I am doing the history of our church "Pleasant View United Methodist" near
BLuffton Ohio.
In the history it begins with a church built on land given by Frankey Clymer
who built the first church toward the beginning of the nineteenth century.
I have reviewed a partial list of your book and have not seen any similar
name. Do you know of any Clymers in your ancestors who may have moved to
northwest Ohio in the 1800's. Thank you.

"In the matter of the dead body of Fred Skinner
Coroners Office
Golden, CO.
April 22nd, 1907
Thursday afternoon I received a call telling me that a man had been killed
about 1 mile
below town on the Church ditch and wanting me to investigate which I did and
found a
man by the name of Fred Skinner had been working in the ditch there and
digging a trench to
put in a concrete wall. He was working for the Hinchman and Renton
Fireproofing Co. of
Denver who had the contract. The place where he was working was 18 in.
wide, 10 feet deep,
and about 100 feet long. He had been shoveling when the bank suddenly caved
and he was
buried. Help was right at hand and his head was uncovered in 5 minutes but
he was dead.
He was dug out as soon as I reached the place and I brought him to the
store. I examined
the others who were working there, under oath as per attached afadavit and
decided no
inquestwas necessary, so did not hold one. Skinner was married and left a
wife and baby.
His home was in Provo, Utah, and I shipped the body there Sunday, Apr. 21st,
his wife
bearing the expense. J. Lofton Davidson, Coroner of Jefferson Cnty.
Atached affidavit:
After being sworn, Mr. Wing said:
My name is Walter D. Wing. My home is in Denver. On April 18, 1907, I was
working for
Hinchman and Renton F.P. Company of Denver on a job of concrete work on the
Church
ditch about a mile below Golden in Jefferson County. I was turning a drill
in the trench about
6 feet east of where Fred Skinner was working. The trench was about four
feet deep where
I was working and about ten feet deep where Skinner was at work in the clay.
The first
that I knew that anything was wrong I heard Skinner call out Ho-there or
somthing to that
effect. I heard the dirt cave in and I with the engineer Charles Clymer
jumped out of the
trench and I turned and saw that Skinner had been buried. I said to Casey
and Hogan (two
other men who were working there) hurry up and help dig this man out of here
Skinner is
covered up. We uncovered his head and found that he was dead.
The trench in which Skinner was working was 18 inches wide 100 feet long and
from four to
ten feet deep. I had worked for about fifteen days on this job all times
whether it was
dangerous or not. I heard Mr. Renton one of the firm caution the foremean
to do the work right
as he did not want anyone on the job to be hurt. We always had plenty of
timber ont he job and
the men did the timbering as it was deemed advisable.
I thnk that it was an unavoidable accident and the firm were in no way to
blame. I worked in the
same place at 8 A. M. and Skinner was killed at 2 P. M. I sounded the ground
and it picked firm
and I did not consider that there was any danger. The cave in started right
next to a set of
timbers.
Mr. Skinner was a married man about 22 years of age and leaves a wife and
one baby.
The trench was being dug to put in a concrete wall to prevent the ground
from sliding and to
hold the water in the Church ditch.
Charles Clymer, the Engineer, was in charge of the work at that time. We
went to work as fast as
we could to get Skinner out. We had his head uncovered in five minutes but
he was dead. We
notified Mr. Fred Johnson and he inturn notified the Coroner who was on the
ground in about
half an hour."
Signed/Walter D. Wing
"William Case and Amund Hogan each being separately sworn do say that they
have read the
above statement and are of the same opinion as Mr. Wing. respecting the
occurance of
the accident and the condition of the ground in which the deceased was
working and were
employed in the same capacity and considered it the safest part of the
trench. Mr. Hogan had
worked on the job since its inception and Mr. Case a few days less."

Doing some reading on another topic, I recently learned of a Dr. U.L.
Clemmer who established a "curative water bath" east of Brownsville ca
1859/60. His bio is on p.44 of "The Three Towns" [Second Edition,
1976], with references appearing on pages 13, 14, 26, 42, and 45.
Dr. Clemmer served as an assistant surgeon during the Civil War, and by
1883 was marketing "Dr. U.L. Clemmer's Little Liver Pills" in 10 states.
For more on Dr. Clemmer's "Water Cure", you might want to surf on over
to Glenn Tunney's web site,

haven't seen Glenn's site relating to the history of the Brownsville
area, this would be a good excuse. Scroll down to the search box and
enter "Clemmer" ...

To Clemmer Researchers:
There are a brother and sister named Clemmer in my Rowe Family History.
Their mother was a Rowe. They are Richard W. Clemmer, who was the
producer and director of "One Man's Family" and "The Goldbergs" on radio
and early TV. His sister, Virginia Rowe Clemmer attained the highest
position on the New York Herald Tribune newspaper (for her time).
Many of the Rowes were known for their newspapers and writing books:
George and Amos were two brothers from near Johnstown who went down to
Pleasants County, VA in 1862 and wrote editorials which let to the
succession of WV from VA. They had to sneak out of town at night to
avoid hanging! George went back to Johnstown and took over his father's
newspaper while Amos went out to Wooster, Ohio and started his own
newspaper.
"Rambling in the Valley of Jacobs Creek" is a book written in 1932 by
Abraham Lincoln Rowe and Oliver Perry Medsgar who resided in the Barren
Run area of Westmoreland County. This Rowe's father was a cousin of
those mentioned above. This book is very enlightening about the
development of the Fayette County area along Jacob's Creek. Some
libraries actually have copies of it. It tells of an old cemetery near
the Alliance Furnace which I have not been able to locate. My father
once found it, but said only one stone could still be read. He thought
he could find it again, but I must have jinxed him and we never found it
the day I went with him.
