11 1851 he married
Judith Gerhard (March 18, 1828 August 13, 1895). He served the Hereford
congregatior from 1853 until 1868 when he became the first permanent Pastor
in the First Mennonite Church of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He continued to
serve there until his death on February 16, 1870.
