Dear Earl,
Believe you descend from George Ludwig Clemmer, born about 1754
or 1755,
in PA or MD. He was raised in York Co., PA, where he married and had a
number of children, including your John, before moving to the Shenandoah
Valley of Virginia.
John Clemmer was born 14 March 1786 and baptized 2 July 1786 at
St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church at Littlestown, Germany
Township, PA (then in York Co., now in Adams County). Baptismal sponsors
were John and Eva Weikert.
George Ludwig Clemmer and family moved to Virginia, where
additional children were born. John married Phebe Nevius on 17 Feb 1812
in Rockbridge Co., VA. I'm told that John and family moved to Preble
Co., OH while his brothers Andrew and David moved to Montgomery Co., OH.
Brother George remained in Virginia, where there are still Clemmers, I'm
told.
The baptisms of several of the children in PA show that the
mother's name was Magdalena; Modlena is often a nickname for Magdalena.
However, I had not known her surname.
The only mention of Merediths, before the Clemmers left PA, in
the books I have: the records of the Rev. John Cuthbertson, a
Presbyterian minister, show:
Marriage of Francis Meredith and Sister Burns, 15 Jan 1760, and the
baptism of their son, Thomas, on 1 Aug 1762.
Of course, Magdalena, whose first child was born in September,
1775, could not be a child of this couple. But they were living in the
area now in Adams County.
Do you have evidence that Magdalena/Modelena was a Meredith ?
There is more to the story of this Clemmer family.
Agnes

Anyone have data here?? Subj: Klemme/Klemmer Date: 99-10-19 From:
christaajmk(a)rmci.net (Christa Klemme) To: WHITE81429(a)aol.com Mr. Hite,
I married into the Klemme family from UT; who prior to UT came from Missouri.
Could you tell me if the Klemme family could be de
ndants of the Klemmer and/or Clemmer family. Have you heard of Klemmer's
dropping the "r"? I am interested in Genealogy research and want to make sure
I am going in the right directions. Any help would be appreciated.
Sincerely, C. Klemme Reply, C
ista, your variation sure looks like Clemmer or German Klemmer. We have a
free Clemmer List owned by Danny Clemmer to discuss our ancestors. You could
post you line there and see if anyone can help you.
