Agnes: Thanks for your email. Yes, I shall dig it out of the box, and mail
it to you. I shall send the negatives, and you can have a quality copy
made--much better than a xerox copy. Glad to meet another Clemmer researcher
and "cousin" I believe that you have been very helpful to Carol Hackney.
Right? Dorothy
Dear Dorothy,
Could you send me a copy of the picture of old Jacob Clemmer,
born 1766 ?
He is the nephew of my George Valentine Clemmer, who died in 1785. That
would be a treasure. Both my paternal grandparents have Clemmer descent.
Would be happy to reimburse your cost.

Hello to All,
When Lewis Clemmer, son of Lawrence, moved from Allegany Co., MD
up to Fayette County, PA, it was no doubt to join the family of his uncle
Jacob/Jasper/Casper Clemmer, who appeared there in the 1800 Census, in
Springhill Township..
Much of the information I have on the family of Jacob/Jasper comes
from Gordon C. Baker, a descendant of this family. Do not have an e-mail
address for him. Gordon states that Jacob was married March 12, 1766 in
York Co., PA to Anna Barbara Neff, dau. of Jacob and Elizabeth Neff.
York County PA Church Records show these baptisms:
At Blymir's (St. John's) Union Church:
Anna Maria Klemner of Caspar and wife, Barbara, born December 14, 1767,
baptized March 15, 1768. Witness: Anna Maria Schucher.
John Klemmer of Caspar and Barbara Klemmer, born April 3, 1769,
baptized Apr 6, 1769. Witnesses: John ? and his wife, Anna Elizabeth.
At First Reformed and Trinity First Reformed Church, York,
John Jacob of Caspar Klemmasch and Barbara, born January 10, 1766,
baptized March 4, 1766. Sponsors: Mattheus Trorbach and wife.
Gordon states that Jacob Clemmer, born abt 1766 in Hopewell
Township of York Co., PA, married about 1790 to Catherine Blosser,
daughter of John and Catherine Beery(Bieri) Blosser. Jacob died after
1850. Gordon gives this list of children:
Joseph Clemmer married Elizabeth Drayer
Barbara Clemmer married Joseph Gans
Lewis Clemmer
Jasper Clemmer married Delilah Neal
Andrew Clemmer married Maria Halfin
Elizabeth Clemmer
Brothers and sisters of Jacob Clemmer, who lived in Fayette Co., PA,
were:
Mary Clemmer, born 14 Dec 1767, married John Blosser, son of John and
Catherine Beery Blosser. Mary died 9 Sep 1854; both are buried in the
Cagey Cemetery.
John Clemmer, born 3 April 1769, with wife in 1820 Census of Fayette
Co., PA.
Elizabeth Clemmer married Israel Rhodes.
Andrew Clemmer born about 1777 and married to Miriam Rhodes. This
family moved to Adams Co., OH, where Andrew died in 1852.
Welcome more information about this family.

30 years ago. We are from the westbank-side of the lower Rhine-River Valley,
from a place
called Bruehl, between Bonn and Cologne. What we know about our family is
that my
grandfather Nikolaus or as he was known as "Nikla", is from what is called
the greater
Cologne-Bonn region including the part called "Vorgebirge" which is the
preceeding region of
the Eiffel-Ardennes Moun- -tainchain on the western outskirts of the Cologne
Bay area, so
called because the Northsea was once right there, not where it is now. Now,
I don't want to
make things longer than necesary. My e-mail adress is dbbiteh(a)mpsnet.com.mx

Dear Mary, and Clemmer List,
Lewis Clemmer who married Christina Butler is the son of
Lawrence and Anna Maria Clemmer, who moved from York Co., PA , perhaps
pausing in Frederick Co., MD, to Allegany County, MD. Lawrence purchased
a lot in Cumberland on 23 Oct 1803, Deed Book D, p. 80.
There Lawrence died in 1808, leaving a widow, who applied for
letters of administration on his estate on 25 March 1808, and children.
Lawrence's inventory included a set of joiner tools. He was probably in
Allegany County as early as 1798, when estate accounts were paid to him.
Probably Anna Maria died by 1820, when the five children
received a share of the lot in Blocher Addition of Cumberland. The
children were: Jacob, who married Maria;
Anna Maria, who married _____ Ragan, and moved to Muskingum Co., OH;
Elizabeth, who married Valentine Shockey; Barbara, who married Frederick
Hoff; and Lewis, who married Christina Butler.
These baptismal records have been found: At Christ Reformed
Church, Littlestown, PA, Jacob, born 19 Jan 1780; Anna Maria, born 20
Feb 1782 and baptized 12 May 1782, with Elisabetha Dentlinger(in) as
sponsor. At Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick, MD, Susanna,
baptized 12 Aug 1787. Perhaps Susanna died young, before the lot was
divided.
On June 9, 1812, Lewis Clemmer was apprenticed to Peter
Lowdermilk, sadler,
"till he arrive at the age of twenty-one years the said apprentice is
eighteen years of age on yesterday".
Lewis Clemmer married Christina Butler, with Allegany Co., MD
marriage license dated April 26, 1815. Christina was the daughter of the
Rev. John George Butler, the Lutheran minister in Cumberland. He named
his children in his will in Allegany County. There is no mention of the
Clemmer family in the early Lutheran records in Cumberland, so presumably
they were Reformed.
Lewis and Christina were living in Fayette Co., PA, in 1820
when he sold his share of his father's lot. He appears on an 1825 Tax
List there as a sadler.
>From The History and Genealogy of Fayette Co., PA, Vol. VI, # 2 (July
1986):
"Lewis Clemmer, a soldier of the War of 1812, died June 6, 1867, aged 73
years. In 1861 Mr. Clemmer worked on artillery harness for Amzi S.
Fuller and E. B. Wood, and while here employed was married to Miss Polly
Lewis of Morgantown Street."
Vol. III, # 2 published a list of pensioners in 1883 in Fayette County,
PA.
"Mary Clemmer of Uniontown P.O. Widow of soldier 1812. Monthly Pension:
$8.00.
Lawrence Clemmer, of course, was one of the sons of Ludwig
Klemmer, who was killed in 1756 in an Indian attack on the Conococheague
settlement, in an area now in Washington Co., MD. Sons Valentine and
Lawrence are believed to have been
held captive in Chief Will's village, near present Cumberland, MD.
Interesting that Lawrence should have returned to the scene of his
youthful captivity!
My descent is from Valentine, who died in York Co., PA in 1785,
and whose widow and children moved to NC. Curiously, I live in Allegany
Co., MD (that's how it is spelled).
Agnes

don't know where they came from,
and the people that do I sorry to say are dead. The others that are alive,
are as 'lost' as Iam. Our G.G.G. Grandfather... maybe one more great ...
was Lewis Clemmer. He
married Christina Butler. They had two sons Upton Lawrence Clemmer & Gideon

becoming one
he open up a school to teach others to be doctors. Then he moved to
Brownsville, and
married Adelia Massey. They had several Children, ...one was Lawrence, who
also produced a son named Evert. Evert married Emma Smith. They lived on
Liberty St. in
Smithfield, Pa. at one time owned the largest farm. From their six
children, the first
