Hi Leon.......I saw that you had responded to my message about the
Oberholtzer book, but when I went to answer, it had disappeared. Would it be
too much trouble for you to send it to me again? Thanks. Shirley
I would love to see what the book says about Rev. Christian Clemmer, the
" new " mennonites at Skipack and at Bertolets Meetings in 1847. How did
you acquire the book ? Where can I get a copy ?
My Pages say "Elisabeth Clemmer; m Preacher Jacob Oberholtzer who died
1814 son of Jacob and Deborah (Haldeman) Oberhcltzer. This is the son of
the Oberholtzer on board the "Alexander and Anne" , Rev. Christian
Clemmer - 2/8/1813 - 3/9/1883 M. Barbara Gehman - 11/22/1894 preached at
Bertolets Meeting with Rev Oberholtzer after the new Mennonite Church
was formed. Rev Christian Clemmer resigned the Pastorship he held at
the Hereford meeting in order to join Oberholtzer.
Please send me a copy of anything you have on the foregoing. I will host
a meeting of the Bertolet Meeting House in my house tomorrow ( Sunday )

I can verify that the Clemmers and the Rhynes are distantly connected and
the possibility is that they could be a closer relationship that I don't
know about.
This relationship occurs in southeast Tenn in Monroe. (I have communicated
with the person at the Family Hart address previously thru one of the
Tennessee lists).
James Russell Gaston married Charlotte Davis. Charlotte Davis was the
daughter of Suzanna Clemmer and (Charles??) Davis. ( I have the Davis'es
name somewhere but cannot locate it right now).
James Russell's brother was David Gaston. David's daughter Elizabeth
married Jonas Rhyne.

It's time to post again my own information search. Haven't caught any
clues yet on the site, and until I learn something, I don't know which
direction to go.
According to family lore, Eva Clymer was my g-g-g- grandmother,
married to Jacob Finkle. Eva would have been born about 1809. I don't
find them until 1840 census, then in Centre County PA.
Other tidbits:
Good evidence that her husband Jacob Finkle was born and raised in
Lebanon County, PA, so I suppose Eva could have been also. I know a
clan of Clemmer/Clymer came from the Berks/Lebanon County area, but
I've been unable to make a connection.
In the 1850 census, Jacob Finkle's wife is named Catherine. I have no
idea if my grandmother was mistaken in saying that her grandmother's
name was Eva or if Eva died prior to 1850 and Jacob remarried.
Given that 90% of my ancestry is German (PA Dutch) I am assuming that
"Clymer" was anglicized from "Clemmer." Just in case, I have
researched the English Clymer connection and can't find any evidence to
show my ancestor could have been related to that family.
Pretty sure Eva used the name Clymer, rather than Clemmer, because
several of her grandchildren were given the name "Clymer" to honor their
ancestor.
There was an Isaac Clymer in Northumberland County PA around the same
time and was a Civil War veteran. I can't trace his ancestry either,
so I would be interested in finding out if anyone knows about him so I
can search for clues.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Some report Eliz DETTROE, 1st sp of Valentine "Felty" CLEMMER as having
a bro Johannes DETTROE 1746 Germany - 1821 TN.
Can anyone support the "1821 TN"? Or any other dd or dp?
Best, Hal McCawley
any help ?
Christian Clymer of Lower Mllford Township, Bucks Co. His wife's name
was Barbara who died not long before 4/3/1761. Their children were (as
of 1761):
Christian Clymer of Springfield m. Catharine
Jacob m. Esther
John Henry Magdalena m. Peter Mayer
Anna m. John Barkey
Elizabeth m. Conrad Kelly
Esther Catharine m. Isaac Rinker
Martin Clymer
A sometimes unreliable source says that the Clymer (Klemmer) name was
brought to the the United States by two brothers, one of whom was
Christian Clymer(Klemmer). He was born In Germany In 1697, died in 1759,
and Is thought to have emigrated prior to 1730. Christian resided in
what is now Milford Twp., Bucks Co., and his name appeared on the record
as a petitioner to divide the township In 1734. His wife Barbara died
1/14/1776 after giving him seven sons and five daughters, one of whom
was Jacob, b. 1729.lAs his descendants were Mennonites, it is likely
that he was also.
Scattered bits of information about the early Clemmers In Bucks Co.
mention Christian Clemmer, John Jacob Klemmer, and Valentine Clemmer. In
1730-31 Jacob Klemmer of Richland, Jacob Sauder, Philip Keisinger
(c.f.), George Bachman, andJohn Drissel petitioned the assembly to be
naturalized. Also In 1730, thirty-two inhabitants of "Rich lands"
petitioned for a road from the new meeting house to the county line In
order to go to Philadelphia by the Montgomery road. John Jacob klemmer '
was among those who signed. A petition was presented to the
legislature from Inhabitants of Bucks Co. in 1734 stating that they were
petitoners from Germany who, having purchased lands, desired
naturalization so that they may hold same and transmit them to their
children. It was signed by Christian Clemmer and John Jacob Clemmer.
amongothers. On 6/13/1734, those living between the county line and the
section about to be laid out as Richland, petitioned the court to erect
the area they inhabited into a township. This led to the formation of
Lower Milford (later Milford) Twp., Bucks. Co. Sixty-two names appeared
on the petition, including that of Clymer. Finally, John Klemmer is
listed as a land owner In Richland Twp. In 1738-9.

THE INFORMATION BELOW in my note to Pat ALL CAME FROM THIS CLEMMER -LIST ....FROM MARINA MICHAELS

"Pat,
I looked in my file and found 4 of the 5 names you are looking for with similar dates. I have a:
JOHN CLEMMER b.5/12/1794 (Father was Jacob Clemmer b. 2/12/1766)
MARRIED 12/16/1816 TO MAGDELENE (SNYDER) HUNSICKER
SON:JAMES (HUNSICKER) CLEMMER b. 1825
Magdelene parents were Nicholas Beery Hunsicker b. 1757 York County, Pa and Catherine Snyder b. 1758 Hagerstown, MD. I do not know how Jacob Clemmer b. 1766 fits into the Clemmer families on this list and I am not sure where I got the information. Possibly FamilySearchLDS.

FROM MARINA MICHAELS
"Hello everyone. I am stuck at an ancestor named Jacob Clemmer. I don't know if he belongs to a "missing" Clemmer line, or if my data is just
insufficient to connect him to an existing one. Here are two possibilities:
1. This is the same Jacob Clemmer who is elsewhere recorded as being born in December 1766, and who married Ann BLOSSER. In that case,
there is at least one child (my direct ancestor) who is not listed in any of the family trees for that Jacob.
2. This is another Jacob Clemmer, born the same year and probably closely related, however, since the Clemmers and Hunsakers and Rhoads all
seemed to have intermarried a lot, and my line has lots of all of those. :-)
>
are all these names from Tennessee or from Phila ?
I can't prove it yet, but I'll bet the Hendrick ( Alexander and Anne of
1730 ) was a Lutheran who came to Phila in 1730 and never went near
Franconia, became a Mennonite or anything else. The Hendrick and Maria
in the field by the Meeting house is of unknown origin ( to date ).
Leon Clemmer
Woa, Donna this is getting interesting. Would love to have more info on the
Clemmers of Pa since somewhere about that time some began a migration
southward along with several other families. I haven't proven it but
heartily believe they traveled the old wagon road on the eastern side of the
Appalachain Mtns. To eventually settle for a few years in the Lincoln,
Chester and Gaston county NC areas. I realize this isn't the Hunsucker line
but unfortunately I have not had the time to research them very much. I
have heard Valentine Clemmer mention to a brief extent before....just don't
ask me where yet *G*.
If you have info on the sinister Valentine, I would be very interested in
hearing about him.
