As if I didn't have enough to do, I have started a new project. I have
added a page to my site where I will post Clemmer (and related spellings)
obituaries. Because the female line tends to get lost I will also post
other names which connect to Clemmer. Right now I'm just getting started
and there are not very many. As time goes on and the list grows, I will
separate the names to allow quick loading. For now, the few that are there
are sorted alphabetically on one page. Just click on "Obituaries" to the
left of the man page.
If anybody would care to contribute I will be happy to add them. New or
old, it makes no difference I will post them all. I do currently have
several to add so don't expect overnight posting.

Hal, am no expert on John Clemmer to TN-----Louisa Clemmer[d/o John and
Hannah Hoffman Clemmer] m. Jonathan Detherow-----Per "Our
Kin" John Clemmer has a tombstone with b.1778-d.1827, so he died in TN 1827.
Have seen his death date as 1837, 10 years later. You need to verify date on
his stone. Your Anna Clemmer was born 7-12-1812, and married John Youn, so it
seems probable she married in TN after age 15. Charles Hite
Hi Charles, Would you know which of the TOTHEROWs went from Dallas, NC to TN in
1827 with John CLEMMER?
What is the support for the 1827 date? The date is critical to me in determining
where their dau Anna m my gf John David YOUNG, and therefore, whether he was a
Carolinian or "of TN".

Elizabeth Margartet, widow of Valentine Clemmer dec 1785, Littlestown PA, may
have been a maiden Dettero or Totero or Totherow. Some
Totherow went from Dallas NC to TN in 1827 with John Clemmer. Has anyone
found this name in PA? Mr Len Clemmer suspects George and John Clemmer in
Dallas owned
land in 1815 that once belonged to John Dettero, and we can find no deeds
where they bought the land. Thanks Charles Hite
Something like 47th annual Clemmer reunion was held in Dallas NC, just north
of Gastonia, NC, and about 60 people attended. The area was Lincoln Co NC
until ca 1848. Johnny and Lenny Clemmer gave some history. As usual many
still believe, without any proof, that the "Our Kin" story of Valentine
Clemmer from Littlestown PA to Gaston Co NC to Monroe Co TN with son John
Clemmer. The only Valentine Clemmer in NC records is the son of George
Clemmer(wife Hanna Smith) buried beside his father in the Clemmer-Lineberger
cemetery. -Valentine Clemmer, the father of the Dallas NC children died in
Littlestowen PA in 1785, and a copy of his probated legal will is available
from the court records. -Mr Len Clemmer has sifted thru all the Lincoln Co
records, even in the Raleigh NC archives, and there is no deed, census, tax
list, gravesite, for any Valentine Clemmer, other than the son of George
Clemmer. Valentine Clemmer b. 1747 d. 1785 in PA would have been almost
80years old when his son John went from Dallas to TN ca 1827. The possibility
that he remarried and headed west at that age are remote. Charles Hite
Way back in Feb. of this year, mention was made of an annual Clemmer reunion
which is held the second weekend of Aug. every year. Did anybody attend?
If so how about a report.

I am glad to hear about the Clemmer list. I frankly don't know if I
have Clemmer blood or not - Clemmer/Clymer. But this seems like a good
place to look for some answers.
My g-g-g-grandmother was Eva Clymer. She married John Finkle, probably
around 1830, I know not where.
My grandmother (the source of much of my baseline genealogical data)
told me that Eva was descended from George Clymer, the Signer and
financier of the Revolution. My grandmother has proven be be
consistently and remarkably accurate, but I had dismissed this
connection since George was a Philadelphian and virtually all my family
came from Central Pennsylvania.
Several bits of information have made me think that there might, after
all, be a connection. First, I read that Elizabeth Meredith Clymer,
wife of George the Signer, died in Northumberland County in 1815.
Secondly, I found an account of the Meredith family, accompanied by a
Clymer, exploring large family land-holdings in Sullivan County PA in
1804. These may serve to move that family closer to "my part" of
Pennsylvania.
The bottom line is that I would be grateful for any information on Eva
Clymer (I estimate, born ca. 1805), her husband John Finkle, or any
of their vital statistics, where they were from, etc. Any help is
greatly appreciated!!

Hite---Leon, I read the above to say Bishop Felty Clemmer(Mennonite preacher)
was sent from Holland. Therefore if that Bishop Felty Clemmer was also a
Palatine refugee from Friedelsheim, Germany, there is a good chance the
Palatine refugee Felty Clemmer sent back to Holland in 1710 was the
same man who was sent to PA in 1717. Has anyone searched in Holland(not
Germany) for Bishop Valentine Clemmer, converted Mennonite, originally from
the Palatine region of
Germany? Having Lodwig Clemmer, and Valentine Clemmer as Palatine immigrants,
and
both in London 1710 is quite a coincidence. Plus the Valentine Clemmer was
trying to get
to America or he would not have been in London. Thus he would have
volunteered for this job in America.

Donna, GUILFORD CO. NC was Formed 1770 from Rowan Co & Orange Co NC. -
Therefore your marriage bond was for Guilford Co, NOT Orange Co NC. Check the
1790 NC federal census or the 1784 NC State census for Guilford Co NC.

Donna, on the 1790 Orange Co census, there is no Climer or Henece listed,
married 1792 per your info. --However on page 97 are Thomas Clements &
John Hinshery, fairly close sound alikes. Do you have any Orange Co deeds,
marriage extracts with witnesses, etc ? Charles Hite
Does any of this mean anything to anyone out there???
I am trying to get started on my Mothers side...

Hi, Interesting how we draw conclusions! My ancestor Johannes ZEH was also among
those 1710 Platinates to NY and I thought they were the only ones going down the
Rhine in 1709!
My ZEHs went to the Schoharie area of NY, to Berks Co, PA, and later became SEEs
in Hardy Co, WV in 1740s. Sounds like you have read the same books that I have.

Hi Charles, Besides being a CLEMMER of NC, I also descend from the German SEEs
that came to present day Hardy Co, WV during the same era that my MCCAULEY &
MARQUIS as well as your HITE ancestors were coming to Frederick Co, VA. I also
believe that my SEEs descend from the Johannes ZEH that came with the 1710
Platinates to NY, went on to Schoharie, & whose son Geo went on to Tulpehochen Cr
area of Berks Co, PA & then came on to Hardy Co in 1740s.
My question would be, have you found any ship records for that 1710 group?
Also, was your Jost HITE a Presbyterian & land developer in Fred Co, VA?
Best, Hal McCawley in CA
PS- I concur with your comment on religions and Queen Anne.
