I'm just starting to put together some information on the Clemmer family. I
have a great great grandmother -- Sarah Jane Clemmer born 20 Oct 1845 in
virginia. Does this tie into any of your records? Thanks

..
Mary Jane Climer was born 1821 in Orange Co. NC, she married Joseph W.
Freeland in Guilford CO. NC. on Sept 10 1843, by 1845 they had move to
Carroll CO. Tenn. with the Haywood, Morris and others Orange CO. families.
Joseph's family was very active in the New Hope Church of Orange CO. PLEASE
can someone help me find Mary Jane Climer's parents. Thanks Donna
Talking to others in the family is a must. Also, Some local libraries have
extensive information. My hometown (Gastonia, NC) is small, but has an entire
room set aside for such information. My mother spent many hours there and got
LOTS of information.
Congratulations on being bit with the geneaology bug. The very first place to
start is with the older people in your clan. Take the time to talk to them,
and use a tape recorder so you're not distracted by note taking. Usually,
they'll be so thrilled to tell about the old days, you may have trouble
leaving. Be sure to collect anecdotes about family members as well as
relatives. I use Family Tree Maker to keep track of everyone, and I really
like it.
You should also take advantage of your summer off to talk to the Mormon's as
they have extensive records. You can call your local temple and find out how
to access the records.
Here's a web address to get you started. You can search this site by
individual state. <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohgenweb/"> </A>

Good luck.

I happened onto your web page and found it very interesting. I, myself, am
not a Clemmer, but I have friends who are. In fact my mother grew up in a
place called McKinley, Virginia with Clemmers as neighbors. A principal of a
high school in Covington, Virginia is a part of that clan. All these places
is with in a 65 - 70 mile radius of each other. I am thinking of starting a
dig into my family history. My mother was a Sensabaugh from the McKinley area
and my father is a McCutchen from the Augusta County area of Virginia. Any
suggestions as to where to begin? I am a school teacher and don't have time to
stomp the graveyards. Most of the research will have to be via internet or a
few weeks in the summer time. Have a good day.
