Best Libraary researcher I have seen. Take a look at these census figures;
there was a female in John Clemmer's household the correct age for your
Elizabeth who married Jacob Cloninger; and this John Clemmer did go to Monroe
Co TN ca 1825. However if your Elizabeth Cloninger was a maiden Clemmer d/o
John, then it appears unusual for said John Clemmer's brother
and sister to marry siblings of Jacob Cloninger who married said John
Clemmer's daughter. Different generations. { not impossible, but unusual}.

This website has the Dallas NC Clemmer history. I wrote it based on data
collected by John Clemmer; and his son, Jeff Clemmer posted it as a website, a
CLEMMER group effort. There is now and addition of NC land deeds, court
records collected by Lenny Clemmer.

I don't have the marriage bond record for Jacob Cloninger, Sr. and
Elizabeth Clemmer. I do have the marriage date of June 24, 1810 in
Lincoln County, North Carolina. Is there someone in Lincoln county who
could do a look up for me and see what the marriage record says? I
would really appreciate it.

Jean, Guess my first reply was a little ambiguous. I do NOT think Elizabeth
who married Jacob Cloninger was a CLEMMER, much less the daughter of Valentine
Clemmer d. 1784. Hope you don't have a marriage bond to prove me wrong :).
The oldest male children of Valentine Felty Clemmer d. 1784 and wife Elizabeth
Margaret Dettero Clemmer were born ca 1778, and thus were NOT old enough to
have a daughter born 1794 as was Elizabeth, wife of Jacob Cloninger. About
1825, John Clemmer s/o Valentine Clemmer d. 1784 led an exodus from Dallas NC
to Monroe Co TN, where your TN data starts. However note birthdate for John
per from our book:
2. John Ludwig Clemmer married Hanna Hoffman daughter of Jacob Hoffman II.
About 1826 he and his children made an exodus to Brakehill, Tennessee near
Madisonville, in Monroe Co TN. He
is buried there and his stone reads"born l2.27.1778, died 6.24.1827". Hanna
Hoffman Clemmer is buried beside him and her stone reads" died 12.10-1866 age
about 79 years". They were the
pioneer Clemmer family in Tennessee.

paper re this. Send me your address, and I will send you a xerox c opy of it.

I realize that "Our Kin" is wrong. That is why I was asking if someone
knew who the correct father for Elizabeth Clemmer who married Jacob
Cloninger, Sr. was.
Jacob Cloninger, Jr. married Margaret Lineberger. He was, indeed, a
Lutheran minister. My grandfather (his grandson) gave Jacob's family
Bible to a small church in North Florida for the church's 100th
anniversary. Unfortunately, my grandfather did not copy any family
information which may have been contained in the family Bible before
giving it away. The Bible is now lost.
Jacob Cloninger, Jr. was born October 3, 1826 in North Carolina and died
May 29, 1904 in Monroe County, TN. He is buried in the old St. Paul's
Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Monroe County, TN. Margaret
Lineberger was born September 25, 1824 and died November 29,1904 in
Monroe County, TN. She is also buried in the old St. Paul's Evangelical
Lutheran Church Cemetery in Monroe County, TN. (There is also a "new"
St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery that was created when the church was
moved.) The children of Jacob Cloninger, Jr. and Margaret Lineberger
were:
Belle Cloninger who married Frank Kinser
John L. Cloninger who married Nancy Boggard and Hattie Dixon
Katie Cloninger who was twin to Michael
Michael Cloninger who was twin to Katie
Mary Elizabeth Cloninger born April 15, 1866.
There may have been two more children in this family. Phebe Cloninger
who was born about January 1849 and died June 1849. Nancy J. Cloninger
who was born about January 1850 and died before 1866 when I believe the
tintype of the Jacob Cloninger family was taken. The photograph only
contains Jacob, Margaret, Belle holding Mary Elizabeth as an infant,
John L. and the twins, Michael and Katie. I believe the picture must
have been taken shortly before the twins died.
Michael and Katie were carrying lunch to their father in the field one
day along with a bucket of water between them. Lightning hit the bucket
and electrocuted both of them. They were about 10 years old. I have
not yet found birth or death dates for them since I haven't been able to
located the Bible.
Mary Elizabeth Cloninger was born April 15, 1866 in Chattanooga,
Hamilton County, TN, and died June 26, 1945 in Athens, McMinn County,
TN. She is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN. She
married Aaron Tyson Stanford (not Leland as "Our Kin" says) on June 27,
1889 in Columbia County, FL. I have a beautiful color copy of her
marriage certificate. The children of Mary Elizabeth Cloninger and
Aaron Tyson Stanford were Leland Tyson Stanford and Aaron Cleveland
Stanford.
Leland Tyson Stanford was born May 5, 1890 in McMinn County, TN and died
September 1924. He is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Chattanooga.
Aaron Cleveland Stanford was born April 20, 1892 in Athens, McMinn
County, TN and died March 25, 1981 in Athens, McMinn County, TN. He is
buried in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Athens, TN. He married Gracie Mae
Vandergriff on July 30, 1921 in Chattanooga, Hamilton County, TN.
Gracie Mae Vandergriff was born July 11, 1903 and died April 14, 1993.
She is buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Athens, TN. A. C. "Pete"
Stanford and Gracie Mae Vandergriff had 5 children. I am one of their
grandchildren.
Mary Elizabeth Cloninger Stanford lived with A. C. and Gracie Mae
Stanford from the time they married until she died.
Jacob Cloninger, Sr. married (1) Elizabeth Clemmer on June 24, 1810 in
Lincoln County, NC, and (2) Jane B. Hamilton. Jacob Cloninger, Sr. is
buried in Polk County, TN.
Below is census information for Jacob Cloninger, Sr.

no, no, no. This is NOT the same Felty. Fely died in Lancaster Co. and has
no known relatives. He might might be linked to the Hunsickers in
Montgomery Co. but that is as far as it goes. As for the book "Our Kin", it
is unknown to me, but I find it strange that something so far off
geographically would dare put Felty in relationship with anyone where no
one in Lancaster or Montgomery counties has been able to link him up. It's
not even suspect, it's just plain wrong.

CANADIANS
On the sixth day God turned to the angel Gabriel and said, "Today
I am going to create a land called Canada. It will be a land of
outstanding natural beauty, it shall have tall majestic mountains
full of mountain goats and eagles, beautifully sparkling lakes
bountiful with carp and trout, forests full of elk and moose,
high cliffs overlooking sandy beaches with an abundance of sea
life, and rivers stocked with salmon."
God continued, "I shall make the land rich in oil so to make the
inhabitants prosper, I shall call these inhabitants Canadians,
they shall be known as the friendliest people on the Earth."
"But Lord," asked Gabriel, "don't you think you are being too
generous to these Canadians?"
"Not really," replied God, "just wait and see the neighbors I am
going to give them!"
Jean, I do not think Elizabeth, who married Jacob Cloninger
Sr, was a d/o Valentine Felty Clemmer d. 1784 Littlestown PA. -No Elizabeth
is listed on the 1784 legal will, and as you pointed out, her dates don't add
correctly. Also there was a Jacob Cloninger Jr and Sr, so perhaps this is
source of problem. Could you post/email neighbors or
census data for 1850 Polk Co TN on Elizabeth Clononger? The folowing two
marriages are
also listed in OUR Kin as siblings of Jacob Cloninger, and appear correct:
p. 152, 3, Mollie{Cloninger} m. Lewis Clemmer s/o pioneer Felty Clemmer
p.152, 3, Adam {Cloninger} m. Susan Clemmer d/o Pioneer Felty Clemmer
Mary Dorsey has submitted a couple unknown pictures which I have uploaded.
Can someone in our group help her by identifying these fine looking people?
Danny/Nancy Clemmer

Our Kin is wrong, I have pointed this erroneous publication out even before it
was published. Bishop Valentine "Felte" Clemmer, the pioneer, was sent to
America in 1712, he lived in Swamp Pennsylvania. The Bishop signed the "
Dortrecht Confession of Faith " in 1725. No wife, offsprings or siblings have
been verified. The Valentine you write about is NOT this
" the Pioneer " Bishop Clemmer.

"Our Kin" lists Elizabeth Clemmer who married Jacob Cloninger, Sr. as
the daughter of Valentine "Felty" Clemmer (the pioneer) and Margaretha
Dettero (Totherow). I have Felty Clemmer born (or christened) February
10, 1747 and died October 7, 1785. On the 1850 Polk County, TN census,
Elizabeth is listed as being 56 years old which would mean that she was
born about 1794. That means that she was born 9 years after the death
of her father.
Does anyone know who the father of Elizabeth Clemmer who married Jacob
Cloninger, Sr. was?
