Clemmer/Clymer Researchers:
I have compiled a list of references from Hoenstine's Bibliography of
Pennsylvania Genealogy. This at least used to be a lending (for-fee)
library in Hollidaysburg PA. I have encountered their bibliography and
found it helpful in searching for Pennsylvania families. I hope this
helps someone, especially some of the more obscure titles and family
genealogy compilations.

in my semi-vast collection of books on my family I came across this, perhaps
you or your subscribers would be interested. It is from the book " an
Introduction to Mennonite History " by Cornelius J. Dyck 1967.
MENNONITES
The oldest conference in the Mennonite Church, Franconia began in 1683 and
became the Germantown congregation north of Philadelphia. From there a
daughter congregation, Skippack, was started in 1702. In the next few decades
the other congregations of the Franconia Conference were established. Most of
these were located in what are now Montgomery and Bucks counties. Settlements
were also made in neighboring counties, such as Chester, Berks, Lehigh, and
Northampton. But the bulk of the Mennonites of the Franconia Conference live
within a fifteen-mile radius of Souderton, a town within Montgomery County but
near the Bucks County line.
In 1710, just eight years after the Germantown Mennonites started the Skippack
settlement, Swiss and Palatine families settled near the present town of
Strasburg in what is now Lancaster County. Here the Willow Street or "Brick"
congregation developed. Other congregations soon emerged. New groups also
formed in York, Adams, and Lebanon counties.
Within two decades after settling in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, some
enterprising Mennonites had found their way to Page County, Virginia. The
early settlements in Page, Shenandoah, and Frederick counties died out, while
the congregations in Rockingham and Augusta flourished. The scattered
congregations of the Allegheny -Conference, largely in southwestern
Pennsylvania, were founded for the most part around the time of the
Revolutionary War (1775-83) and the following years. The Mennonite churches of
the Washington County, Maryland, and Franklin County, Pennsylvania, Conference
were established for the most part a little before 1800. Although scattered
Mennonite families were in Franklin County by 1735, the main migration to the
area did not take place until the 1790s. The Ohio congregations of Mennonites
began to spring up in the early years of the 1800s, and the Amish followed the
Mennonites into Ohio as early as 1808. The Amish settled in Illinois in the
1830s and the Mennonites in the 1840s. Mennonites began to locate in Indiana
in 1838, and the Amish followed,in 1841. Mennonites reached Missouri in the
1850s, Kansas in the 1870s, and Oregon in the 1890s .

Had a great trip to PA, MD and vicinity. Checked for Klemmer deeds in
Haegerstown,
were told that those records are in Frederick, MD. Allegany Co. records in
Cumberland,
MD. Our search in Frederick turned up no Klemmer, Clemmer, Clymer or Climers
for
the period of 1750-60. There were, however, deeds for Klines; Peter Kline,
and Jacob
E. as early as 3/1754 (bk E/373). Other Klines 1769-72 were John and Jacob
Jr.
As for Bockles : none found

We didn't go thru Cumberland, MD this time. Sorry that we didn't find
anything
new . The church in Littlestown is going strong and the cemetery is very well
maintained.
Also, glad to see the highway marker denoting its importance to the area's
history.
