Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hello everybody:
I have had some spare time on my hands and thought I see if I could drum up
a little business. I have gone back over old messages sent to the list and
entered the names into a database. Along with these names, I have placed
the name an/or email address of the person who submitted these. Using
Ged2HTML I then transfered these to files and uploaded them to my web site;
http://clemmer.org/more/surname2.html . For now, I have created no link nor
have I advertized the address other than here. My reasoning is to allow
people enough time to voice there opinion and correct any errors they my
find. If you do not wish to have your email address included please just
drop me a quick line and I'll remove your entries. On the other hand, if
you would like some exposure submit away.
Ged2HTML allows for a lot of customization but I'm not exactly an expert so
be kind in requesting any major changes
Wouldn't you know it, just as I'm ready to go to press, Gene Stark releases
a new update to Ged2html. Well it's too late to do anything about it now so
I'll just have to suffer along with the old version. I really have not had
a chance to check it out. next time.

If anyone has data to add here, please do so. Has anyone found deeds, patents
for any land Ludwig Clemmer owened in Maryland, probably Frederick Co MD,
before he was killed by Indians near hagerstwon in 1756?-----Data based on
book by Annette Burgert, "York Co. PA, Pioneers from Friedelsheim-
Gonnsheim, Palatinate, Germany". Abstracted by Dorothy Creely, data entered
by Charles
Hite--------Data on the Bockle-Beckle family---Ludwig Clemmer married, in 1742
in
Friedelsheim, Germany to Marie Elizabeth Bockle, and they were in Littlestown,
PA when
there daughter was Christened in 1747 at Christ Lutheran Church. Both Ludwig
and wife
Marie Clemmer were killed by Indians in August 1756 near Hagerstown, Maryland,
just
below Littlestown, PA. -The wife of said Ludwig Clemmer was Marie Elizabeth
Bockle
Clemmer born ca 1718, the daughter of Johans Adam Bockle, and Salome Sinn(d/o
Heinrich
Sinn). In 1722 the widow Salom Sinn Bockle married her 2nd husband, the
widower,
Gabriel Schultz(Schultheiss). Said Gabriel had by his first wife, Anna
Margaret(d.1721), sons
Martin Schultz and John Schultz. Said Martin Schultz from Friedelsheim
Germany to York-
Adams Co PA in 1731, and his brother John Schultz followed in 1742.
Therefore, Ludwig
Clemmer's wife, Marie Elizabeth Bockle Clemmer, was a step-sister to Martin,
and John
Schultz, who came to America before her.
The Christian Clemmers of Bucks County predate the Henry Clemmers of
Montgomery County. The relationships between these two families has never been
definitely ascertained. Henry Clemmer and the Montgomery County Clemmers and
Christian Clemmers of the Bucks Co is even more puzzzling when the
relationship of any of the Clemmers is considered with the famous first
Mennonite Bishop in America, Bishop FelteValentine Clemmer, who it is said
arrived in America, 1717
CHRISTIAN CLEMMER 1697?-1759?
This particular branch of the Clemmer family can be reliably
documented back to Christian Clymer of Lower M illford Township, Bucks Co. His
wife's name was Barbara who died not long before 4/3/1761. Their children
were (as of 1761):
Christian Clymer of Springfield m. Catharine
Jacob m. Esther
John
Henry
Magdalena m. Peter Mayer
Anna m. John Barkey
Elizabeth m. Conrad Kelly
Esther
Catharine m. Isaac Rinker
Martin Clymer
A sometimes unreliable source says that the Clymer (Klemmer) name was
brought to the United States by two royal brothers, one of whom was Christian
Clymer, (Klemmer). He was born ln Germany ln 1697, died in 1759. Christian is
thought to have emigrated to Pennsylvania prior to 1730.
Christian resided in what is now Millford Twp., Bucks Co., and his name
appeared on the record as a petitioner to divide the township in 1734. His
wife Barbara died 1/14/1776after giving him seven sons and five daughters, one
of whom was Jacob, b.1729. As his descendants were Mennonites. it is likely
that he was also.Scattered bits of information about the early Clemmers in
Bucks Co. mention Christian Clemmer, John Jacob Klemmer, and Valentine
Clemmer. In 1730-31 JacobClemmer of Richland, Jacob Sauder, Phillip K
eisinger, George Bachman, and John Drissel petitioned the assembly to be
naturalized. Also ln 1730, thirty-two lnhabitants of "Rich lands" petitioned
for a road from the new meeting house to the county line in order to go to
Philadelphia by the Montgomery road. John Jacob Klemmer was among those who
signed. A petition was presented to the legislature from inhabitants of Bucks
Co. ln 1734 stating that they were petitioners from Germany who, having
purchased lands, desired naturalization so that they may hold same and
transmit them to their children. It was signed by Christian Clemmer and John
Jacob Clemmer, among others.

George Ludwig Klemmer (1753 - 1828)
Last Will and Testament (June 28, 1819)
transcribed by J. Jeffrey Clemmer and John F. Clemmer III
In the name of God, Amen. This 28th day of June One Thousand Eight
Hundred and Nineteen, I George Klemmer of the County of Rockbridge
and State of Virginia, being weak of body, yet of sound mind and
memory, calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that
it is appointed to all men once to die, do make this my last will
and testament. And in the first place I bequeath that I be buried
with a decent burial and in the second place I bequeath to my
beloved wife, Modlena, the whole of my estate real and personal
during her natural life should she survive me to do with as she
shall think fit and any of my personal estate that the said
Modlena, my wife, shall think proper to sell during her natural
life and the price to be put to bear interest and in the third
place I bequeath to my oldest son George L. Klemmer one hundred
dollars to be paid or taken out of my estate for services that the
said son George L. Klemmer is to perform. And in the next place, I
bequeath to Andrew Klemmer, David Klemmer, Mary Klemmer Brosius,
wife of Jacob Brosius, John Klemmer, Elizabeth Klemmer Lunceford,
wife of Reuben Lunceford, all to have an equal share of my estate.
After that I have bequeathed to my daughter, Peggy Klemmer, her
quota with the hundred dollars above mentioned to George L.
Klemmer and a small legacy to my daughter Polly Klemmer McCormick,
wife of William McCormick. I bequeath to my daughter Polly
McCormick, wife of William McCormick, the sum of five dollars to
be paid one year after my decease. And in the next place I
bequeath to my daughter Peggy and equal share with the rest of the
legacies and one hundred dollars more than any of them except my
son George L. Klemmer. And I bequeath to Francis, Peggy's son,
that she now has the amount of bond that is on John Lowman with
the interest on the same until paid and the said money to be
appropriated to the education of the said son.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 28th
day of June One Hundred Thousand Eight Hundred and Nineteen.
Signed, sealed, and delivered in the presence of William Foster,
James Alexander, and John Nevius
I do appoint Modlena, my wife, and George L. Klemmer, my son, to
be the executors of this my last will and testament.
Signed in the presence of William Foster, James Alexander, and
John Nevius.
At Rockbridge County Courthouse, Virginia on November 25, 1828
This writing purporting to be the last will and testament of
George Ludwig Klemmer deceased was produced in court proved by the
oaths of James Alexander and John Nevius, two of the subscribing
witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and Modlena Klemmer,
the executor named in the said will having by writing which was
proved affirmed to take upon herself the executor of said will who
made oath, and together with John Nevius, his security entered
into and acknowledged bond in the sum of one thousand dollars
according to law certificate, was granted him to obtain probate
thereof in our form of law.
Thank you for the invitation to the Clemmer reunion. I'd love to be there,
but a trip to North Carolina just isn't possible this year.
I know you will all have fun and exchange information about your most recent
discoveries about Valentine Clemmer's descendents.

Reply to post on George Ludwig Clemmer 3 generations. Just trying to keep
our data as correct as possible. -- Re: George Ludwig Clemmer Senior was born
1754 in York Co PA, and died in 1828 at age 74 in Rockbridge Co VA. per post.
If this is correct, his son George Ludwig Clemmer Junior
born in Augusta per post, could not have been born before his father,George
Sr, was at least 16 to 21 years old, thus between 1770-1775. Since George
Ludwig Jr died 9-15-1861 per the post, if he was born in 1775, he would have
died at age 86years, so it doesn't seem probable he was born much before 1775.
Therefor, George Ludwig Clemmer Junior would only be 4years old when Andrew
Clemmer(#7) was born in 1779; and only 5years when David Fishborn Clemmer was
born, etc---------Also, since #6 Elizabeth Clemmer was born in Littlestown PA
in 1795, her father George Ludwig Clemmer Junior was not born in Augusta Co
VA, because George Ludwig Clemmer Sr was known to be in Littlestown, PA in
1775, the family having passed thru the port of Philadelphia, and moved west
to Littlestown, before moving into VA after 1785.

veritable bonanza of information!! Wow! Thank you for putting it on the

info on Mary(Polly) Withers, who married a George Clemmer, Jr., whose
